    - Word Opening Problems Hi, when I recieved my computer, it had Office 2002 on it. I wasn't able to open Word... it would open, and give me an error message saying it had encountered a problem, and needed to restart. It would say that everytime I tried to open it. So I got Office 2003. I installed it, and I could open Word fine. However, today I was working on a document and all of a sudden I got that error message again, and Word restarted. When it opened back up, it gave me the message again, and then closed. When I try to open Word now, it doesn't give me an error message or anything- it simply doesn't open. It'll get to the part where the little box that says its opening comes on the screen, but that's it. What do I do? Tag: Save As Tag: 67360

    - Virus - which one with word? While using Microsoft Word XP, more and more we are experiencing a problem with the text in word. When scrolling through a typed document, all of a sudden text, whether it is one paragraph, three or how many ever, it turns into squares and a bunch of jibberish. We have tried converting it back into different readable fonts, but with no success. I was told that this might be a virus from a few months ago, what virus may this be?     - Task is taking longer than expected I am using Word 2002 to write long reports that are mostly boilerplate templates. My Word documents read merge fields from an Excel file that I change for every new report that I write. However, when I fire up Word and load a document, it takes like 1 minute to come up and 50% of the times I get this message saying "This task is taking longer than expected. Do you want to continue waiting?". My questions are: 1. Why does it take so long to open up a document with links to an excel file 2. How do I avoid getting this message?     - Word displays only one page in print layout mode Microsoft Word 2002 XP When I reach the bottom of the page, usually you jump to the next page. the problem is that that doesnt happen. the text just starts disapearing and no second page is created. if i go into the normal view mode i see the entire text, but when i go back to the print layout there is only one page! even if i open a new document same problem. i have an older document that i created before i had this problem and it has more than one page, and there it will create addiotional pages if one fills up.     - Illegal operation when quitting Word 2000 I've been using Word 2000 with no problem for over a year. It now gives an illegal operation error whenever I quit the program. The operating system is windows 98. The only change I've made recently is to upgrade my Norton ant-virus software. I'm not experiencing any problems with any other Microsoft office software.     - Problems uninstalling or repairing Office XP Microsoft word is not working properly on my system and when I tryed to uninstall it and reinstall or repair it, It says that uninstall in not installed on my computer? I have had no problem uninstalling other programs just office XP. Is it because I don't have the office uninstall, installed??     - MS097.DLL Missing I recently tried to install Word 97 on my Windows XP Home system and got the following error message after install was completed: "This application has failed to start because MS097.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". This error message was associated with the files "findfast.exe" and "winword.exe" which could not be launched because the MS097.DLL file could not be found. Re-installing the application did not solve the problem. I looked on the Internet and found a post which noted that "If you load Outlook 2000 on a computer and you had Office 97, and then reload Office 97 because you need it, you get the "MS097.DLL" error message sending you in a vicious-circle trying to solve the problem". I did load Outlook 2000 and Word 97 had previously been on my computer (a transfer from a Windows 98 system). When I tried to re-install Word 97 I got the MS097.DLL error message. Another poster to a site on the Internet noted that the file "mso97.dll" is on the office 97 CD in the Office directory. He recommended copying the file to the c:\program files\microsoft office\office directory or, if that didn't work, to the c:\windows\system\directory. I could not find the file on my Word 97 CD (Microsoft Home Essentials 98). How can I resolve this problem using my Windows Home Essentials 98 CD (which includes Word 97) and/or the Internet?     - Word2000 processes not closing Hi all. At work we have Windows XP Professional with SP1 installed and Office2000 with SR1. When we edit a document and close Word without saving, we get the usual 'Do you want to save?' requester, click Yes and Word closes after saving, but the Winword.exe process is sometimes still running and must be ended with Task Manager. Later on we will often find that Word opens documents excruciatingly slowly; this behaviour appears to be caused by more than one Winword.exe process running. Normal people like you and I would decide to save before exiting as a work-around but there is one guy that just can't handle the concept, continually reproduces the situation and becomes irate at the computer rather than at his inability to invoke Task Manager (and yes, we're getting tired of showing him how) to solve the problem! I have tried searching Google and the Office Update site but found no relevant results from anyone else experiencing this problem.     - Header, footer not showing when Word starts I have templates that make use of headers and footers for name, date, etc.. Recently, however, every time Word starts, it does not show the entire page with the header and footer. The only way I can show that part is by going to [view] and [header / footer]. This selects that text and increases the range of my page view. But for documents where I don't want stuff up there, aka Normal.dot by default, Word still does not show my header / footer area.     - Word 2000/ Winword caused error in Winword.exe, will now close I diligently followed the troubleshooting directives to address my inability to open Word 2000 without crashing as outlined in KB Article # 236319, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times, all to no avail. I suspect the problem lies in the Global Template, but when I tried to rename normal.dot, I got an error message telling me I did not have access to do this (this is a home system), that the file was probably in use (the program was closed). I can open the program using the "/a switch" method, but there must be a better way. I've scanned for viruses, but nothing was reported infected.     - Word 2000 hyperlinks broken I am using Office 2000 and Windows XP: for a few weeks now, in Word, hyperlinks have not been formatting properly on screen (no, I don't klnow what happened to change it). I just see the html source code, and the link will not work as a link; so I can only access stuff by either cutting and pasting the url, or opening individual files .. This happens with documents written by me and by other people. Documents print out OK; the formatting is correct then. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2000; I have checked that I am in 'normal' view; and I have checked 'Tools/autocorrect/autoformat links etc' - all OK.     - WORD = Dangerously low on resources 98se windows. Everytime I try to load Word, it either crash's my comp or comes up with a warning "Dangerously low on Resources". But the resource meter says everthing is 68% free. I Close every running programme down, same thing happends. I have cleared all cache's, run defrag and scandisk, disk clean and virus checker.     - Word file-save-as unavailable I have just loaded Office 2003 - final, and have a weird problem - the File-Save-As option in Word is not avaialable, instead the File-Open option is displayed. But I can save my work by attaching it to an email, and then dragging it into a folder. All other progs are working, this problem is just in Word.     - Autotext crashes in Outlook Hello, I've been struggling with Word and Outlook for this problem and said to myself the Newsgroup is my last resort. I'm using Word in Outlook to write messages in html. As most of us are quite lazy, the use of Autotext makes tedious and recurrent paragraphs typed by Autotext a pleasure in sending email. The problem is (which does not occur in Office 2000), a saved Autotext when recalled in Outlook and using Word as editor, crashes Word completely when one tries to edit the generated Autotext.     - Print layout corrupted The view: print layout is corrupted. It appears on my screen as if there was no margin at all on top. This is due to fact that the header does not appear anymore because if I click on Show headers and footer the document appears normal on my screen. The problem I'm running into is this client has word templates located on a network share and when the normal.dot was deleted it recreated a new one on the network share. Here comes the fun part.... The user cannot make changes to this network normal.dot because other users must be pointed to this network casuing to lock this file. I tried repathing the file locations to point to the local machine for its templates (both user and workgroup templates) but it still points to the network for its normal.dot. Is there a trick to getting this to point to the local machine for normal.dot or maybe a registry edit. Any help would be great.     - Cannot save Customized Toolbar and Auto Text After upgrading an application on my client's workstation I had to delete the normal.dot due to corruption. After I did this it now created a normal.dot template in a template folder located on a network share. I tried to repath the template folder path in Options in Word but it keeps looking at this network version (repathed user and workgroup templates). The problem with that is apparently other workstation also have a similar problem so more than one workstation is using this network version of the normal.dot. Since multiple wksts are using this template it is locked from saving changes and any template changes are reverted back to default on startup. Is there anyway I can force this workstation to point to a locate normal.dot but also have a network template path for other templates. Hi - hope someone out there can help me...

Sometimes when I open an existing document and make
changes and choose Save As, Word exits the program
without any warning. The problem seems to be getting
worse. I am having the problem on both a networked
computer that uses a roaming profile on an NT4 server as
well as a standalone machine.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

There are many causes of this sort of problem but one of the most likely is
abandoned temp files. Search in Documents & Settings/Username/ Local
Settings/Temp and delete everything in there when all applications are
closed. You may have to restart the computer to release all file locks. The
temp folder should be exactly what it says, so when all applications are

Sometimes when I open an existing document and make
changes and choose Save As, Word exits the program
without any warning. The problem seems to be getting
worse. I am having the problem on both a networked
computer that uses a roaming profile on an NT4 server as
well as a standalone machine.

Any thoughts? Thanks!
