 - "check the file permissions for the document or drives" I have 5 workstations running Office 2003. On one computer, any documents created there cannot be emailed to another workstation without getting the above error message when the receiver opens the document. The document opens up fine on the originating computer. What is causing this error? How do I fix this? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word 2003, but nothing changed.  - Word 2002 not responding I have a very similar case to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292174, except: 1. I'm using a non-standard style of paragraph numbering, not non-standard line numbering. 2. There is no error message -- it only stops responding, hourglass, 94-100% of CPU usage by WinWord.exe. 3. I already have SP3 of Office XP installed (Word 10.6612.6714). It happens randomly, not when Word opens, and not after X minutes. Spelling check, grammar and speech recognition are all off. It is somewhat document related, in that I've only seen it with documents that use paragraph numbering and cross-references. However, Open/Repair does not fix it, and it occurs with relatively small documents with few cross references. Running Windows XP Pro for Tablet, on Toshiba M200 with 512 MB. It can occur with only Word running and lots of RAM. No other PC or logon is running that could have access to the document. No other application is running, necessarily, when the hang up occurs. The document is in a folder and is not an attached file to some msg. It usually recurs within about 45 minutes, but it can go hours or even a day of editing before it recurs. I'm reduced to making AutoSave occur every 2 minutes, and that way I don't lose much. Nothing I've seen on this board, on word.mvps.org, or I could find on Google has helped. Thanks in advance.  - Problems Opening a Word Link in IE6 Hi, I am using IE 6.0 and Office 2000. I used to be able to click on a link for a Word document and it opened automatically. Now it appears with a cross as if it is an image that isn't there. Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix this as it is quite annoying that I must right click on the link and physically save it.  - Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error. Wan. My word program suddenly began giving the message as shown above whenever I attempt to save to a Network drive. There is nothing wrong with my Network permissions. I can save to the Network drives with any and every other program on my PC. It is only with Word that this problem ocurrs. I have noticed that it is trying to convert the file into a *.tmp (~WRL0005.tmp.rtf) file. What would cause this and how do I fix it? Right now I have to resave the document with another name when I edit and save. This does not happen if I save to my hard drive. During building of document Word crashed,ever since when I try to make a hperlink in the Right pane, after typing in target file name and selecting the Insert Hyperlink window closes, and when I try to test the link it won't open.  - Slow to print envelopes When ever i try to print an envelope with word 97 it takes forever. Other machines have no troubles, in task manager csrss.exe and spoolsv.exe are using 100% of my processor. its a 2.8ghz, 512mb ram, windows xp pro.  - Word Start Up Error I have had a continuing problem with starting Word 2002 on my XP system - causes the error "Word has encountered a problem and needs to close". It gets hung up and I have to kill it with Task Manager. The only way I can run it is from Office Tools opening up the Word Support Template (uses support.dot vs. normal.dot) - then it won't crash. I have had techs re-install all Office software on this PC and still have the same problem. I have tried the suggestiions on word.mvps.org site "problems opening Word" application error page but still have crashes on word startup. I keep getting errors when working in MSWORD which will close my document and save it to a WORD folder with a saved name such as ~WRA0950 .  - Cannot maximise word solution (possibly) Hi all, I was having a very strange error which I noticed has come up a few times without solution in this group. Word 2003 can't be maximised to fill the whole screen. Instead, after clicking on the maximise button it leaves this a one/two inch gap at the top of the page. Another thing is that the error only occured (for me) when outlook was open otherwise Word behaved itself. Well today I decided to check microsoft's site for office 2003 updates. The site did a check on my PC and decided that I need to install Office Service pack 1. Which I did as well as a word security patch and another office update. Anyway, it got rid of the maximise issue (for me anyway)!  - Word 2000 saving over network When a couple of my users save a Word 2000 document to a network drive and then later reopen the doc, it causes weird characters to appear on some of the docs pages at radom.  - locked project2 Word 2002, Win XP SP-2 Every time I start Word and start to type, the Project Locked dialog box opens with the message "Project is unviewable". I've checked the security options. There are no digital signatures listed. I only use one add-in: TaskPane Controller.dot - which I have been using for over a year with no problems. When I open word in the safe mode, the dialog box does not appear. I don't know if it's related to this problem, but I have recently created macros in Excel with Visual Basic.  - Word 97 Hanging up All of a sudden, Word 97 (on Windows XP) has started hanging up.  - Can't copy between 2 Word Applications I have MS Word v4 (for DOS) and MS Word 97 both installed on my computer. I can't use the "copy to clipboard command" on v4, to paste into Word 97. The clipboard only works within v4. Also, when I open documents (filename.doc) created in v4 into 97, it comes up as boxes and gobbledegook. I used to use both these programs with Windows 98 and had no problem whatsoever. I have even tried the compatibility option (run as Win98) for both, but that doesn't help. Look, I know it's weird to be using such an old version of Word, but my husband likes it. I just don't understand why the 2 versions don't talk to each other on XP the way they did on 98.  - excel 97 stopped working My Excel 97 stopped working several months ago. It is part of Office 97 Small Business edition. I have uninstalled Excel and then re-installed it. That did not help. I tried to uninstall the entire Office suite (so that I could re-install it) but that did not work. Got an error message regarding a "set up initialization error" which stopped the unonstall process. All of my Excel files are intact and I can read them. But I cannot creat new files or modify old ones. Word is working fine. Can anyone help me out with this. Thanks. John F.  - Continued Version Errors After discovering that "versions" within Word documents can lead to document corruption, I'm attempting to delete the versions and save each version individually. I am having difficulty opening some of the versions and get Word errors when I do open them. An Autosave is done and the version is recovered.  - Why does AOL launch when I try to customize a bulleted list? When I try to use a picture bullet in Word, as soon as I click on the Picture button, my word freezes and my AOL sign on screen launches. I am unable to close the Word document once this happens.  - Word exits suddenly Hello everyone I have a document which is giving me a problem I haven't seen before. When I try to make changes to the document, Word exits suddenly.  - Word doesn't merge Excel spreadsheets onto envelopes. I created a database of addresses in an Excel spreadsheet. When I went to Word to create a "merge" file, I wanted to print those addresses onto envelopes. The "merge" wizard said it didn't recognize any database in Excel even after I clicked on the database when prompted.  - Offic 2000 Premium requires disk to run I need to laod the Office 2000 CD everytime I open an application like Word or Excel.  - Automating Deleting of Specific Entries There are these certain entries, date/time stamp entries to be axact, on some documents that I use that I would LOVE to be able to automatically remove them all with some cool macro or something but I'm not too good with these things. Here is a sample of the text: "[4/9/2005 2:30:33 PM] <ht> On 3/29 MG775 fell below sma200.. and stayed there for the last week.. waiting for another shoe to drop. [4/9/2005 2:31:55 PM] <ht> Thursday AH USFC lowered Guidance .. a lot. They cited 3 reasons for the shortfall. [4/9/2005 2:32:17 PM] <ht> Top was slower Auto Sector business." What I would love to be able to remove automatically from these entries are these parts "[4/9/2005 2:30:33 PM] <ht>", "[4/9/2005 2:31:55 PM] <ht>", "[4/9/2005 2:32:17 PM] <ht>" A solution to this problem would be very gratefully appreciated, would make my life all the easier.  - Pointer disappears when moving to right off of document - Update Using Win 98 and Office 97. Using Word in page layout format. If I move the pointer to the right, off of the document, it disappears and doesnâ??t appear again until I reach the border with the arrows where I can move up and down on the document. Extremely frustrating. Works fine to the left of the document - the pointer does not disappear. Would appreciate any help. I tried both ideas posted and they didn't help.  - Windows configures Word every time After reinstalling Windows XP and reinstalling Office 200, I get this message every time I start Word: "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business".  - Word Crashes 2 days ago I was setting up to record minutes in a meeting. I started my laptop, runs Office XP Professional, I opened a document I had been working on earlier in the day on a desktop computer, also running Office XP Professional. Within 2 minutes I received an error message and Word crashed. There is no network connection in the meeting room. I tried to restart but it still failed. The message said Word had encountered an error and was shutting down. It would then restart with the unsaved document for me to save. If I saved the document, it crashed and I got the same message, if I didn't save - it crashed - same message. I restarted but same thing happened. Went home and uninstalled Office XP after running many diagnostics including Word repair and Norton Systemworks. Re-installed Office XP - tried to use Word - no problem - for 24 hours then crashed again. I have used the laptop numerous times over the last year to take minutes in a various locations and no problem. Now I seem to lose the ability to work in Word for no reason. Sometimes when I first start the computer, I shut down every day, Word will crash. Sometimes I am able to work for an hour before it crashes. I have started to notice that I do not have network connection at the time of the crashes but I have never required it in the past. None of the meetings I attend have network. Any Solutions?? In word we can no longer adjust the margins within the documents or the top
bottom. It defaults to .7 for side and .8 for top! Do not know how to
change. Opening a new document and only allows the same frozen margins.
Message come up saying something about increasing right margin causes last
column to be too narrow...
i do not have columns even selected! I just want my normal margins back!!!

Close all Office Applications and then find Normal.dot and rename it
Normal.Bad. You will lose all your customisations, but anything important
stored in normal.dot - such as Autotext or Macros - can be copied back with
the Organiser.
