    - Opening file in MyDocuments My MS Word program has suddenly started to do something strange. Whenever I try to open a Word document in My Documents or in a separate file therein I get an error message "Windows cannot find "C:\My Documents\File.doc." Then I have to search for the file and when I click on the found file it opens OK. Somehow a disconnect has occurred between Word and MyDocuments. I always have to search for the file first before I can open it. I am using Word 2000 in Windows Me on an old Inspiron 3800 Dell laptop.     - No new page, instead marker disappears Hi! I type normal text at the first page of a new document, but when I get to the end of the page, Word does not give me a new page; instead the marker just continues down out of sight.     - After accepting all changes, I can't save the document... I've been editing a lot of documents recently with no problem at all (Word 2007). Today, however, sections of the document would turn black, when I scrolled down or up a page, the black went away. And then came back. Over and over. Later, I accepted all changes to the document (there were MANY) and tried to save it, but the program hung and would complete the save. Finally, I had to highlight a few paragraphs at a time, accept those changes, and save. I repeated that procedure all the way through the document and finally was able to save a completely edited version.     - word doc fails to print the bottom half of the last line of text I have a HP L7780 all in one. It does not happen with all documents, but it is a frequent occurance that the bottom half of the last line of text will not print. I checked with HP today - after going through several things they said it is a Microsoft problem. I did download the latest printer driver after my conversation with them, and it did not solve the issue. I have Vista, and MS Word 2007.     - Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Pack troubles I've got a problem and I think I know the source but I wanted to check in and see first if I'm alone and second if I'm not, what others have done to solve it. Here's the problem: My employer just rolled out installation of the 2007 office compatibility pack from Microsoft to our entire user-base (apparently they intend to upgrade users in waves over the next year to 2007 but for users now using 2000 and 2003 they wanted to prepare us). I've written a handful of applications in VBA (some in Excel and some in Access) which have been useful for a number of people here at work. Since the "upgrade" this last weekend to the compatibility pack, I've noticed some serious problems and some less than serious problems. First, in word (a less than serious problem) I've noticed that the little squiggly lines under misspelled words are now randomly closer together for certain words in a document... instead of seeing the vvvvvvvv under the misspelled word I'd see more like a darker thicker red underline... though not through the document... just under random words. Then in excel, I've used the VBA function to suppress screen updates while the code is running and then re-enable screen updates when the code completes. This used to work really well. Post-update the system still works though the menus and buttons across the top of the screen no longer update when the code finishes running (something it used to do). Finally, in access, I've noticed that on forms where I have a field for a hyperlink, if the hyperlink is to a location locally (like ".\filename.doc") I have no problem but if the link is to a web address (like "http:\\www.google.com\") the font doesn't map right to the cursor location. If I place the cursor in front of a given letter in the address and attempt to change something I invariably select the wrong character (ie not the character displayed on the screen as selected). Our network techs had never seen anything like this before. They've offered to uninstall the compatibility pack on my system... but this wouldn't help anyone else. They've offered to install 2007 on my system now and not wait for the rollout later but again, only helps me and not the users of my apps. Before I capitulate to one of their whack-a-mole solutions I thought I'd check with the board and see if anyone else has seen anything like this and if anyone else has a solution to these problems. I'm intending to cross post in an access.gettingstarted and a excel.programming as well... but if you have any suggestions of where better than "application.errors" to place this post, please respond with that info as well.     - Word 2003 Total failure Ok, Word 2003 (SP3) on my computer (XP SP2) is having a serious problem today. When I open a document, be it a saved document or a new blank page, I get an unspecified error message saying just that Word has encountered an error and needs to close. It gives the option to recover my document, but if I do that it only produces the same error again. Here's what I've done so far to fix it (and failed): 1Basic restart of the computer - no effect. 2Sent error report and followed the link to help there, which brought me to Office Updater. I downloaded and installed the update (which was actually only for Outlook) - no effect 3 Tried to repair Office through the add/remove programs menu.     - Custom dictionary emptied itself Using Word 200 on Windows XP: I was spell checking a simple document and went to add a new Word to my custom dictionary. I got "The custom dictionary is full. The word was not added" error message. When I went to check the dictionary to see if it was overly huge, It was empty, with a size of 0 KB, modifed at the precise time I had received teh error message. Any idea what happened?     - "Enter network password" popup over HTTPS Hi, i am having an issue with some documents that have to be downloaded from our production server, the things is, everythigns was working fine, we had a client side script that called the word.application ActiveX and then opened the documents, from the server, saved them locally, and them merged them in a single file, after all this, word.applciacion came up visible, ready to print. BUT We installed a SSl certificate on the server, and then suddently, "ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD" popup started to show, the users dont have any password. What is happening? How can i disable these popups? i dont think this in in the server-side, i thing maybe som browser settings apply over secure connecitons that does not allow these conecctions, any suggestions?     - Error with Italics font - PLEASE HELP On another PC in my office we have found that when a word is styled at Times New Roman, Size 9, Italic... it shrinks, but bring it up to a size ten it is fine. Change the font to Bodini its fine. It is only when it is in that exact format that it shrinks to and unreadable thing... Any thoughts??? I have been plugging away at this all morning and am stumped.     - Spell Checker resets after Find - Word 2003 SP3 If I use Find during a spell check, upon resumption spell checker flags words I've previously told it to ignore.     - Bug in Tables Hi We have discovered a bug in Word 2007 running under XP sp2. When selecting some text within a table, and changing the formatting (ie colour/bold etc) it changes the whole document. If you then 'undo' the action, then several things may happen, either -document returns back to normal, and your font is changed as you expected - document including your selected text returns to normal, after which time, you are then not able to change the formatting of the selected text, unless you go and do something else, and try again.     - Error Opening a Word Mobile File I had a word 2003 document emailed to me that will open fine in Word 2007 on my dekstop, but on my Windows Mobile 6 device I get an error when Word Mobile starts to open that says, "An error occured. The document could not be opened." (Occurred is really misspelled in the error message as occured.). Other documents open in Word Mobile, it just seem to be this one file.     - Normal.dot keeps getting corrupt When I delete Normal.dot, Word opens fine. If I close and open Word without deleting Normal, the splash screen just suits there without launching. Then once Winword process is killed, I'm offered to open in Safe Mode on next launch, which launches. Yet - if Normal is deleted after each launch - Word launches just fine.     - Word 2007 and 3rd party software Got two unrelated sites, unrelated third party software but similar Word problems. In both cases word documents are saved to a server, and on both the server and local machines the documents can be opened, edited, printed saved etc, but once you start up the software and then try to open the documents, this is where the problems start. On one you cannot open the file as it is being declared corrupt, please open the document and test and repair it. This happens after you originally generate the letter/ document and save it. If the Word 2007 machine opens the doc a 2nd time all appears ok, but you cannot open it a 3rd time, neither with Word 2007 or any other machine, same problem, check, test and repair, yet as I have said if you browse directly to the file you can open it fine. On the second site, again word is fine, you can open, edit close and print. Once you open the doc on the PC and then go to save it you get an error EOALPHABETICARABICARABICABJADARABICALPHABATHTTEXTCAPSCARDTEXTCHARFORMMATCHI (Letter_20071123_105223.doc) You can open word, outside of the application, copy the text from the 'faulty word doc' paste it into the good version and save that. I realise they are different problems, but it just seems odd, 2 3rd party apps, with Word problems. Company 1 is looking into it, company 2 is saying, not our problem its a windows problem, re-install everything and the problem will be fixed. Anyone got any ideas?     - the address list could not be displayed I decided to switch from outlook express to outlook. I imported my outlook express data. Emails and folders etc... transferred but when I go to send an email and look to find an email address I get "the address list could not be displayed because the contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened".     - Page Preview & Table of Contents In Word 2003, I create a table of contents and everything seems to work fine - all the page numbers are correct for the page of text. When I look at it in page preview, however, all the pages show (on the TOC) as page 1. I then have to close the preview, close the document, reopen it, and click on F9 to redo the TOC.     - Word 2007 - slow opening I seem to recall having had this problem with an earlier version of Office, but it appears to have returned with Office 2007. Opening the programme seems to take forever, certainly in excess of ten seconds from clicking the desktop icon. Is there a known cure, since I cannot recall what I did last time. Thanks.     - Save As menu instantly reloads (Word 2007) Hi everyone, Maybe there's a reasonable explanation but this has me stumped - basically, when I go to save a document for the first time in Word 2007, after clicking 'save' the Save As menu instantly reloads with a number beside the file name (example: a file saved initially as 'test' reappears as 'test1').     - Drop down menu box outline appears, but no text. When I click on file, insert, etc. in the menu bar the outline of the box will appear as if the menu has opened, but I can see no text in the box and I am unable to click on anything in the box.     - Word Keeps Closing When I have multiple docs open in Word, save them, and then close them by using the "X" in the corner (NOT THE X ON TOP THAT CLOSES WORD, BUT THE LITTLE X UNDERNEATH), the whole program closes. I have done this a number of times and am absolutely sure I am not hitting the "X" that closes Word, but am hitting the smaller "X" underneath that should just close the document.     - Word 2000 won't open files When the user tries to open a file, the file open dialog box lists some of the files in the My Documents directory and then Word freezes and must be closed using the "End now" button. I have tried repairing Word and also deleting it and reinstalling. No change. Document files can be opened from explorer by clicking on the file and once opened the file can be changed and saved but no files can be opened from inside Word.     - "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and need to close..." As of yesterday, whenever I open Microsoft Word, I get a message that announces that the aplication "has encountered a problem and needs to close." I am given the option to recover my work and restart Word. However, once Word restarts, this cycle happens again. After one or two attempts to restart Word, I am given the option to open it in Safe Mode. If I accept that option, it does work; Word opens in Safe Mode. However, what to do from there. This is Office 2003 that I am dealing with and I have already done two things... Insert the CD and "Repair Office," and uninstall Office completely, then reinstall it. The later part worked for a single night, then came back. Here is my suspicion... I have noticed the pattern of this happening AFTER I install the latest Microsoft Updates not on my computer - SP3 and Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter. After I restart, I don't right away go to use Word, but the problem seems to come up once I do. I will attempt to uninstall those updates and see if something happens. If tat doesn't work, I'll uninstall and then reinstall Office and not update the computer to see if that does anything.     - Control keyboard shortcuts stopped working I'm on Mac OS X 10.4.8 running Word 2004. My Control key shortcuts (Control + whatever) have stopped working and I don't know where the problem is. I reloaded my Normal template with all my macros and checked that the shortcuts are listed as current in the Customize Keyboard dialog, but when I try to use a Control shortcut nothing happens. I also tried to re-enter my Control key shortcuts in the "Press new shortcut key" box, but I'm unable to enter them at all -- if I try to type "Control + c", the box just stays empty. Please tell me this is a simple fix. :) I use my keyboard shortcuts constantly. The other shortcuts are working fine, just not any that involve the Control key. Thanks in advance for any help.     - Word 2007 Stops Working Message This doesn't happen all the time, when I go to open a Word document I get an error message that states Word is not working properly and a solution is being searched for and then shuts down. I'll go an open up Excel and then minimize it and try Word again and sometimes ti will open properly and sometimes it won't.     - word 2007 bcm 2007 mail merge i have several users that is using word 2007 to try and create mailing labels from bcm contacts. in word 2007, they would choose mailings tab and start mail merge. select labels and choose the label size. when they click on "select recipients", word just shuts down and disappears. no error message, nothing. i have tried reinstalling office 2007, installing all the office updates and still the same problem. i have other users that the mail merge is working fine. any suggestions?     - Word 2003 has messed up my system Hi I have Word 97 installed on my system. Recently, I needed to install Office 2003 as well, as I received some docs that were not compatible with Word 97. I installed Word 2003 and told the installer I wanted to keep my old installation as well. Unfortunately, Word 2003 has now been made the default programme for opening all .doc files, and for some reason I cannot change it back again. (Right-click the file type and select open with, always opens with word 2003 even if I select the old programme. This is in Windows XP Home.) Any ideas for how to tame this?     - Avoiding corrupt files by saving as .rtf or .xml ? Every day or so we have damaged Word files. We know how to repair them with "Open and Repair" but wish we could avoid that. We have tried many things (disable fast saving, etc) with no success. So I thought about storing the files in .rtf ou .xml format instead of .doc (we are using Word 2003). Do you think this may be a good idea? Is "corruption" only limited to .doc files or can it happen just as often with "text" formats like rtf or xml?     - The author of a document is reverting to a previous author I have a word document that has had several versions by different writers over a period of time. Also persons would have made electronic contributions to the document and returned it with their changes. What I have noticed is that the document is now showing up with the author field changed. I am puzzled because the last version of the document would have had myself as the author and no one is claiming to have manually changed the author field under properties. I need help confirming if their is a feature/bug in the system that would inadvertently change the author field if someone else uses the document on their system.     - Word docs fail to print last several lines of first page My printer (HP L7780) works fine with other applications (ie. Explorer, pdfs). When I try to print word documents, 75% of the time the first page only partially prints. It stops printing about 1.5" from the bottom of my text - wherever that might be. Frequently, the page is cut off in the middle of a line with only the top half of the letters having been printed. If there is a footer on the page, it will not be printed either. The most frustrating thing, is that occasionally it works correctly. The same doc will fail to print properly as described above, and then with no changes but for printing it again, it will be ok. The documents look perfect in print preview, but then print with the bottom of the page missing. I would appreciate any help regarding this extremely frustrating issue.     - frames don't fit pictures I am working on a large document with many pictures. On just a few of them, the frame won't fit the picture. It seems always to be too far out on the left side.
