    - Sometimes Word will not launch from icon in third party software I work for a company which writes document assembly software which merges in Word by way of a macro and DDE. Often we find that the merge is no longer functioning and generally we can discover and repair the problem. However, one particular test tells us that we are not going to solve the problem in the usual way. If we press on the link to Word from within our software and Word does not launch - we know there is nothing we can do. The only solution appears to be to uninstall Word, delete its directories and then reinstall Word.     - Word XP Asks to Repair Documents When Saved Intermittently, when saving in Word, I get a dialog box that asks, "This file contains repairs made to it by Word. Saving the file will make these repairs permanent. It is recommended that you view the repairs before saving the file." The choices are Show Repairs, Save, and Cancel. If I hit show repairs, it gives me a list of 30 or so, with the heading "Errors were detected in this file, but Microsoft Word was able to open the file by making the repairs listed below. Save the file to make the repairs permanent." Selecting any one of the errors and hitting "Go To" gets me a flashing cursor at the same spot in the document (before the first line of text).     - Word 2002 crashes when writing a letter I have been searching to an answer for this, but can't find one, and hope someone here can help. When I'm typing a letter in Word, it crashes and gives me the pop-up window to send report to Microsoft. It happens the same way everytime.     - preparing to install error I am running Windows 2000 professional. For the last month, whenever I start Word I get the following message "preparing to install." I click cancel and then after another error message that reads Windows 9.0, which I also cancel, the program will open. It seems to function properly thereafter.     - unusual termination errors - word automatically shuts down Hello, I am running Word 2002 on a Windows XP professional system. It came installed on my computer and from the very first day I started using it it has had a problem where it will periodically pop up an error message saying that word has preformed an error and will close (dumping all unsaved info of course). Sometimes it brings up the 'submit this error to Microsoft' box, sometimes it doesn't. Another error also occurs often times when closing a file which says 'unusual termination error, program will close' or something close to it, and shuts every thing down. When it comes back up from these errors it says that the Normal.dot file has been changed, do I want to load the new copy? THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. I have been trying to fix the problem for over a year now. And the program still crashes at least twice a day, usually more. I have been back and forth with the Gateway people (who I bought my computer with) and they have had me do everything from unloading and reloading Word, buying and installing a whole different version of word, erasing the Normal.dot file and everything else. Nothing has helped. Word is also not deleting any temp files it creates and I don't know if this is part of the problem or not. If any one can help me, I would be forever grateful!     - Works- Word 2002 drop down folder list on Open, Save As dialog On a PC with windows XP Home and MS Works - in Word 2002 I am having a problem with the "look in" and 'save as' control that is supposed to drop down the folder list - all other icons on the 'look in' 'save as' bar light up when the cursor is placed over them but the drop down does not respond - if selected get a 'not responding' message. I suspect the control has been overwritten by a non functioning version - do you know the identity of this control and how it can be replaced.     - Equation Editor add-in view problem Just a few months ago, my Equation editor started acting up. I use it all the time (I teach math), so I know it was working fine when it was first installed. In fact, it worked great for years. And then... Now everything looks all screwed up. Fractions won't line up. Digits get cut off in the frame.     - File permission error while saving to network A user is getting a file permission error when saving some word docs to network drives. The docs are from a template, but he is the only user with the error. I checked permission on the folder he is saving to and he has permission to wrtie, read and modify in that folder. He is able to open a doc in the folder and edit, but when saving it says the file permission error. if he continues it converts the original file to a 1kb file which contains nothing and closes word. The autosave file is also gone at this point. If he says no to save, he can save to his local hard drive, then move it to the folder he tried the save to without any problem. It is almost as if he has full control in the folder, but the docs he only has read access to.     - nothing is working with Word I've spent the last several days reading through previous posts and trying everything that has been suggested-all to no avail. I've located and renamed Normal.dot; I've tried all the suggestions on the mvps link that has been posted. The only route I haven't tried is uninstalling the Works Add-In. When I go to Add/Remove and click to remove, it seems to try, then I get two error messages: the first says "setup is unable to register tasks" and after clicking "okay" (my only option), the second message says "fatal error during installation." I've tried uninstalling with the CD rather than through Add/Remove, but that doesn't work either. I've also tried to install over what's already there hoping it will put in whatever is missing. When I open word document. the system gets crashed. The
