    - problem opening up Word when double clicking on files to open I am using Office 2000, with Win 2000 Pro O/S. I typically open files by double clicking on them in Win Explorer or on the desktop. I am now having a problem opening docs in Word, let me explain: When I double click to open a file created in Word, I get a grey dialog box with the "X" in the red circle. The message in the box says "Cannot find the file [filename] (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." If I open Word and then open the file from within Word, no problem. I can still open other files by the double click method, eg, Excel, PDF, MP3, WAV, etc. If Word is already open, however, and I double click to open a new file, I do not get this error, and it successfully opens the new file. Also, if I click on a Word doc e-mail attachment icon in Outlook, I get a dialog box with exclamation mark in yellow triangle that says "The system cannot find the file specified." This seems like a Win Explorer issue, although it only happens with Word files.     - Disable dialog?? Within my organization it is necessary that normal.dot is designated as read-only. We have an add-in template that is configured to load when Word starts. With this add-in template installed, Word presents the users with the following message when they try to exit: "Word cannot save changes to the global template because it was opened with read-only access."     - word document freezes/orange flashing bar/xp pro Sometimes, not always, when I open a word document in XP Professional, the document opens and immediately freezes for what could be 30 seconds.     - Unable to open Word My system had been working fine then I suddenly found I couldn't open Word. When I try to the blue Microsoft Word box appears then the system just 'hangs' and doesn't go any further. I have done a virus scan, scan disk and disc defrag to no avail.     - Application recovery CD requests WORD2002 CD. Sony Notebooks was supplied with OS, Application and Drivery recovery CDs. When Word2002 failed to run after installation of XP service packs 1 & 2, I tried to reinstall the Word2002; the application recovery CD would work OK till choosing the application to be recovered, but would eject the CD asking for WORD 2002 CD to be inserted. When Synaptic Enhancement program maimed the computer totally I recovered the original OS with the CD and still the problem with Word2002 persists.     - for Beth re: reply to "file".doc not available I am running Norton AV Corporate Version. As Beth suggested, I go to Options and turn off "Enable Office Plug-Ins". I don't seem to have the "options" button in the menu bar; could this be because I'm using the corporate version? I looked in the help files for "options" and found nothing.     - Paragraph style error - Level B refers to more than one style I have modified some Heading styles in my document and then I get the error message: Level B refers to more than one style The application will not let me set a paragraph to that style of modify the style. I can get the same effect however by chosing the next lower style and then using the left arrow on the menu bar to raise it up one level. What can I do to get rid of the error message?     - Typing In Word Hangs I have a problem similar to an earlier posting. When I open MS Word, I type one or two characters and then Word hangs up. After a minute or so, Word will allow me to type another couple of characters and then hangs again. The problem goes away when I open MS Word in safe mode (Start, Run, type in "winword /a", Press "Enter"). The computer I'm using has AMD's Athalon XP 1900+ processor, 1GB DDR SDRAM, Windows 2000 (SP4 and all patches), and Office XP Pro (2002 w/SP2 and all patches). Possibly related is Outlook. When I open Outlook, it also opens MS Word. If I originate e-mail, what I type in the first e-mail is displayed in the MS Word Window. After sending it, second and subsequent e-mails originated during that session are displayed in a regular message window. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix the Word problem?     - Word documents disapear with a save error... When saving a document located on the server from one of=20 the clients an error message pops up telling the user that=20 there is something wrong with the disk where he or she is=20 trying to save the document. At the same time the network=20 connection is getting the red X on it as if it wasnt=20 accesible, which it is, when accesing it from explorer.=20 Thats when the real problem reveals itself, the document=20 you were trying to save is now gone. Its not on the server=20 or anywhere to be found on the local machine.=20 The event log shows nothing that can help me with this=20 problem, both server and client log is checked for the=20 specific time when it occours. The disk on the server=20 looks fine. Other shares on the same disk doesnt seem to=20 be affected.=20 This problem has occured 7 - 8 times in a couple of weeks=20 and my custommers are not to happy with it.=20 They are running a SBS2000 server, Windows 2000=20 professional desktops and Office2000.=20 Uppdated antivirus software is running on all the=20 computers in the network.=20 Hope that someone out there has seen or experinced this=20 and can give me some tips on how to fix it.=20 Thanks in advance. Using Word 97? If you then this issue was corrected in the SR-2 patch.

Here is some info on how to obtain the updates (note you need to
install SR-1 before you can install SR-2)
