    - merging from Access timestamp question I have a database in Access that has a medium time stamp. No matter what I do, every time I merge it into Word it gives me a long time stamp and not the medium one. e.g I want 10:00 AM but instead I get 10:00:00 AM.     - MS Word - Indexing problem I don't know you folks and we don't know if you know the answer to this question, MS Word GURUS. It involves orphan index page numbers appearing in an MS Word index. We've tried to remove these entries and their corresponding XE tags, but the regenerated-updated index still picks up the old page numbers for the removed index item/entry and continues to display them in the "new" index. Is there a fix for this problem that perhaps involves a hidden file such as a concordance file? Does Word generate a hidden standard index file that contains a 2-column table for index entries and corresponding page numbers? If so, where is it so we can KILL it! If I open something written by someone else, the reviewing toolbar shows up. I can't find a way to prevent this behavior. Any ideas?     - Word 2003 Freezes I have Windows XP Orifessional and Office 2003 Professional, and Norton Antivirus 2004. When I work on a document in WORD 2003 and it's on a floppy disk, and I close the docment and remove the disk. and then go to file/ open to open up a document that's on the C drive.. the coumpter spins the A drive and keeps on spinning it and keeps clacking. I try to shut down WORD, but it won't close. Then I do the end task (It says Word is not responding) and it still won't close and the A drive keeps clacking and spinning. I have to shut down the whole computer in order to get it to stop. It never did this before. A window used to come up to tell me that there was no disk in the a drive, and now it doesn't come up at all. All it does is look for a disk and spin and make noise. I tried to do the repair and detect in WORD and that didn't help. Should I uninstall Office 2003 professional and reinstall it? This all started when my son was working on a Word document and he closed it and did file/open and the open box came up and he changed his mind and removed the disk and clicked cancel. The computer clacked and spinned the a drive until we had to shut down the computer. Did he break WORD? I have a new Dell 8400 computer. Please help me.     - Command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open After upgrading from Office 97 to Office 2003 I receive an error "Command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open" the first time I open a document by double clicking on it through explorer on a Win2k workstation (only happens the first time). Windows XP workstations do not produce this error message. In the background I can see where Word is asking for the username/Initials. I have to "End Task" to get it to clear and close. The document "is" in the folder I was trying to save it to, however; it is a lighter color icon, as if it is still open somewhere?     - What is "Smart UI 32-bits gateway - Reply I had the exact same thing with installation of a Xerox printer. After checking the whole thing out, I've noticed my Windows 2000 did NOT have the file "ntvdm.exe" in my winnt\system32 folder. Some trojan probably deleted it. I recovered the file from the winnt\dllcache folder (also recovered "autoexec.nt"). Simply search your entire HD for these 2 and copy them to the winnt\system32 folder. After the files where recovered, the problem disappeared. The problem occured since many propery sheets (like the printer settings) are implemented using this Smart UI library which is a 16-bit application. Since win2k is native 32-bit, the ntvdm (virtual dos machine) is needed to emulate a 16-bit environment for the execution.     - Problem pasting from Word to other applications I have Word 2002 as part of Works suite. Sometimes I can copy/paste within Word but cannot copy/paste to other applications, such as into a website in IE or Firefox. This is an intermittent problem. All will be well for a while then it occurs and continues. It seems it may affect one part of a document but not another. Sometimes I copy elsewhere and come back to the original problem area and it works. Sometimes the problem is cured by exiting and reopening Word, but sometimes not. Clues: - When looking in Paste Special, unformatted text may not be available, though this is not always so. - I use Clipmate. In the Clipmate title window I should see the text to be copied. In fact it says "Other:" followed by date and time. The tabbed type-windows available are RTF and HTML but not Text. Even these type-windows are empty. - The problem occurs even when not using Clipmate, so that does not seem to be the at the origin of the problem. - I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word. No help. - When the fault is about to happen the copy takes a little longer. I can tell this as when using Clipmate there is a beep on copying. When workin on a document, Word will randomly replace a paragraph with currupt tex somewhere in the document. It only seems to happen on files stored on our Server PC, and i happens on more than one computer. You're just typing along, and yo scroll up through the document to find that a paragraph or two are jus gone, replaced with junk. We have run anti-virus & Ad-aware sweeps on all PC's, they foun nothing. Do this over a shared network drive on a server running Server 2003. It hangs. and after say about 5 minutes or more it may resolve it self. The strange thing is that it seems to affect everybody on the network. Now I've checked patches, network, switches, cabling.... Nothing else is causing it. But when I remove SP2.. hey presto it works like a dream. I did some testing to see if I could resolve this with disabling firewall, installing SP3 for Office XP.. Still unable to get it to work with XP Pro SP2. So I now have removed SP2 from all workstations and I'm yet to receive any reports of it locking up. If there is a hotfix could you let me know. Sometimes in the past several weeks I wanted to "save as" Word 6.0/95 but now, even when I start a new document it will ONLY save as Word 6.0/95 even when I don't want it to and says hypertext won't be blue etc etc.... i can't get my Word 2000 SR-1 software to open becuase error message stating
that an error occurred and needs to report the error to the Microsoft Server
or Database, i installed my Word software through the Microsoft Works Suite
and never had a problem with the software not been able to open and do work
on, how do i fix this problem please send me advice to help resolve this
issue in order to use my Word software again, thank you!
