Hi all,

My XP word act weird recently. When I open or create a new document, then
I will do the spell check after I finish writing. The language setting will
switch to Dutch after finish the whole process of spell check. The weird
thing is even I go to Tools and set language back to English, and it will
switch back to dutch by itself. When It swicth to Dutch, then the spell
check wont' work on my writing in English. For example, If I type some words
in wrong spelling, the spell check will not detect that at all. This bother
me for long time, Can anyone has any suggestions? I tried to update all
latest patch from Microsoft office page, but it still wont' fixed the
problem. Thank you very much.

Sara

Jay,

I also tried that. Whenever I set the English as a default language, after
I found a wrong spelling of my document, it will turn into Dutch again. Do u
have any ideal ?

Hi Sara,

Just to make sure we're talking about the same things:

- Did you check that your Language and Keyboard settings in the
Control Panel + Regional dialog and the Control Panel + Keyboard
dialog are set to English?

- If you're checking an existing document (not a new one), have you
selected all the text in the document and set its language to English
in Tools>Language>Select Language? Changing the default as described
in the article affects only the normal.dot template and new documents
that you create after the change, not any existing documents from
before the change.

Also make sure that you have language autodetection disabled.
