    - Word 2007 file format reverts back to docx After I change the default file format to doc 97/2003 it reverts back to docx after about a couple of hours.     - IntelliPoint 6.20.182.0 causes major display problems in XP I have discovered a MAJOR bug in Microsoft Intellipoint. The application (I'm using version 6.20.182.0, which is the latest), causes severe display problems of menus and windows, with windows and menus failing to paint (display) properly, in a variety of applications under Windows XP SP2 as well as XP SP3 (Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3). Also, the severity of the problems vary from application to application; among the worst affected are Adobe Soundbooth CS3, Adobe After Effects CS3, and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. There are other side effects as well, such as various Windows OS windows, as well as icons such as user desktop icons, being repainted (redrawn or refreshed) seemingly at random and when entirely unnecessary. When I first encountered these problems, I thought surely it was a graphics driver compatibility issue with XP SP3, and that was after many hours of trying to track the issue down. Well, boys and girls, it turns out the problem is Microsoft's own Intellipoint. Killing the ipoint.exe application under Windows Tasks resolves all the display issues mentioned. I realize that this is not the right place to post this issue, but Microsoft is apparently too busy keeping busy to provide the average citizen an easy means of reporting any bug, let alone a serious one, that affects its software, and potentially millions of users! Maybe the Microsoft person who receives this will be kind enough to pass it along to the Windows OS developers and their Intellipoint developers so that they can fix this ASAP!     - Can't re-save existing document Using MS Office 2007. I open and work on an existing document. I save (via icon) and sometimes get something along the lines of "save error, write protected or disk is full -- want to try again". I say yes and most of the time it saves it OK after a save window comes up and the same file name is used. Sometimes, though, it'll tell me it's 'read-only'. It never is, as verified via the Properties window. I'll save it under a new name, erase the old, rename my new one and continue on. There doesn't APPEAR to be rhyme or reason. It's happend with both 97-2003 compatibilty files and docx files. Anyone else have this problem?     - Excel/Word Interaction results in corrupted workbook This is a cross post (office and Excel) So ... here's a strange (and VERY devastating) event. OS: Win XP-SP3 Build 2600 Office 2007 SP1 System: Dell XPS-630i, 4GM RAM, 3.2GHZ Intel Core 2 Dual Core I have a complex spreadsheet with about 12 sheets, and a ton of complicated equations. I have used this spreadsheet for 3 years, no problems. Recently upgraded (Automatic Updates) to XP-SP3 and Office 2007 SP-1 I have performed the following sequence of events numerous times in the past with no problems: 1. I open the spreadsheet and update some data. 2. I highlight a small block of cells (say, 7 columns, 15 rows) and hit CTRL-C to copy to the clipboard. 3. Leaving Excel running, I open a blank Word document and CTRL-V (Paste) the data. 4. I return to the spreadsheet and save it to disk, 5. I return to the Word document, save it, close Word. 6. I open the Excel spreadsheet and ... 90% of the cells in ALL the sheets are wiped out, displaying 1-JUN-00! This includes cells which previously held only data, no equations. Note that the data in Excel was OK when I closed Excel. When it is reopened, the data is destroyed. I can create this scenario repeatedly. I can even select a different block of data to copy and paste - it doesn't matter, the spreadsheet gets destroyed. I can also prevent it from happening, by closing the spreadsheet BEFORE pasting the block into Word. This is my workaround, but I am intrigued by this problem â?¦ and concerned. To perhaps narrow down the cause here are the results of some tests I conducted: Test 1: another computer, same software â?? no problem Test 2: Copy/paste to Notepad, Textpad , Outlook, new Excel workbook, Powerpoint, Publisher - no problem. Copy/paste to Word â?? PROBLEM Test 3: 15 iterations, fresh copy each time. Using same workbook, copy different sections from different sheets in the workbook to Word â?? PROBLEM in every instance. Doesnâ??t matter what you copy â?? text, data, calculations, etc. Test 4. Copy something, open Word but DO NOT PASTE. Close Excel (No save). Close Word. Open Workbook - PROBLEM Test 5: open workbook, copy something, open Word, close workbook (save), open workbook - PROBLEM Test 6: open workbook, copy something, open Word, close workbook (no save), open workbook - NO PROBLEM Test 7: open Word, open workbook, copy something, paste to word, close Excel (save), close Word, open workbook - NO PROBLEM Test 8: open Word, open workbook, copy something, paste to word, close Excel (no save), close Word, open workbook - NO PROBLEM So, seems to be isolated to Word/Excel - no other Office apps or 'foreign' programs. Apparently happens only on this machine - but I REALLY hesitate to draw that conclusion! Not enough data. Also, seems that reversing the open order (Tests 7 and 8 - Word first, then Excel) eliminates the problem! Office Diagnostics come back negative.     - Word Crashes Evertime I Close It plus problem opening word files I have Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate and Word crashes evertime I close it, and then restarts Word. Office Diagnostics give me no errors. I also cannot open Word files by clicking on their icon, or by clicking on them as an attachment in Office. I have to open Word and select File -> Open which is the only way I can open any Word file. This is more recent than the above mentioned crashing error.     - Word fades to gray, freezes I'm suddenly having a problem that when I'm in the middle of working on a Word document, the screen quickly fades to gray and I cannot re-enter the document without closing word (which then gives me the message that Word is Not Responding), then starting over.     - Strange Autosave File I'm a writer and for years I've used the 12Ghosts Backup to back up my autosave *.asd files on an external hard drive. With XP and Word 97, I never had a problem. However, when I upgraded to Vista and to Word 2002 (from a new Works Suite 2006), the autosave files changed from .asd to "08 File (.08)" (that's the exact "name" found in their properties). These 08 files are correctly saved by my 12 Ghosts, but can only be opened by Wordpad. Then they show up as numbers and stuff that might not be of any use to me if I ever needed them. (Or would they? Would I be able to get back the word document from them? I don't know. ) In my Word 2002 Options -- Save Tab, I have selected (in order) "allow fast saves" / "allow background saves" / save autorecover every 1 minute / and "Save word files as Word document *.doc (and I've tried some of the other options here with no luck). I tried changing the opening program from wordpad to winword.exe, but it won't register at all (won't be recognized for opening the file). (Incidentally, I tried installing my Word 2002 as a separate program in "Program Files" but it wound up inside "Office 10". (But I don't suppose that has anything to do with it.) I've had this problem for a long time, during which I've updated my Word 2002 and reinstalled it several times without any effect. So, after this long introduction, my first question is: "What should I do to change the autorecovery files from 08 File (.08) type to either *.asd or *.doc, so I can get back to the happy place I was at with XP and Word 97?     - Word 2000 Documents Crash in Word 2003 Good Morning, In the process of exploring Word 2003, we have discovered that many of the original documents created in Word 2000 crash in Word 2003 when being saved, opened, and /or generally edited. I have opened a ticket with Microsoft and have yet to receive a resolution. The issue is repeatable on command so should be solvable. We have narrowed the issue down to a corruption in the styles of the original documents. However, using the Open and Repair feature does not solve the issue, BUT the "recovery" process of Word 2003 fixes each document but takes forever to execute. The same documents may be opened in Word 2000 with no problem. But, when opened in Word 2003, the issue occurs immediately. Would anyone be able to shed some light on this topic?     - Word 2003 closes on pressing enter When I type in Word 2003, as soon as I hit enter, Word closes. In Outlook it means I can send a mail, as long as I don't hit enter, or the mail (because of the Word-editir mode I assume) closes as well.     - Word XP (2002) only opens in safe mode Every time I start word it says it encountered an error and needs to close. This happens if I try to open word by itself or if I double click a word document. It also prompts to recover my work and restart word (even if I didn't open word by double clicking a document). If I do that it opens in safe word just fine. This computer is only a couple months old (built myself, clean install of win xp and office xp).     - Word 2003 won't open I have a user who began experiencing errors recently when he would try to open a Word document, or Word itself. There doesn't seem to be any obvious reason which caused this, such as new software installation or driver changes. The symptom are as follows: When he tries to open a document, he gets the following error: Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.     - Word 2007 "Save Files In This Format" seeting changes. We are currently testing the deployment of Office 2007 in our environment. So far things have gone shockingly well, but we have noticed an anomally that exists across all machines. The setting for "Save Files In This Format" is set during the install to be "Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)", and is also re-inforced using group policy, but it is randomly reverting back to *.docx.     - Word 2003 deletes doc file from flash drive entirely when crashing Twice now, my Word 2003, for no discernable reason, has crashed while I was working on a document file opened from a flash drive. Each time it crashed, it actually totally deleted the original file from the flash drive, and couldn't find the "recovered" file anywhere in order to open and re-save it - not even from the specified timed backup location.     - Error Saving Correct Changes in MS Word 2007 Hi there, I was wondering if there is a solution to this problem I'm having. I've been working on revising my thesis using MS Word 2007, a very large document, on Windows XP, with all service packs and MS Updates installed. I make changes to the thesis on a daily basis, and save the file onto my HDD as well as on my USB external HDD every time I make a change on the document, which is around every two to five minutes when I'm working. I get a file permission error when I try to save the changes manually (by clicking the Save icon or the Save As.. option). Regardless of whether I try to save on the HDD or the USB drive, I get a file permission error every now and then. So far, my tactic has been to wait until the program will allow me to save the changes. I try to save a few times, pause, and try again. But this in itself is frustrating. And then, last night after completing a save after a long wait, the file was incorrectly saved. This morning I found different versions of the file I was trying to save on my HDD (all with the same name, on my HDD and my USB drive), and had to sift through each document to compile them all into a new document. Is that really necessary? I've never had problems like this before. At my office PC, using Office 2003, I can save every 30 seconds to both USB drive and HDD with no problems. I think I would like to be able to manually save my documents again, without worrying whether MS Word got it right. What can I do? I've set the save preferences to save every 5 minutes, I have Norton Antivirus, and my computer is connected to a home network. When the dialog box finally appears, there is also another 60 second wait when I press OK after making any changes.     - Sentence would not wrap to next page On two seperate occassions this week, I was typing a document in Word and when I got to the last line, it didn't wrap to next page. Sometimes the curser would disappear and nothing more happened, sometimes the curser moved from the last letter on the page to about 10 lines up. I finally was able to proceed to the next page by inserting a page break after the last word on the first page(Contr-enter). Never had that happen before.     - Issue with Normal.dot Hi all, I have a user who keeps receiving the message that there were changes to the normal.dot and does she want to save the changes. To her knowledge, she does not make any changes to the document so she picks "No" most of the time but she picks "Yes" somes. However, the message keeps popping up. Usually after the message goes away, she can't open up any Word docs or save any Word documents and her computer gets more and more difficult to work with. For example, other applications will open in "Read Only" even if she has access to save the documents. A restart will solve the problem temporarliy but then the problems start up again. I have tried to replace the normal.dot but this doesn't make the issue go away. I have also deleted any temp files but still the issue continues. She is using a Windows XP operating system and is using Office 2003. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!     - Multiple embedded Linked Visio 2007 Objects Files fail to print I have Office 2007 SP1 and Visio 2007 SP1. I've created a word document that links in multiple visio diagrams in separate files. If I do a print preview, I get expected results. When I spool out to the printer however, it only gives me the final diagram in place of all 3 links. Has anyone seen this behavior?     - Word Document resembles text doc when logged in on certain profile We are using Microsoft Office 2007 & the document is saved as 97-2003 .doc file on one of our 2003 Servers. Our users log into server via Citrix on thin clients. The problem arises when 1 particular user logs in under another particular user's name & accesses the file, which comes up resembling text document with no bold characters & font resembles Notepad look. This only happens on that person's thin client. When logged as himself, the document is correct. When the logging into any other thin client as the 2nd user, the document is correct. This only affects 1 user on his thin client logging in as another user who is not in the office. The absent user can log in on his thin client & view file correctly.     - Error when Closing Word Only happens when I receive word documents from other sources. If I open and close a word document from my computer all is well. However, here is the error that occurs when closing word: Word cannot open the file ~WRS{853716B4-63AE-4EE7-9489-54198A9C3039} If the file is stored on your computer, there may be a problem with your hardware. If the file is stored on the network, there may be a poblem with the network connection. If you can copy the file, try saving the file in another location and opening it there.     - Word Freezing When Inserting Picture via File Word (and actually Publisher also) will not allow me to insert a picture via a file. It will open the 'open file' box and then freezes.
