    - Word wont work right with .doc files If I click on a .doc file the computer doesnt know what to do with it. If I right click and go to open with word is not an option.     - how to keep spellcheck on dear all, windows xp pro sp2, office 2003 pro sp2, i have searched for solution to my situation but what i found was people wanting to turn-off spellcheck! i am writing a large document (at the moment, it is up to pages 290 with 1.5 spacing). the most odd thing happened today after i opened my document, instead of seeing sea of reds underlines when/where there is mis-spelling, there was none. the spellchecker icon at the bottom of the screen showed a cross so i know there is(are) mis-spelled words. i have clicked and un-clicked hide spelling error to turn the spellchecker back unsuccesfully. i would appreciate advice and/or suggestion on how to turn the spellcheker back on. contrary to a lot of the postings, i do find the spellchecker feature incredibly useful. thank you, jess Tag: Microsoft word and Excel Tag: 113962

    - Word prints Outline-View-only paragraph formatting to printer Hey Microsoft, this sure appears to be a bug to me. Don't have time to navigate your labyrinthine universe of websites to figure out a better place to report it. I send my outlined document (in which most paragraphs are Heading styles, thus forming an outline easily edited in Outline View) to my printer, and instead of printing with the correct paragraph formatting (that is, what Print Preview shows), it prints on paper with the paragraph formatting that's SUPPOSED to be only on-screen when in outline view (single-spaced, no hanging indent, left indent set artificially based on outline level).     - Valid product key won't work after update Hi. I have Office for Max v.X. I just updated so I would be able to open ".docx" files created on MS Office 2007, sent to me by a client. When I tried to reopen Word, I got a screen asking for name, company and key. It won't accept my key. I called Microsoft Tech Support and they confirmed my key was valid. But they won't help me because they no longer support this product (Office for Mac .X). Does any Mac genius out there know how I can open ".docx" files without buying Office 2004 -- which is about to be replaced by Office 2008?     - Word reinstalls each time you open it. I have a PC that has been locked down by a previous technician and it is locked down to the point that when you try to open Word it reinstalls itself. I've looked through the registry and can't see where to modify this. I've also looked through the group policy created and don't see where it could be changed there either.     - Word quitting Whenever I try to open a Word document for the first time after starting or restarting the computer (Mini Mac, OS 10.4.10), Word unexpectedly quits.     - Custom toolbars not saved; Adobe-related fix doesn't work Word 2003 (Pro) has stopped saving custom toolbars and toolbar locations. Every time I start it, I have to turn off the same toolbars and move them around to where I want them. The fixes that I have found, related to the Adobe 7.0 toolbar, don't work. For one thing, I have only ever had the free Reader and not full-blown Acrobat, so I've never had the toolbar installed in the first place. I had not made any changes to the software that I'm aware of, other than MS updates, before the problem started. Updating Adobe Reader itself did not resolve the problem. Holding down shift then going to "save all" doesn't seem to have any effect, either--although it saves normal.dot, the toolbars are still all over the place when I open Word again.     - I cannot type single line format in a document. Word has taken o While typing a legal document I was using a three line separation between the end of a paragraph and the succeeding "header". After a while, word began to insert a three-line break between each paragraph irrespective of insertion of a header. At this point I cannot reset the line spacing to single line. I enter single line in the format/paragraph area, but the space between lines in the document continues to be double at the least. Also, a tiny black square now appears at the left margin of each line. I don't know what I did to bring up this black square, but I cannot delete it and I think it has something to do with my inability to control the line spacing.     - e-mail signature I added a new e-mail account to my Microsoft Office Outlook, and changed word to the default editor, but now the e-mail signatures won't work. In the e-mail options box it says "select the signatures associated with" and has the new account's mail server in the drop down box. I think that's why it's not working.     - Excel 2007 crashes when opening a file I recently installed the trial version (hopefully, because paying that much money for a non-working software would have killed me) of MS Office Home & Student on my brand new laptop (Acer Aspire 5684, Vista Home Premium).     - Compute Statistics function fails to work I have a VBA macro that uses the ComputeStatistics method to calculate the page that a paragraph is on like so: Set myRng = myPara.Range myRng.Start = 0 intPage = myRng.ComputeStatistics(wdStatisticPages) and it works great for almost all the Word documents that I use it on, however I have one file that simply will not calculate the statistics on a Range (even the currently selected Range). In this file, the ComputeStatistics method always returns 0 for every statistic type in every range that I create. I tried adding the Word Count toolbar to the file and I noticed that the Word Count toolbar always shows the page or word count for the entire file - never for the current selection; wheras in other files the Word Count toolbar shows the statistics for the currently selected range. Does anyone know why the ComputeStatistics method would fail in a particular Word file? The files I'm working with have essentially got the same layout, they're based on the same template and use the same styles. I'm working in Word 2003 on Windows XP.     - Word only prints part of page On one document, Word only prints part of the page - the "Heading 1" heading and the bullets, but none of the other text whatever. It prints a couple of other documents just fine. I cut and pasted the text via Notepad into a new document. This printed OK until I format ed the heading as "Heading 1". Then this document too printed in the same messed-up way. I assumed the problem was a corrupt normal.dot. I'd had an error message about this a week or so ago, but no sign of any problem until now. So I deleted normal.dot and allowed Word to build a new one, which is all I thought I had to do to un-corrupt it. No joy, still prints only the heading and the bullets. I have spent hundreds of dollars on upgrades to no avail, and technical support people have never been able to help, even when I can understand their English. Now, the upgrade to Office 2007 trial version does not even offer support!     - Conflict with Word & Outlook I use Office Pro 2003 - If I open Word before I open Outlook, then the Word window opens fully in the screen. Sometimes though, when I close a file (not exit), Word closes entirely. (In this case, to create the WMF Iâ??m using Design Scienceâ??s MathType 6.0a) The problem manifests itself after the document has been saved and reopened. Clearly the cursor is using the bottom edge of the WMF bounding box as a reference point for the baseline following it. Since itâ??s entirely possible for a WMF to occupy more vertical space than the typical line height, this is not acceptable. To reproduce the problem: 1. Launch Word 2007 and type some text. 2. Insert any WMF (MathType or other) at the end of the text line. 3. Save and close the document. Then reopen it. 4. Place the cursor to the right of the WMF and begin typing. Note the baseline is now aligned with the WMF bottom boarder of the bounding box and more importantly, is now out of line with the text that precedes the WMF Additional information to consider: - This problem does not occur with versions of Word earlier than 2007 - This problem does not occur if the document was saved from 2007 to a pre-2007 format - This problem occurs with the inclusion of WMFs regardless of origin (Not just MathType) Iâ??m not looking for a quick fix per se; rather Iâ??d like to know what changed in 2007 to cause this? Note that this problem only manifests itself when adding third-party items to the QAT, not when adding Microsoft Wordâ??s ribbon elements to the QAT. Steps to reproduce the problem: It will be necessary to have any of the many third party add-ins installed. In this particular case, we are using our MathType 6.0a 1. Launch Word 2007 and open a pre-2007 file (.doc). 2. While viewing the .doc file, choose any of the buttons located under the MathType tab in the Word ribbon. Right-click it and choose, Add to Quick Access Toolbar. 3. Close Word. 4. Launch Word either from the Start menu or by double-clicking the original .doc file. 5. Note the item that was added to the Quick Access Toolbar doesnâ??t persist. It has been suggested that Word 2007 has the ability to save Quick Access Toolbar items either in the context of a specific document, or such that it is available in every session of Word.
