    - "macro cannot be found or has been disabled ..." A user has had HP Scanjet 8250 installed on their XP box that has caused their MSWord2003 to display the following error when MSWord is launched and when saving a newly created file (NOT opening a file): "The macro cannot be found of has been disabled because of your Macro security settings." The user's macro settings were ALREADY as "Medium," and Outlook was closed the entire time of these attempts (so Outlook's use of Word as its email editor was not a factor). Some documentation states to delete all *.tmp files in order to "free" the Normal.dot file. But before I do invasive surgery, I'd like to see if there is something that I'm missing. Did the HP Scanjet 8250 installation cause this? Is it not compatible with Word (Scanjet must cooperate with Word in order to provide the option to scan directly into Word)? Thanks for any help.     - Normal.dot problem I'm opening a word document via an Access 2000 Application. When I try to close the word file I receive a message telling I want to save the file with another name. I say 'NO', I receive another message telling me that "the file is currently in use by another application or user (c:\Document and Settings\...\Normal.dot". And when I press on the OK button it displays the Save As screen inviting me to save the Normal.dot file.... The problem is, before closing the word file, I'm invited to answer to 4 or 5 questions.!     - Smart-Paste Avoids Freezing, Stealth Uglification Regular paste (ctrl-V) isn't an option in the following situations: 1. Copy from a webpage to MS Word; 2. Copy from MS Word to Outlook Express plaintext message composition window. In the case of #1, your computer is liable to freeze for a prolonged period of time as MS does something clever to convert formats. As for #2, that paste operation arouses OE bugs that have been known for years. The plaintext composition window, despite being "plaintext," invisibly retains unwanted formatting that results in messages being severely uglified -- but only at the instant of SEND, when it's too late to stop it. Before discovering THE BETTER WAY, my fingers had become quite agile in making rapid detours to the format-free oasis of Notepad for the purpose of delousing text. To paste from Word to OE, for example, I would: - copy to clipboard (in Word) - switch to Notepad - paste - select all - copy to clipboard - switch to OE - paste But now, a utility recommended to me on the microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress newsgroup has changed this routine to: - copy to clipboard (in Word) - switch to OE - smart-paste I'm still trying to get used to it. To top it off, smart-paste gives you a nice confirmation sound effect. The utility is PureText, available for free at http://www.stevemiller.net/puretext/ . The smart-paste keystroke is Windows-V by default. "Smart-paste" is my word, not stevemiller's. In a simpler world, formatted text would be smart and 1960's-style ASCII text would be dumb. But with buggy software, less is more, and smart becomes dumber. I have only a tiny quibble which is really just academic since it makes no practical difference to me. It'd be a bit smarter if the smart-paste operation left the clipboard unchanged, rather than stripping its contents of formatting. P.S.     - Office XP Word will not close When we try to close Office XP SBE Word w/SP3, the file does close but the application will not close. We receive a fatal error report. We have to open task manager and end the Winword Process in order for Word to close. We have tried a repair and a uninstall/install.     - Word Global Template disabled on Exit Hi, I have MS Word 2003 which we installed a GoldMine/Word Link Addin (Goldmine is a CRM application. The link allows goldmine to launch word templates.) However, it is always disabled. Whenever I go into Tools-->Templates & Add-ins, I see that the GMLink.dot is there, but the check mark is not checked. If I check it then the link works fine. If I exit Word. Next time I come back in it is unchecked again. I have never seen this symptom before, we have 40 other computers which works absolutely fine. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and I played with the Normal.dot file. I removed it and renamed it and did everything, but it seems like that the setting of Word is not being saved when exit. Other Details: There is also another add-in along in that list. It is the Adobe PDF Maker. The PDF Maker add-in is always enabled, when I disable it, it comes back on restart of Word. I tried removing the PDFMaker.dot, still the Goldmine.dot would not stay enabled. The MSWord is the Dutch version, running in Windows XP (also in Dutch.) Can anybody please help? Whenever there is a problem with mailmerge (eg: some mergefields are missing) the word session hangs. It pop-ups some dialogs, like "Record and header delimiter" or "invalid merge field". I am aware that I can save the responses of the survey in a comma delimited text file so that the data can be easily exported to a statistical package such as SPSS. Here's the problem. A warning about formatting pops up, which the literature has said to ignore and click yes.     - Word is loosing my work. I'm using Word 2003 (11.6113.5703), and I keep loosing my work. I *think* it has to do with recovered files, but am not sure. About 5% of the time, when I load a word file with my work on it, it finds a recovered version of the same file. I don't know why, as I had saved, and shut down without a problem. This never happended on previous versions of Word for me. Most times, it starts up with a number (half dozen) of recovered files. Often I can't find a difference between the recovered and the file I opened. Then I say, "get rid of the recovered ones, I'm fine." Then I open the file later, and I've lost a day's work. It could be that I didn't check it out better. But why are saved files not getting saved? I've lost about five days work in the last few months.     - Word 97 on XP. Virus? Being Thick? ;) Hi, I recently bought a new computer with Windows XP. I have updated to Service Pack 2. I have the firewall up and running, and a fully uptodate norton antivirus. My old machine was running Windows 95 (yes laugh :P) I installed windows 97 on the new machine and transferred all my word files from the old computer to the new one. I am currently having a few problems: 1)When i open up a document from Start->MyRecentDocuments it will open word (almost always) and the document, and then after a few seconds will say the file is already being used by me, do i want to make a copy? This also happens if i open up my documents under Start, locate the file and double click on it. It DOESNT happen if i open up Word, and use File, Open to open the file. 2)Documents with headers and footers that previewed AND printed correctly now only preview correctly but DONT print out right. The headers and footers are too high. AFAIK, the page settings are the same. Notes: There is only one user. The computer is new and so are the problems. I really really REALLY dont want to have to do a recovery if i dont have to. The word is installed from my Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition CD. Thanks so much for all and any help. available.

This message appears with new created docuements as well
as existing where a excel table was inserted in the past.

All this happened after reinstalling XP pro and after that
Office XP (2002).

Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton AntiVirus. See
