    - Recovering from temp directory Anyone know whether I can recover a file that was launched from an e-mail attachment, edited, then saved to a temp directory that goes away when the app closes? I launched a Word document from an e-mail, edited it for 4 hours, and saved it, forgetting it went to the temp directory.     - "Paragraph character" in find and replace In Word 2003, when you go to Replace (or Find), choose more by pressing more button, opening the options at the bottom and from there, choose "Paragraph character" from special button, it inserts ^v, instead of ^p as the search term, and obviously, fails to find the paragraph marks. Then, I realized that there is another choice as "Paragraph mark" which inserts the correct search term and does the job After this, I realized that you can insert the paragraph mark character into your documents as a printable character, and the special search term ^v, which is "Paragraph character", finds that printable character It is funny to see that MS tried to improve Word's find and replace function by including the symbol for the "Paragraph character" in the selection menu, but by doing so, they also introduced a confusion, resulting in not being able to do what one wants to do Just writing this, so that, people who may trip into the same confusion may find their answers readily.     - Auto Correct Restoration Errors While transferring auto correct entries to a new computer, I received an error message about spaces. MS apparently has recognized this as a problem (Knowedge Base Article #275322). I followed MS's directions to a "T" and it still gives me the same error. The text that is causing the problem are addresses -- and I have ZILLIONS of them on the business computer. The last two times I upgraded, I had to go through and retype/re-enter each and every address. Please tell me someone out there knows a solution to this problem and I won't have to retype all these blasted addresses again. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.     - Word 97 printing error When I try to print a file, I get an error message (Winword, An error has occurred. To keep working...). I removed the file that I was working on to another folder and tried printing a file that I've printed before, but still got the error message.     - Error Message when trying to open Word 2000 Today I started getting an error message when trying to launch MSWord 2000. Have never had problem before. Message is as follows. Winword had caused and error in MSO9.DLL. I have tried renaming the Normal.dot and deleting the Data file from the Register (using regedit), also tried moving all .dot files out of the MSWord start up path. So far nothing has changed or affected the problem. I also tried starting word by using winword.exe /a . I also uninstalled word and reinstalled it and downloaded all of the updates.     - Acrobat 6 preventing Word 2000 from opening I just installed Acrobat 6 and after working once it now seems to be blocking Word 2000 from opening. I get just a page fault. I am using Windows 98. I am pretty sure this is the issue because the same thing happened on my laptop. Another symptom is that Acrobat 6 will not uninstall because it thinks Word is running and using it, even though it is not open.     - Word 2000 getting extremely slow Hi Using Office 2000 Word (version 9.0.0.7924) on Win XP Home (all updates applied): Word is really starting to drive me nuts. I'm usually working with documents which have between 50 and 100 pages each. Every time I try to do a Search & Replace in those docs, it takes about 30 seconds until the dialog pops up. Also, when I close the application, it takes another minute or so until Word finally decides to close. Has anyone out there an explanation for this behaviour?     - Can't get Sound Recorder comments to play Hi- In a word doc, I added a sound comment--the Sound Recorder program popped up, I recorded a comment, the recorder showed input and everything--and my markup balloons show a little speaker icon at that spot.     - Word/Outlook Error when replying When using Word as your email editor I receive a message stating "Title: Microsoft Office Outlook (Message: Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The Outlook e-mail editor will be used instead) I was running a beta version of Office prior to this and that's the only thing i can recall. I have since then done a total uninstall of any office component and a full reinstall to see that the problem still exists. I've tried reregistering word with a winword /r. I've tried removing the Office Reg keys and doing a full repair of Office. I have also read many other group articles talking about customers running older versions of Office with 2003. I'm not doing either but it looks as though something has caused this error to appear. Please also note that this error did not occur after i installed Office 2K3. I infact was running fine for several months before one day out of the blue this error appeared. I dont recall installing any additional software or plugins and if so, they've been pulled from outlook and Word. Also, I can generate new emails to send out without recieving this error message but irratically i will get a box pop up that states "Title: Microsoft Office Word. (Message: No such interface supported). This does not hinder the email and still allows me to send off but I can't find any fixes on this problem. And last, what's up with the newsgroup....Your search engine is the horrible experience i have ever seen! I can get better answers searching through google and finding your newsgroup articles! I know this is a lengthy note but i've seen a good number of people in other groups receive this error message aswell....and NO fix has ever been deduced. Someone has to have the answer to this!     - Word 2000 Every time I try to open Word, it locks my computer up. My operating system is Windows ME. When I hit control>alt>delete, I get a message that says the system is dangerously low on resources and I should quit the program immediately. I quit the program and the machine is locked up.     - Word causing reboot All: I've done some searching but haven't found anything that explains this problem. A user has a floppy disk with Word docs on it. If she attempts to open the docs on a certain machine, the machine opens the doc in Word and then reboots. No errors, no warnings, just a reboot. Copied files to the C:\ drive, same result. Tried the floppy in MY machine and all is fine. Open any OTHER Word docs on the suspect machine and everything is fine. Scanned floppy for viruses and it's clean. Suspect machine: W2K SP4, all patches, O2K SP3 all patches. There are 25 other machines identical to the one in question and they don't have the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks.     - Word 2003 text changed to boxes RE: Word 2003 v. 11.6113.5703 (part of Office 2003 upgrade over Works 2002 on Win XP Pro computer) Last night, I was working on a document in Word 2003, when suddenly, the text turned to little ASCII-style boxes. The font was listed as Courier, instead of the Times New Roman I had been using. An error message appeared saying something about the .DOT file being damaged. I tried selecting the entire document (Ctrl-A) and changing the font back to Times, but that didn't restore the text. I had been working on this .DOC all day, and had been saving my file often. AutoSave was on. In addition, my backup routine automatically saves a copy of my work to an external hard drive every five minutes if the file has changed. When I tried to look for my document in Explorer, the file had disappeared. The only files related to it were a whole series of WRL backups. The most recent ones were corrupted, too, but going back, I found one with the work from about three hours earlier. I saved it with a new name in the appropriate My Documents folder, then shut down and rebooted. Of course, I am now stuck with having to reconstruct that last few hours of work that went into the document. I am not aware that I did anything to cause this. The computer had been on all day, and several programs were running in addition to Word 2003, including Groove, Windows Messenger, Outlook Express, Opera (browser) and possibly some others. I usually work with these programs open, and have never had a problem like this. My virus definitions are up to date, and my computer checks out as virus-free. Today, I opened the file I saved last night, and it seems fine. Word seems to be working properly. There is still no sign of the original file I was working on yesterday. It just vanished. I'm nervous about this happening again. I didn't find anything in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that refers to this.     - Visual Basic Error When I first open Microsoft Word, I receive the following error: "Compile error in hidden mode: ThisDocument". I have gone into macros, Visual Basic Editor, and Visual Scripting to try to fix this, but nothing works. When this popup window appears, it offers OK, and HELP buttons.     - winword process does not terminate Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I didn't see another that was more approprite. I'm running Office XP on an XP Pro OS with SP1a. If find that on occasion, usually when another applications hangs, that winword.exe is still in the process. This appears to only occur when I've sent a message (Word is editor of Outlook e-mail). I've tried using System Restore to an earlier date and also Uninstalling Programs in the Control Panel but nothing seems to work. PLEASE can someone help so that he can get his PC back to how it was and be able to use WordPad to create documents again?     - Word 2002 error message just recently Word 2002 strated to misbehave with an error message 'Error 1042 cannot access registry key. It then goes on to say I need to consult my administator because I don't have the necessary permission to access the registry.     - Can't open saved Word 2000 docs Hi A client of mine is unable to open previously saved docs in Word 2000. If he tries this he gets a Winword error and Word shuts down. I have tried cleaning temporary files and typing winword /r in Start Run with him but it doesn't seem to have fixed this.     - Microsoft Office:mac This might not be the right site to post this, but the whole customer sevice site is confusing. My problem: I purchased Microsoft Office for my Mac OSx a year or so ago. A recent problem with my Mac required me to send it into Apple to get it fixed. As a precaution, I copied some Word and Excel files to my wife's computer, and sent my Mac in for service. They fixed it, but had to replace the hard drive. When I got it back, I installed the Office:mac CD applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and copied my files back to my computer. When I tried to open them, however, I am asked to provide a "CD Key" from the back of the booklet I got with my software. I can't find the booklet -- I probably threw it away.     - A backgound grid Hi, Please help! A person was sent a Word document that opened with a grid (like graph paper) behind the text. We don't know if the grid was part of that document.     - Text selected with mouse skips and jumps When I select more than a few paragraphs of text with my left mouse button it desekects previously selected text as I move down the page, usually where the formatting (margin, indent) changes, but not even there on a regular basis. After deselecting previously selected text, it selects more for a while, then deselects it, etc. I tried downloading a new mouse driver, but it didn't help any. I have click and type enabled, and the option to highlight an entire word. Whassup with this? I also just reinstalled Win2K before this problem cropped up. Or didn't crop. Whatever.     - How to delete section breaks? Hi all, We're having trouble deleting section breaks. If you highlight the break and hit either delete or backspace nothing happens.     - Can't see the macro list when creating custom menus I need to build a custom menu of a list of macros. When I select "Macros" under "Categories" on the "Commands" tab of the "Customize" dialog, I can't read the macro names in the list under "Commands". The qualifiers to the macro name exceed the space availble in the box, and it is not possible to scroll right to see the the full name. For example the macro smAddCustomProperties is displayed as TemplateProject.NewMacros.smAddCustomProperties - everything to the right of is is not visible. Is there a way to view the macro name?     - word files saved on CDRW drive If I make a Word 2000 doc (Win 98 operating system) and save it on the hard drive, then copy the file onto a CDRW drive, the file will open fine when transfered to my new XP -office 2003 Word program. Yes, you can remove Word 97, but if you want reinstall it, you will need the
disk.
