'Save As' options in Word 2003

Is there any way that Word 2003 can be 'persuaded' to save a file as
WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS? I have just upgraded and I find that I can no
longer do this - but I need to!

Any ideas?

Hi, Dawn. Word's text converters are stored in the "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv" folder. The WordPerfect
5.x for DOS converter is named WPFT532.CNV. The old read/write version
of the converter was about 300Kb, and the new read-only version of the
converter is about half that size. You can rename the existing
converter to something like WPFT532.OLD, and copy the old converter from
your old Office version to this folder. Do this at your own risk, as
the old converter contains a security vulnerability that Microsoft fixed
in the new converter by removing its write capability.

Thank you for your advice. I was wondering though, how much of a risk it
would be to install the old converter. I don't have my old copy of Office,
but I have found the files available for downloading. I'm just a little
unsure whether to proceed or not. Bearing in mind that I'm not very
tech-savvy, what is the worst that could happen if I go ahead?

Hi, Dawn. I guess the worst thing that could happen is that you get a
macro virus that destroys a bunch of your files. Not likely to happen
if keep your antivirus software updated and scan all email attachments
and other foreign files before opening them, but still possible.
