WordBasic.CountWindows() behaves differently in Word2003 from Word
Hi ,
I have an ActiveX control which creates a word docuemnt by linking to
the specified word. This is done using OLE stuff like monikers & binding to
the object. The scaled down code looks like this,
LPMONIKER pmk;
LPBC pbc;
LPDISPATCH pppvResult = NULL;
CString docName("..\\xyz.doc");
hr = CreateBindCtx(0, &pbc);
if (SUCCEEDED(hr)) {
hr = MkParseDisplayName(pbc, T2OLE(docName), &cEaten, pMon);
pbc->Release();
}
ASSERT(pMon!= NULL);
hr = pMon->BindToObject(pbc, NULL, IID_IDispatch, pppvResult);
pbc->Release();
pmk->Release();
At BindToObject the word object is created(I see that at this point
winword.exe process appears in TaskManager process window). Also a temp file
$xyz.doc is created indicating the file is opened. At this point the window
is not active yet or visible. pppvResult is used to get the WordObject and
CountWindows using IDispatch calls GetIDsOfNames, GetProperty.
I comapred each of the calls in Word 2000 & Word 2003. Except the call
to CountWindows() everything is fine. With Word 2003 it returns 1 but with
Word 2000 it returns 0. I donot understand why is the difference. I donot get
any error message. The Invoke method call returns success. As per the
CountWindows
description in WordBasic hlp file, it gives the count of windows in the
windows menu.
Can any one you suggest a solution (other than shifting to VBA code) or a
better place where I can post this. Thank you in advance.

paste errors Word 2003--no paste completion

Copy function does work, that is the copied text shows the

This is a new problem, though in the previous week

Today, no paste at all and all WORD functions

Macros--voice-activated macros
(You may want to read this from the bottom since I wrote
to you once before about this problem)
I tried 2 different Logitech USB digital mics--the first
one was doing very well for 2 days. Then, the menus
starting dropping down again, making it impossible to
continue. I'd be happy to buy a better mic though I'd have
to order it online (we don't have much variety here on
Maui). A more sensitive mic will just pick up more
extraneous noise, though, and that won't solve the
problem, will it?
In any case, I'll try to order a digital Sony USB mic if
you think it will help (is that all the info I need to
start searching?)
You said the modem also produces noise. Do you mean random
static noise internally? Or audible noise externally? In
either case, how can I work around it? I'm using a PCS2200
cable modem.
I noticed that the Recognition Profile Setting (under
Speech Properties) on the control panel doesn't really
make a difference. That is, when I change the
Pronunciation Sensitivity from low to high or vice versa,
I notice no difference in the response to my voice
commands. Is that normal?

corrupt normal template
I started Word to edit a document. The document was a "to
do" list like this:
1. Clean blah blah
a. do blah blah
b. do blah blah blah
i. be sure blah blah
ii. then blah blah
2. Walk dog
a. down that street
and so on.....
From the beginning Word has always automatically "sensed"
what I was doing and did the formating. Now I hit the Tab
key, enter "1." and type, hit Return and the number "2."
pops up, I hit Tab and ....nothing....
What has happened????
I closed Word and renamed NORMAL and then restarted Word
but still I cannot get it to "work'. I then reopened the
document above and when I edited it, the document had
forgotten all the formating - it was there but when I went
to add more....there was no formating working for me.

Error message: Word file ... is unavailable but can open in word.
Last week I was unable to open word or excel applications (I have Office

Word freezing when broswing network share
Hi,
Setup is as follows...
Windows 2000 client
Windows 2000 server
Office 2000 on the client
I have a user who is experiencing freezing issues when she tries to
open documents off of a certain share. This started when the share
was moved from a Windows NT server to a 2000 server. Basically, user
will go to open a document and it will hang after displaying a few
folders on the share and sit there with the hour glass going. The
user has tried leaving it for 10 minutes or more with no luck.
The problem actually happens in all Office apps, but especially when
trying to attach a file in outlook, and when trying to open an excel
file while creating a mail merge in Word. I think that's a function
of what the user does most frequently rather than it being those
programs having a problem more than others specifically.
I have not heard of any problems when going in through explorer, but I
can't be 100% sure that it would never happen outside of office apps.
For now it *seems* to be an issue related to office.
This has happened to other users and on other machines as well. The
user's machine was rebuilt at some point, so it's most likely not a
corruption issue. The share she is accessing is large (the base
folder has about 350 files/folders in it. As far as I know it only
hangs when getting into that large base folder...if she gets into that
one successfully there are usually no problems. The server hosts a
number of other shares and I have not heard of any problems accessing
them. It's high traffic enough that I tend to suspect that it's not a
network issue on the server end....I think we would be having more
problems if that was the case. There are a lot of other users in the
company and all of them use the same windows and office version. To
my knowledge this is the only group experiencing this problem.
Any ideas? I found one or two articles through Google, but no
followups with helpful suggestions. Hopefully I will fare better! I
feel like I remember something about a registry setting and browsing
shares and freezing, but for the life of me I just can't think of what
it was. I feel like I've worked this same issue before but I am
coming up blank.
Thanks in advance!

Word doesn't ask to save when closing documents
Hello All,
After working on a document for many hours I try to minimize the
document and mistakenly clicked the X instead. Word did not ask me to
Save my Document (and I had not saved my document while working on
it). This may only happen 1% of the time when mistakenly closing the
document but can be extremely frustrating when losing hours worth of
work.
When I go to my recent documents to open it the only informaiton there
is what was there when I originally opened it before making all my
changes.
I had this problem in Office 2000 and just upgraded to Office 2003 a
couple of months ago and it is still occurring.
Has anyone ever heard of this or any idea why this is going on? I have
AutoRecover turned on to 10 minutes, I have just turned on the option
to Always create a backup copy in case this will help, and though I
know I should definitely save while working on my documents I would
like to solve the bigger issue of why this is happening in the first
place. It seems to me that Word thinks it has asked me if I want to
save any changes and thinks I clicked 'No'.
Thank you for any suggesstions.

Word document locked for editing
Hi there, somehow I managed to mess up a Word document. I
was adding jpeg images to the document and of a sudden,
the program stated it had performed an error and it
closed. When I went to open it again, a window popped up
saying that the document was "locked for editing" and I
could only access a 'read-only' copy. I tried to delete,
rename, add to this document to no avail. Personally I
would like to just trash the doc and start again, but I
cannot. Could someone advise as to how I can either re-
open for editing purpose, or how could I delete the
document?
Thanx Tag: Spell checker in 2003 works inconsistently Tag: 85131
The spell checker in Word 2003 works during the beginning of
documents, but not near the end. Please help.
