Visual Basic environment could not be initialized - error - Word 2

I am getting a message when I open Word 2007 (recently installed on my new
laptop) "Visual Basic environment could not be initialized." I realize that I
may need to rename normal.dot template, but I cannot find it anywhere. I also
had no luck with renaming the Vbe6.dll file. Help!

I am also running Windows Vista. I'd be grateful for any recommendations.

To find Normal.dot (dotx for 2007), Windows Explorer, search for the file, be
aware the .dot is a hidden file type so turning the setting on in the Folders
Options will help. Dont delete Normal.dot, rename it OLD. Just in case this
is not the problem, also you can extract any styles/macro you have stored
there, once the new .dot is created by Word
These instructions are for XP, not Vista, but I hope they point you in the
right direction.

Thanks for your reply. I have looked repeatedly, going through folders,
showing hidden files, and by using Search, and I simply cannot find the
Normal.dot file. I can find other templates in Program Files/Microsoft
OFfice/Templates/1033, but nothing called "normal". Nor in username/AppData

In case this makes a difference, in the Startup folder for office seems empty.

Could the Normal.dotx just not be on my computer somehow?

Is this the only solution to the error message (see subject line) that I
keep receiving?

It could be you have an add-in attempting to run that uses VBA. If you don't
have VBA installed then that might explain the message you are encountering.
