    - Word 2003 deletes doc file from flash drive entirely when crashing Twice now, my Word 2003, for no discernable reason, has crashed while I was working on a document file opened from a flash drive. Each time it crashed, it actually totally deleted the original file from the flash drive, and couldn't find the "recovered" file anywhere in order to open and re-save it - not even from the specified timed backup location. The two files this happened with were entirely different ones. How can I stop this from happening?     - Error Saving Correct Changes in MS Word 2007 Hi there, I was wondering if there is a solution to this problem I'm having. I've been working on revising my thesis using MS Word 2007, a very large document, on Windows XP, with all service packs and MS Updates installed. I make changes to the thesis on a daily basis, and save the file onto my HDD as well as on my USB external HDD every time I make a change on the document, which is around every two to five minutes when I'm working. I get a file permission error when I try to save the changes manually (by clicking the Save icon or the Save As.. option). Regardless of whether I try to save on the HDD or the USB drive, I get a file permission error every now and then. So far, my tactic has been to wait until the program will allow me to save the changes. I try to save a few times, pause, and try again. But this in itself is frustrating. And then, last night after completing a save after a long wait, the file was incorrectly saved. This morning I found different versions of the file I was trying to save on my HDD (all with the same name, on my HDD and my USB drive), and had to sift through each document to compile them all into a new document. Is that really necessary? I've never had problems like this before. At my office PC, using Office 2003, I can save every 30 seconds to both USB drive and HDD with no problems. I think I would like to be able to manually save my documents again, without worrying whether MS Word got it right. What can I do? I've set the save preferences to save every 5 minutes, I have Norton Antivirus, and my computer is connected to a home network.     - Word slow on performing tasks Word 2002 SP3 Accessing commands from a menu item, e.g. Tools/Options or Tools/ Templates and Add-ins, take over 60 seconds to bring up the dialog box. When the dialog box finally appears, there is also another 60 second wait when I press OK after making any changes. I've performed the usual troubleshooting procedures--deleting Normal.dot, deleting the Data subkey in the Registry, starting Word from the command line with "/a." All to no avail. I have also had Word performed a detect & repair. All other applications run normally in my computer with 2 GB of RAM. Your help would be appreciated.     - How do I get rid of message No Thesaurus is available for Welsh? I have installed Office 2003 on my new computer. For some reason Office now thinks I'm Welsh.     - Sentence would not wrap to next page On two seperate occassions this week, I was typing a document in Word and when I got to the last line, it didn't wrap to next page. Sometimes the curser would disappear and nothing more happened, sometimes the curser moved from the last letter on the page to about 10 lines up. I finally was able to proceed to the next page by inserting a page break after the last word on the first page(Contr-enter). Never had that happen before.     - Issue with Normal.dot Hi all, I have a user who keeps receiving the message that there were changes to the normal.dot and does she want to save the changes. To her knowledge, she does not make any changes to the document so she picks "No" most of the time but she picks "Yes" somes. However, the message keeps popping up. Usually after the message goes away, she can't open up any Word docs or save any Word documents and her computer gets more and more difficult to work with. For example, other applications will open in "Read Only" even if she has access to save the documents. A restart will solve the problem temporarliy but then the problems start up again. I have tried to replace the normal.dot but this doesn't make the issue go away. I have also deleted any temp files but still the issue continues. She is using a Windows XP operating system and is using Office 2003. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!     - Multiple embedded Linked Visio 2007 Objects Files fail to print I have Office 2007 SP1 and Visio 2007 SP1. I've created a word document that links in multiple visio diagrams in separate files. If I do a print preview, I get expected results. When I spool out to the printer however, it only gives me the final diagram in place of all 3 links. Has anyone seen this behavior? I have a new computer with Vista and Office 2007; some but not all Word files copied from my old XP/Word 2003 can be moved or deleted because I get the message, 'this action can't be completed because the file is open in another programme'.     - Word Document resembles text doc when logged in on certain profile We are using Microsoft Office 2007 & the document is saved as 97-2003 .doc file on one of our 2003 Servers. Our users log into server via Citrix on thin clients. The problem arises when 1 particular user logs in under another particular user's name & accesses the file, which comes up resembling text document with no bold characters & font resembles Notepad look. This only happens on that person's thin client. When logged as himself, the document is correct. When the logging into any other thin client as the 2nd user, the document is correct. This only affects 1 user on his thin client logging in as another user who is not in the office. The absent user can log in on his thin client & view file correctly.     - Error when Closing Word Only happens when I receive word documents from other sources. If I open and close a word document from my computer all is well. However, here is the error that occurs when closing word: Word cannot open the file ~WRS{853716B4-63AE-4EE7-9489-54198A9C3039} If the file is stored on your computer, there may be a problem with your hardware. If the file is stored on the network, there may be a poblem with the network connection. If you can copy the file, try saving the file in another location and opening it there.     - Word 2007 Save Properties Reverts Back to 2003 Format I have Word 2007 installed on my main workstation (upgraded from 2003) and every time I open the application, the default format for documents reverts back to 2003 format.     - Word Freezing When Inserting Picture via File Word (and actually Publisher also) will not allow me to insert a picture via a file. It will open the 'open file' box and then freezes. I have to shut down via ctrl/alt/del. This has been going on forever and I'm sick of it! I need it to work. I have windows xp professional. Just installed service pack three. Deleted my temp folders, cleaned up my registry. I don't know what else to do. I also deleted the data registry for word to see if that would work...it didn't.     - Word Document - 17 MB and Growing Hi Have a weird issue that is cropping up with a sensitive document. We are running Windows XP with SP2, and Office 2003 with SP2. Document in question was created in Word 2003, and currently sits at 31 pages. It is mainly text, and does not have a huge amount of graphics. Because it is a working document however, there have been many revisions, updates, etc made to it. What appears to be happening is that everytime it is saved, it gets bigger...regardless of changes. It finally gets to the point where it can take 20 to 50 seconds, just to open, due to the size on disk. At this point, we have to copy all the date, and place into a new word document. What is interesting is to compare the size. When I performed this procedure today, it dropped from 17MB to 204KB.....so I am at a loss as to why it appears so big, when it really isn't. The formatting on the document also goes weird. For instance, if you bulletpoint a sentence, it will bulletpoint the entire document, even though that was not selected. Any ideas on this one??     - help with Table Macro I am new into writing macros and scripts and I need help with a simple procedure. I have a word document that contains a table. The table has several rows and 7 columns. (The number of rows varies, but the columns are always 7) Within this table I need script that will have a certain word or phrase (for example: Available Float, which will always be in column 7). Once the word is found, I need the script to delete the whole row, and go to the next looking for the same ( loop ).     - Cannot display requested font, insufficient memory about 3 weeks ago, Word (home and student 2007) began to spit up the error "There is insufficient Memory of disk space. Word cannot display the requested font" and removes all fonts except calibri, and screws up the file somewhat. 1G memory free when using word, 30+G Hdd space free. it has gotten to the point where it is almost impossible to get any work done. it is now doing it every time i open word. I have tried reinstalling, twice. no effect. i have tried removing the pdf creator. no effect. uninstalling adobe reader had no effect. installing the latest adobe has not helped. updating printer drivers didnt fix the problem either. im completely at a loss, and the microsoft support system is refusing to work atm. Hi, A friend of mine asked me to help with a problem she has every time she starts Word. She gets a message that says: "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Microsft Word 2002 disk and click OK." Then below this, it says, "Use source:" and the default is, "Works Suite Word CD or DVD." Hitting [CANCEL] gets the following message: "Error: 1706: Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\1033\Setup.hlp." I have checked online sources, as well as my own personal Guru (I'm *her* Guru - she comes to me with stuff *she* can't fix, but when *I* don't know something, I have another friend that *I* consult, who knows more than I do, IYKWIM.), and have come up with no answers that pertain to this particular situation. Since this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE OPENS WORD, it's naturally driving her a little batty, as it would me. Here's how my friend explains what she did that seemed to have triggered this problem: ************************************************************ There is an option in Windows that lets you download East Asian fonts. I did this so I could read Japanese kanji characters. It was apparently successful, but now, every time I try to run Word, I get a notice that I have to put the "Word 2002" disk in. I then hit CANCEL, and the computer says something like, okay, then let me configure Word -- and then it brings up Word and lets me in it. You'd think that having done this once, it wouldn't need to do it again. Oh, no, my friend. It goes through this rigamarole every single time I run Word. Please make it stop. In case it helps, here's what I did to download the fonts. (Basically, it's Start, Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Add other languages, Install Files for East Asian Languages.) There were two "tips" in the instructions that said: (1) "During the process, you may need to insert the XP CD so the relevant files can be copied across to your computer." (2) "A typical Windows XP CD will have a folder on the disk called "i386." This entire folder can be copied to the hard drive and then can be referenced for anything needing the WinXP Disk. When a program asks you for the CD, select the path on the hard drive where you copied this folder to." ************************************************************ Is there anyone out there who either has had this problem or has something I can try short of uninstalling Word/Works 2002 and getting and installing Office 2007, and preferably not messing with the registry, if at all possible?     - Text turns to garbage on screen when I send document to printer I use MS Office Work 2003 SP3. I was filling out a template that I use all the time but today, when I hit print, my newly typed text turns to garbage. It looks like the letters are all typed on top of each other.     - scrolling prevented beyond cursor after writing This has happened on many different computers, but for the record here is my configuration: WinXP pro, Office 2003 SP3 (11.8215.8202) After writing any word, sentence or space, I cannot scroll beyond where the blinking cursor is. As this is running on a laptop, I am sure that the mouse is not moved before trying to scroll (not sure if this has any effect on the problem). However, if I click anywhere in the document, situating the cursor somewhere else, I am able to scroll beyond the cursor. This happens both in new documents and old alike.     - Problems With Saving 2003 Microsoft Word Documents I am having problems with losing information that I am working on. Twice now I have lost a document I was working on because when I go to save it, and error an error message pops up asking if I want to continue and save. If I click no, it takes me to another box where it says: "File Conversion - Rescued Document - Warning saving as a text file will cause all formatting, pictures, & objects to be lost." Then below that it says, "Text Encoding" and I have 3 options: windows default, MS-DOS, other encoding." Further down it says "allow character substitution". So I chose the Windows Default option and that took me back to the original box where I forgot what it asked but I had to choose Yes or No again. So the next time I checked Yes. Well, it closed out of the document and it just disapeared from my computer! When I opened up autosave in word, it said "Word has experienced and error in trying to open the file." Then it gives me some suggestions (check the file permissions for the document or drive, make sure there is sufficient free memory & disk space, & open the file with text recovery converter. I have no idea where the document went! I check the recycle bin but I guess its gone. The document was saved on a USB drive but I cannot find it on there anymore.     - Cannot place cursor in outlook or word 2003 or open word attachmen I am not able to place my cursor in the message body of Outlook 2003 or anywhere in a Word 2003 document. I am also unable to open any Word attachments from Outlook.     - Visual Studio 2008 Debugging Error Message I have an old version of Microsoft Word (2000) running on Windows XP SP3 with the full Expression Studio 2 installed [Including VS2008 Standard Edition]. It has been running fine, or at least until recently. Sometimes, a screen pops up that says "an unhandled Win32 exception occured in WINWORD.EXE [3052]. Possible debuggers: "New Instance of Visual Studio 2008" Then there are a couple of options for the default choice. I've not begun computer programming yet, so I have no idea what it means. It asks me "do you want to debug using the selected debugger?" If I click "yes" then it opens VS2008 and attempts to debugg (which seems to be doing nothing). Meanwhile, MS Word isn't responding. If I click "no", MS Word closes and I can't re-open an automatically saved file. This is really confusing and bothersome (and it's interfering with daily workflow).     - winword.exe cannot close Dear all, My office computers were recently upgraded to Vista and Office 2007 and I notice a very strange problem: WinWord (and others) would not quit itself completely when user press the "X" button after it opened any file on network shares. Although there is no winword found on the desktop, I can see a list of multiple instances of winword.exe in task manager consuming memory just by hanging there. Manually disabling all COM AddIn or running winword as "winword /a" has no problem in quitting itself but neither of them is an acceptable solution. BTW, winword has no problem in closing itself completely when there are only files resized on local hard disk being opened. Any clue?     - Impossible to open several documents Hello, I use Word 2007 with SP1. It's impossible to open several document in the same time mainly when the documents contain "Text box". Sometimes, it's possible to open several documents, in the same time but in this case impossible to access "Text box". Example, if I want to copy/paste between 2 docs, I have to open the first one, copy, close doc, open the second and paste.     - Polish MS Word 2007 Hi I'm using Polish version of word 2007. Recently I noticed, what seems to me, funny translation of the original english command. When I apply numbering to some text and than apply numbering to some other text below the first one the second numbering is continuation of the first one. When I right click on the first item of the second (continued) list there is an option to start numbering from no. 1. But the option says "Uruchom ponownie o godzinie 1" what translated to English is "Start again at 1 o'clock". Is it what the english version says or is it the translation is incorrect (misleading).     - Crashing after IE update My word 2007 always crashes upon launch after autoupdates downloads an IE update. I'm running IE7. When this happens, reinstalling IE7 fixes the problem, until I get updated again. I turned off Automatic Updates for a few months, and the problem never happened during that time. I turned them back on, and sure enough it's crashing again. Since I had automatic updates set to download and install automatically, I have no idea what patch is causing the problem. I saved the error report that goes to M$ (and also sent several to them), but it doesn't tell me much. My goal in posting this is more to make M$ aware of a potential problem with one of their patches. Surely my configuration isn't unique enough so that I am the only one experiencing this.     - Error on close I am using Word 2007 (part of Office 2007) on XPSP2 with all updates. Everytime I close Word I get a dialog saying there was an error and asking if I want to send a report to MS and if I want to recover my work and restart Word.     - Can't save as native .docx I created a document and saved it as .doc because, after losing a few files due to coruptness, I believed it was more stable. Well I tried saving the .doc created in word 2007 as .docx but it still thinks it's a .doc as I get the compatibility checker window. No mater, saving as new file name, renaming, nothing allows me to open this .docx file in the new .docx format, it says [compatibly mode] no matter what I do or how I save it.     - Word was unable to compare We have had no problems using the Compare function in Word 2007 until today. While doing the Compare with a group of files, they all worked except two and an error message was received: "Word was unable to compare the documents" and these files are no different than the others in the folder. We were able to accomplish the compare by doing it in Word 2003 with no problem or errors but cannot figure out why Word 2007 is unable to compare these files. There are no protections and it didn't help to resave them to another location or as docx. I did a search online for the error message and didn't get a single hit for that specific error message; nothing at all on the Microsoft site either. I'm unable to send the files because it is secure information but any ideas on what the problem could be? The client is already convinced that our using Office 2007 will create problems that will cost them money and time so this is not going to help our case if a solution is not found.     - Security error I have a document with links to outside documents. Some users are able to use the links with no problems. Others get a message stating "Unable to open <doc name>. Can open MS Word documents work on them but when trying to save or print it
just freezes up the whole lot. Have to end the session with task manager. Got
the original CD's which I bought. Removed the program and re install it but
same problem occurs. ????

Sounds like a printer compatibility problem. Try starting Word in Safe Mode
and see if it will let you save.

From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document now and see if it will let you edit and
save.

If now, please let us know the version of Word and OS and if they are
patched up to date. What printer are you using and is that up to date?
