hyperlinks pointing to a redirect to a redirect fails
Is there any known problem where a hyperlink is placed in
MS Word, which points to a page with a redirect which
points to another page with a redirect and fails to
display. If this same link is placed in an Outlook email
it works fine. If the link is placed in MS Word, to the
direct path of the first redirect it appears to work
fine. I have not been able to find an article relating to
this.
Products used: desktop is XP - SP1, Word 2002, IE 6, and

Word is not responding
My computer:
Win2K Pro, Service Packs installed,
P4 - 1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM.
When I tried to open a word file of ~2MB,
it is not responding 20-30 secons later,
but the file opens 40-50 minutes later.
I also tried to open that file another PC which
has the same configuration and the file opens
in 1 minutes.
If someone can help me to solve that strange problem,
I will be fine and can sleep tranquilly.

Word quits.
I am running Windows XP Home edition.
On top of that I am running MS Office 2000 standard
When using MS Word and I type the following "Dear sir,"
and hit return Word quits without saving, creating a temp
file or nothing.
If you type a space between the last letter and the comma
there is no problem, any other word following "Dear "
followed by comma then return is still a problem, it
happens on existing documents new documents.

Everytime I click on a Word doc in Windows Explorer it open the program.
If I'm in Windows Explorer, and I double click on a Word
document, the ducument open up, with no problem.
But if I then double click on a second Word document from
Windoes Explorer, the file opens up and we see the Word
Flash appearing a 2nd time as if this was the only Word
document that is open.
In other words, everytime I open a Word file from Windows
Explorer, a Word Flash appears as it is the first time
that I open the document.
PS: This happens with Word and XL
PS: If I click on file, open from Word, the Flash does not
appear even if I open several documents. This only happens
when I open up several Word docs from Windows Explorer. Tag: Runtime Error Message When Trying To Open Any 2000 Office Document Tag: 61738

word xp crashing with box
I am having a problem with word in that it keeps crashing after a while. It
leaves behind a box (1 cm high by about 7 cm long) that is always on top of
all other windows. To get rid of the box I have to completely reboot the
computer. I have not got a clue as to what is happening. It happens doing
different things with word at different times.
I have XP Pro and Office XP. All updates on both.
Has anyone seen this problem before or knows how to fix it?

Repair strips document of old versions
I have a document that contains numerous older versions
(created via MSWord 97's Version feature) and I want to
open one of those old versions. Unfortunately, Word 2002
crashes and exits whenever I try to open the particular
version that I want.
To get around this, I tried to use the 'Open and Repair'
option in the file open dialog box. The repair system
identifies some incompatibilities in the style formats
and 'repairs' them, but the fixed document is missing all
of the older versions! This is not very useful.
Does anyone have an idea as to how I might extract the
old version of this document either directly or through
some manipulation of the repair system? I've been unable
to find a solution via the microsoft support databases.

Need a document that makes Word crash
We're using MS Word XP as part of a VB application that
processes large batches of documents. On a couple of
occasions Word has crashed while opening a document. There
is nothing really wrong with the document, and if you shut
down Word and reopen it then it doesn't crash again. The
real problem is that when Word reopens the same document
that it crashed on before, it displays a dialog box to ask
the user whether you really want to open a possibly bad
document.
Since this application has to run as a batch process with
no user intervention I'd like to write code to deal with
Word failures in a more graceful way. From the Word VBA
help it looks like I could use this property.
Application.DisplayAlerts = wdAlertsNone
I think that would prevent the confirmation dialog box
from appearing. The problem is I can't reproduce the crash
to know whether that change would really work.
Does anyone out there have a .doc file that causes Word XP
to crash every time you open it? I tried using a hex
editor to insert some random garbage into a test file but
couldn't get Word to crash. So if anyone does have a
suitable bad file like that I would really appreciate it
if you could e-mail me a copy.

But whenever I use Word (Save, organize styles, or

Limit on number of word graphic objects?
I have a coworker who has always used Word's own drawing
features to draw diagrams in Word. We recently moved to
Office XP (his machine's OS is NT 4) and he generally
finds things do not work as they used to.
However he now has a specific problem with a particular
document which probably contains hundreds of textbox
graphic objects, most with a dozen characters of text in
them. When he tried to add just one more text box, Word
hung. It turns out this document has more text boxes in it
than he has ever drawn before. We discovered that if we
delete 3 of the text boxes, it will let us add 3 new ones,
but one more and Word will hang again - then we have to
kill it with the task manager.
So - is there a limit on the number of a) Word - drawn
text boxes b) characters in Word-drawn text boxes c) Word-
drawn graphic objects that Word XP can put into a single
document ?
Are there any workarounds ?
I have recommended moving all the drawing to Powerpoint,
since there have been other issues about the text in the
text boxes gaining heading styles which would never happen
with graphic objects pasted in from another application.
However time does not permit moving to another application
for this document.

Problem occurs when creating a 2-UP PDF file, i.e., 2 pages per sheet within

but the PDF file is created with only 1-UP.
For example, using a .txt file, I am able to create a 2-UP PDF file with

No problem with Excel .xls file or .htm file in IE.
I suspect that the problem occurs only with Word.
