 - InsertGraphicalHorizontalLine doesn't work. Hi, posted the problem in parent Word Newsgroup but no effective solution was found. When clicking INSERT LINE at the bottom or Borders and Shades screen from Format menu, instead to open the (fancy) lines list screen, it opens the Insert Picture screen. If launching the InsertGraphicalHorizontalLine command (after inserting it at any menu) it also launch the Insert Picture screen instead. There is no other InsertGraphicalHorizontalLine macro anywhere that could be hijacking the command. The .gif fancy lines images are there in a subdirectory along with the lines.dll, that was also copy from a working machine just to make sure.  - attached files can't be opened We are running Word 2002 on Windows XP (Home). Attached files saved as Word .doc (and copy received OK by sender ) come with "scrambled" letters and can't be opened (are read as .dat with a systems danger warning). The work around is to save the file in Word, re-name to .doc - this restores the file. I don't know the sender's version of Word but it came on a recently purchased laptop.  - Word 2003 File Page Setup hangs I run Win XP Pro with 3 user accounts. Word 2003 runs fine on 2 accounts, but on the third, the program hangs every time I click on the Page Setup command in the File drop-down.  - Word section breaks Hi all Bit of a problem that's driving me insane. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am formatting a 7 page document and on the last 2 pages i need to make the page margins bigger, and to do that i put in a section break at the end of page 5. When i put the section break in the document page numbers increase to 8 and the footer auto page number also jumps from page 5 to 7. I have tried everything i and all my colleagues knows to no avail. I have tried all the new, odd, even, continuous break options, i have also tried highlighting the text and applying new page margins to selected text only. Anyone out there with any ideas???  - Getting error when try open files in all the Office 2003 When I try to open files in Office 2003 applications, I get an Open Not Responding message and about 3-4 minutes later the file finally opens.  - Buffer overrun detected when merging documents and adresses I have made a new Windows XP and office 2003 installation. When i try to merge documents and adresses i get and error window with the header: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library It says Buffer overrun detected A buffer overrun has been detected wich has corrupted the program's internal state. the program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.  - A Word doc crashes my word! In the last few days when I open a certain word doc. it freezes word! I don't even have a chance to try and repair the doc. I don't recall doing anything in specific to damage that doc, I just add and paste stuff there and have many important data I would hate to lose. I use Win XP; Office XP and microsoft word 2002.  - word 2000 crashes computer for one user only I'm running windows XP Home w/ SP2 updated through Microsoft to current standards. Trying to run Word 2000 from Office 2000 SBE updated through Microsoft to currents standards. Three users are on my home computer. Two users have successful access to Word and have no problem using the program; the third user cannot access Word and starting Word for this user either produces an error message that Word needs to shutdown, or a blue screen error that restarts the computer.  - Opening Word '03 files in Word 2000 Are there any known problems with backwards compatiblity between Word 2003 and Word 2000? I am using Word 2003 have been e-mailing .doc files to someone running XP with Office 2000 and for some reason she cannot open the files at all. When she to open them, Word gives her a message that she is trying to open a Corel Wordperfect document and it can't import that file type. This person is not local to me, so I'm doing my best to problem-solve on her behalf. So far, she is the only person who is having this problem with the files I send, and I do send a lot of files to other people.  - Blank doc shows - yet print and text boxes show on print preview?? Wonder if anyone knows how to overcome this. I have opened a template document in Word2003 and none of the text or text boxes is showing. However if i go to print preview I can see the entire document.  - Embedded Excel file reading as corrupt (but isn't) I embedded an Excel file in a Word document, as I've done many times before. I can double-click and view the file fine, but two colleagues can't. They have been able to open embedded objects in other documents, including ones from me. I recreated the Excel file, resaved, and re-embedded it -- still no luck. The error message they get indicates the file can't be opened. They're asked if they would like to have Microsoft repair the problem.  - Word/Outlook/Excel Freezes after long time idle. Hi All, We are running the above on Terminal Server/Citrix PS4. We have an annoying issue where (seemingly) at random, peoples sessions go into high CPU utilisation when running Word and/or Excel and/or Outlook and/or IE and even sometime Acrobat.exe. I have noticed that this most frequently happens where the user has been away from their desk for 20+ minutes and their session is idle. As soon as they access any of those idle applications, away it goes. Usually its 2 applications going wild at once, both with around 40-50% CPU each. Sometimes CPU Management will contain that useage thereby limiting the carnage, but quite often it doesnt and sends the whole server into la la land. When we manage to kill one of the offending processes, the 'other' one takes over at 100% - so both have to be killed and sometimes a third. I am running: Windows 2003 SP1 Citrix PS4 Enterprise+Rollup Office 2003 SP1 I have not been able to find any errors in event logs or any other evidence as to what is going on, nor have I been able to replicate it (aside from fluke).  - TAB does not advance fields in Forms I have created a simple Form in Word 2002, without using any macros other than TextForm fields and Formula fields with simple calculations, and Calculate on Exit selected. The Form is password protected. Most users have no problems using it. One user, with Word 2003, says that TAB does not advance to the next field. Consequently, none of the calculations work, and the form is not useable. Any ideas why TAB would not advance to the subsequent fields? Could it be something in the Form, or in his system?  - Word won't let me delete some documents In "open files", I sometimes have trouble deleting documents. I will select the file name, then hit "delete". Word tells me that the file is in use by another person or program. However, it isn't. If I close Word, then open it again, I can now delete the document, but then will have trouble with another document.  - meaningless RunTime Error 5 I developed "customer support software" for my company with VBasic6.0 SP3, its work with Sql2K and CrystalReport8. i have problem on RunTime subjects.  - Error Message - unclear I'm unable to use MS Office help online or follow internet links in Word documents, but everything else about my internet works great. I've looked all over for information on how to fix this - I've read almost all the newsgroup threads, checked the help website, etc., so I hope someone here can help me! In word, when I click on a web address with a hyperlink, I receive the message: "Unable to open [website]. Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server." Then, when I hit F1 (Help), and search for a phrase, I get a list of offline help topics, with an error that says, "Unable to connect to Microsoft Office Online." If I click on any of the listed results, I get a window with a large red "X" button that says, "Error Starting MS Help." (I CAN, however, click on "Connect to Microsoft Office Online" in the "Getting Started" window, and Internet Explorer opens up the page just fine.) The point is that this is a rotten default setting. Didn't somebody on the Human factors side do a usability test? Users make lists more often than they will do. If the counter-argument is that the "AutoList" feature should be the preferred way of making lists, you are still wrong. Users will make lists within the text of a paragraph more often than needing to do the copyright symbol. For example, "This feature is: (a) ill-conceived, (b) not thoroughly user-tested, and (c) far from obvious on how to turn it off. Therefore it is poor design." While this may be a good setting, it is not a good default setting and it detracts from the overall utility of AutoCorrect. Finally, I strongly urge against having "Clippy" warn the user about the AutoCorrect (c) to Â© as a solution to the usability issue.  - Word 2003 table indentation problem I'm running Word 2003 (without any service packs) on a Windows XP Pro SP2 system. My document is currently 97 pages long, with a number of tables on certain pages. My problem is, that for no reason whatsoever, Word decided to change the left indentation of all the tables in my document so that all of them are 0.85cm indented. I can solve the problem by highlighting the table and selecting Format>Paragraph and changing the "Left" box under the heading Indentation back to 0. However, this is very long winded due to the size of my document and the amount of tables I have in it. Does anyone know why this has happened?  - word crash Hi As soon as I try to start Word an error message apears and displays that "Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to sucessfully start the program. Some functionally may be disabled in this mode." I looked in the Startup folder and nothing shows up. Or I might be looking in the wrong folder. Also I tried to search for the Normal.dot file but I could not find it either. I have deleted all my printer servers and unchecked the Norton anti-virus that dels with Office. I am really stuck and I have tried everything. Can some one please help me. Thanks.  - program asso. w/ the selected template cannot be started Whenever I click on START, ALL PROGRAMS, NEW OFFICE DOCUMENT, and then select BLANK DOCUMENT, I receive the following error message: "The program associated with the selected template cannot be started, or the program cannot use the selected template." There is nothing in either of the STARTUP locations that MS Word uses and I have run the Detect and Repair utility under Word's Help menu checking off both "Restore my shortcuts..." and "Discard my customized settings..." twice. I have also tried deleting the NORMAL.DOT file. All this has been to no avail, the problem persists.  - Text Boxes not showing text inside on print Word 2002 In Word 2002 (XP) we are using rtf files and using text boxes inside of these files.  - Word 2003 - Print dialogue box - slow When printing from Word 2003 it takes roughly 2 minutes for the list of printers to display. We have 400+ printers installed (due to a large terminal server environment) The problem is reproducable on a non-terminal server environment using fully patched Windows 2000 and Windows 2003. I have tried Word 2003, Word 2003 SP1 and Word 2003 SP2 spoolsv.exe and winword.exe reach high cpu usage ONLY when waiting for the print dialogue box to open. Monitoring with regmon, Winword is trawling through the registry in some odd areas. If I print using the default printer by clicking printing from the toolbar the document prints. No other applications such as Excel, powerpoint, notepad etc have problems, each displaying the dialogue box immediatly (even with 400+ printers installed) Any thoughts? Thanks, Duncan.  - Generated Event ID 1000 while editing Word Files Dear All, I have a couple of files that are behaved in such a strange manner: When I open any file (Using Word 2003 sp2 over XP sp2) and while editing it, it hang for a second and then closed asking to send the error report to MS. I checked the event viewer - application area- and found event ID 1000 is generated with the following details: ""Faulting application winword.exe, version 11.0.6568.0, stamp 42e178a5, faulting module msgrar32.dll, version 1.0.0.201, stamp 3e259a9f, debug? 0, fault address 0x0003feb7.  - How can I get back a missing option under Format? I've suddenly lost the Paragraph option on the Format option. What can I do to get it back? I've tried repairing the program with no luck. The only way I can see the Paragraph option is by right-clicking on the text, but that's very time consuming. Word won't recognize the keystroke entries either for Format > Paragraph.  - Error connecting to Excel Worksheet Hi! I got a Word (XP) document with an inserted Excel worksheet. Usually after a double click I could edit the worksheet. A few days ago after a after the double click this message appears: "The object is damaged or no longer available". (I'm translating the message from Portuguese, so I'm not sure if in the English version it would look exactly like this).  - WINWORD.EXE generates error log when Tools menu is clicked All suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated - (using Office 2000 Professional) when a WORD.doc is open and when clicking on the tools menu (left click) the message "WINWORD.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by windows....You will need to restart the program.......An error log is being created" message appears after which the opened WORD.doc is immediately closed without any chance to save. I believe I noticed this problem after installing Norton System Works 2006 about 30 days ago. Have run several registry repair programs including latest PC Tools version and problem remains.  - Word 2000: SHIFT+TAB does not decrease indent In other applications on my XP Pro SP1 machine, SHIFT+TAB decreases the tab indentation, as expected. Insertion pointer hops one tab to the left. So the keyboard appears to be working. However, on Word 2000, SHIFT+Tab tabs to the right. This is the behavior regardless of whether I check or uncheck Tools-Options->Edit "Tabs and backspace set left indent".  - Application Crashes on Document.SaveAs Method Hi, when i am using the Document.SaveAs Method, as follows call oDoc.SaveAs(FilePath) it crashes the Application, the OLD GPF Error. (in XP - send, don't send Buttons Error) it happens only with the Office Version 2000 and Office XP (2002) with OS as XP Pro (sp2) with Office 2003 the Code works fine on any OS (Win2000 / XP). I have a document that I recently received from Mexico and everytime I open
it crahses if left idle or if I interact with the actual document. No other
documents have ever done this, nor do they now. It is not a problem on any
other computers. Any ideas?

If you have Word 2002/2003, try Open and Repair.
