When I'm working in MS Word 2003, the program will suddenly abort and crash and restart, showing saved docs. The error occurs at random, and is extremely annoying. It will happen every ten minutes or so. Does anybody have a clue?

I am running Office 2003 Students and Terachers edition on a new clean Win2000 machine. The machine/OS was cleaned from an older installation. All software was removed, the disk cleaned and defragmented, the machine rebooted and then Office 2003 was installed.

The computer is connected to the Internet via hub to DSL, there is one other computer in the netwerk, but shutting that off doens't fix the problem.

The computer is running a firewall (ZoneAlarm 3.7.202) and McAffee V6.2, Shutting each of these down does not solve the problem.

I tried reinstalling MS Office several times. It doesn't fix the problem.

I tried shutting down the spell-check without results.

Does anyone have a clue?

Have you looked in the Windows Log Files to see if it gives you a clue? A
favourite to cause this is a partially corrupt printer driver.

Hi TF

Thanks for the suggestions. I've checked the logs: Three DLL's seem to generate problems

mssp3nl.dl
hppourdp.dl
mso.dl

I can imagine the first is a servicepack, the second a printerdriver (or what's left of it, I removed one HP Laserjet and installed a new one) and I'm lost about the third. Does it ring a bell to you

I'll try to get the drivers cleaned up. Perhaps you have any more suggestions...
Thanks in advance

Aren

mso.dll is an Outlook dll - a Goggle search using"mso.dll" reveals a
few results on problems with this dll - and even a "fiks" for it
(shame it's in Norwegian :)

You know it makes sense.

Hmm, just a thought - in view of mso being an Outlook dll, and you
having problems in Word, try opening Outlook and going to your
settings and turning off the Journal recording of Word activities.

You know it makes sense.

mssp3nl.dll is the Dutch spelling checker, I believe.

This may be a problem with the Proofing Tools. Try turning off the Spelling
and Grammar while you type options and test again for stability. Also, try
deleting and reinstalling the printer driver (see if there is a newer one at
the support site first). One of those looks favourite.

Hi Everyone

Due to a busy schedule will not be able to test and try anymore for a couple of days, but I'm confident we've come a long way. Both printerdrivers and spellcheck sound like valid causes for the problems. I'll clean up the printerdrivers and reset the spellchecks and see if it takes me there

Thanks for your help, all of you
