I have Word 2002, and it crashes when I'm typing or editing a document...and
my computer display freezes...along with the computer itself. I've tried
various remedies to fix the problem, such as re-naming the normal.dot file,
detect and repair, safe mode (for word) and uninstall-reinstall. Word crashes
at various times as I use it...sometimes a few minutes after I start it up,
or maybe an hour later. It's hard to predict when it will happen. But, I have
noticed that it doesn't freeze when I'm cutting and pasting images onto a
document. It doesn't matter if I have internet connection or not, it still
freezes. If anyone has any ideas, please drop me a line. Next, I'm going to
turn off my computer services one-by-one, and see if I can diagnose the
problem that way. Would macros have anything to do with it?

Does the problem persist if you select a different default
printer in Windows? If that fixes the problem, then the problem
could be caused by a damaged printer driver for your normal
printer, and you might try deleting and reinstalling the printer
in Start | Control Panel | Printers.

Hello Garfield,
I'll try your suggestion and select a different default
printer...but actually, I've had this problem long before I even installed a
printer on my computer. I've thought that maybe it could be my video driver.

Not having a printer installed can cause problems in Word too,
because Word depends on information from the printer driver for
page layout, text wrapping/spacing, etc.

I'll give it a try, and let you know what happens.
