    - Word XP Spanish problems I have a user running Word 2000, who receives word documents by email froma colleague in Spain. When my user opens these docs (either direct from the email or after saving the attachment first) word closes. Word just closes with no error or warning at all (either as soon as she tries to open the document or after a few moments). I suppose I caused my own problem. Yesterday, I deleted Norton Anti-Virus 2003 because I kept getting some error message which told me that the CCL or something like that had failed and that it was from Symantec. Since Norton Anti-Virus was the only program I had from Symantec, I figured it was the source of the problem.     - Hex edit word document's password I recently lost a password to a MSword document i had saved and while trying to figure out a way to recover the password i came across these instructions on numerous websites: 1.) Open a protected document in MS Word 2.) Save as "Web Page (*.htm; *.html)", close Word 3.) Open html-document in any Text-Editor 4.) Search "<w:UnprotectPassword>" tag, the line reads something like that: <w:UnprotectPassword>ABCDEF01</w:UnprotectPassword> 5.) Keep the "password" in mind 6.) Open original document (.doc) with any hex-editor 7.) Search for hex-values of the password (reverse order!) 8.) Overwrite all 4 double-bytes with 0x00, Save, Close 9.) Open document with MS Word, Select "Tools / Unprotect Document" (password is blank) Apperently this is a loophole someone discovered that allows anybody to gain access to a protected word or excel document. But why the hell would you be hacking into a protected document to change the password if you can already open it to begin with?? This is so stupid.     - word 2003 slow start, or no start on fresh i I had a recent system failure so decided to take the opportunity to get a new hard drive and a fresh start. After loading Office 2003 everything was fine until I tried Word. An error message stated that Word failed to start last time, and then starts me in safe mode. After I close it, the next time I start Word it starts right away, but any subsequent start takes about 4 minutes to start. I've renamed Normal.dot to normal.old and it will start right away the next run, but after that it goes back to the safe mode start, or the 4 minute delay start. From what I can tell there haven't been any new macros, although I did install winfax, but I don't think it ran any macros, at least I can't find any.     - Why are menus flat and gray in Office 2003? When I first installed Office 2003, all the tool bars and buttons shared the look and feel (appearence) of the XP Pro settings in Windows.     - word 2007 B2 TR - stops working Everytime I start word as a standalone it pops up a message that it has stopped working and offers to check for a solution. It never finds one. I did not see this until I updated to the TR. I am running on Vista 5728. The machine is part of a domain. Intersesting is though that it seems to work fine when using Outlook to create a message. Excel stops with the same error but only once in a while. I have done everything from a reinstall to actually wiping out the whole machine and starting from scratch. The result is the same. I have another machine, which is fine with the same version of Windows. It is not connected to a domain or using an exchange server. Any thoughts?     - Disappearing footers I'm using Word 2000, working in conjunction with a separate platform -- HotDocs 2005 Professional. Hot Docs, if you're not familiar with it, creates basically a merge file using IF fields, etc. The user can create their own specific templates based on individual needs. The templates are filled by user input within HotDocs and then exported to the word processor. The template I've created has several (14) section breaks in it -- either next pages (most) or continuous (minimal -- maybe 2 of them). I've also used footers in my template for page numbers. None are linked to "same as previous." In the template the footers seem to be formatted fine -- everything seems to work. However, when the document is merged and exported to Word 2000, the footers work in the first two sections and then stop all together -- they don't appear in the merged/imported document. I've checked the page setup both within the template and within the merged document. The bottom margins and footer margins are within the printed area. I can't see a code in page setup or in the footer menu that would cause the footer to stop. What am I doing incorrectly, please. Thank you. The content that was shipped in Beta2 can no longer be opened by the Beta2TR build. Since the building blocks.dotx file is a user file, it is not updated or replaced during the upgrade to Beta2TR. The Building Blocks.dotx file stores the items that appear when you drop down a gallery such as cover pages, watermarks, quick tables, etc. Here is some information on this problem and the workaround. This information is from the Readme/FAQ for Office 2007. http://officebeta.iponet.net/en-us/products/FX101517941033.aspx There is a workaround: 1.. Close Word. 2.. Go to your user building blocks directory (\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks on Windows XP, \users\<user name>\app data\roaming\\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks). 3.. Go into any subdirectories and delete your Building Blocks.dotx file. 4.. Reboot Word will regenerate the file for you.     - Cannot open any Word 2003 documents I have a fairly new computer: HP Pavilion Slimline s7520n PC. Recently I haven't been able to open up any documents what-so-ever. Neither can I open up Word in general. Only way it opens is in safe-mode. I haven't installed anything recently nor any drivers so I don't know what to do.     - Track Changes Not Printing For some reason, my Word documents with tracked changes (redline & strickout) will not print showing the redline & strikeout tracked changes (i.e. redline should be in red and double underlined).     - How do I stop the cursor from jumping back into sentences? When using Office Word (XP 2003) to create a document and/or email, the cursor will jump back up into already completed sentences, causing letters to be entered. If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it. See

Thank you for the response. Disabling the Office plug-in in Norton Antivirus
makes me vulnerable to malicious virus/worm/macro attacks. Is there any other
way? Seems easier to uninstall the TR

As long as you leave Norton AutoProtect enabled, you are
protected from most viruses and worms and macros. The only thing
the Norton Office Plugin does that Norton AutoProtect doesn't is
check password-protected Office documents for macro viruses.

The Technical Refresh cannot be uninstalled separately. If you
want to remove TR, you must completely uninstall Office 2007 and
then reinstall Beta 2.
