I have created a simple two column brochure page with a header and a footer
and continuous text with paragraphs numbered automatically. The page looks
good when seen in the Word Print View and in Print Preview. When you
actually print the page the numbers 14, 15, and 16 appear at the top of the
left column randomly between the lines. Taking out the text in that 1"
vertical section and replacing it with carrage returns allows the text below
to move down and the numbers 14, 15 and 16 to show clearly. The two columns
are full. I'll be happy to send you the file so you can see for yourself
what I have. How can I get rid of these phantom numbers on the printed
document? Why are they there on the hard copy I print on my HP Photosmart
7900 series printer.

The do not look good on my finished one page brochure.

We saw something like this recently when an embedded graphic field was
located inside a fixed-height table row. It was not showing up in any view,
yet it was printing. You say "two-column brochure". Are these table columns,
or newspaper-style columns?

You might try clicking on the Select Objects tool on the Drawing toolbar,
then drawing a box around everything on the page to see if some hidden
object (like a textbox) gets selected.

You might also check in the header or footer to see if it contains the
numbers. This would seem less likely, however, since they're not showing up
in print preview.

Herb,

Thanks for the input. So far as I know none of the conditions you mentioned
exist in my two column brochure. I'll be happy to send you a copy if you
would like to check it out. The brochure is three pages long and describes
one of our upcoming workshops on "Maintenance Storeroom Modernization and MRO
Materials Management Improvement".

Anne Troy,

Thanks for teaching me another fact about the powerful Microsoft Word
Program. You were kind enough to review the file and discovered that the
column to the right of item 6. on the left contained a numbering format and
that the numbers for those right hand paragraphs were showing up under the
left most column. The numbers went away when you removed the numbering
format from the right most paragraphs.

I really do appreciate the support for this most baffling of problems. Now
that I know the secret, all is well once again in the MEI Brochure World.
