Type a page in word and save to the desktop, as word doc KAH1.doc. Close
word, find doc on desktop and try to open it. I get this error window
stating, "C:\Documents and Settings\Rick\Desktop\KAH1.doc is not a valid
Win32 application.

Click OK, window closes and only then will doc open.

Do the same in a different user profile and file opens without the dialog
box above.

Can't find any difference between the two users to fix this problem.

Look in Windows Explorer for a Run action in the .doc file association.

If you have Windows XP, start Windows Explorer, click on Tools | Folder
Options | File Types, scroll down the list of registered file types to
.DOC, click once on .DOC, and click on Advanced. What actions are
associated with this file type?

Went to Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Opt | File Types, scrolled down to
DOC and selected
Details for DOC extention,
Opens with MS Word
Change and Restore not accessable
No Advanced to click on.

OK. Try using Start, Run and typing in

winword /r

and pressing enter. Nothing should appear to happen, but Word should have
reregistered itself in Windows correctly. Can you open the document now. If
not, do you have Norton Anti Virus installed? Disable the Office Plug-in
under Preferences in NAV.

Also, the desktop isn't a very stable location to save documents: if the
desktop crashes, you loose any documents saved to it. This is not an
uncommon occurrence.
