    - After last Office update Word 2007 just disappears After the last update, Word 2007 no longer lets me insert addresses into labels or envelopes from my Contacts address book.     - Numbered lists in Word 2003 SP3 Problem: with a Word Doc apparently created in Word2k3 SP1, it looses its numbers when opened in Word2k3 SP3. This has large problem potential accross the corporate environment where we have large numbers of documents created in various service pack versions. Still trying to acertain the factors, but seems Office SP3 related as only PC's with this service pack have the issue. Any further info on what in SP3 is making this occur? A workaround seems to be to re-select Outined Number list under bullets and numbering. Can I check the Word version a document is created in, including service pack?     - help with labels hi i have a simple excel sheet containg about 100 names & addresses which I have used yearly to mail merge in word to print labels ( 21 per sheet). I have never had any problems in the past but this tear everytime I complete the mail merge it only shows the first sheet 21 labels. At the bottom it also says Page 1/1. Obviously there should be five sheets. This is driving me nuts. The excel sheet is just the standard one I have used every year. - NAME, ADDRESS1, ADDRESS2 etc along the first row.     - Word 200 hangs after SP1 Running Office 2007 on Vista (latest patches, though not Vista SP1 RC). After installing Office 2007 SP1, Word hangs when I try to use it. It runs a few seconds and then hangs I've renamee normal.dotm - no difference I've also ran 'winword.exe /a' - no difference What did help was creating a new user, logging in as that user.     - Word 2007 opens but allows no functionality, crashes on closing When I open Word 2007 using Vista, I can type on the page, but the scroll bars are frozen, and no other functionality is available. I cannot move the cursor on the page, change font etc. On closing, the message is "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working" followed by "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." Then the program restarts in an endless cycle of crashing and restarting. I have removed and reinstalled the program to no avail. PowerPoint and Outlook work fine.     - Suppressing author field in citation suppresses title as well I've been working with Word 2007 to do MLA citations. When I have two or more sources from the same author and choose to supress the author's name in a citation generated by the system, the title entry is also automatically supressed.     - Word 2007 Docx Missing/Reverted to Old Version - New one missing! I've been working on this paper in Word 2007 (docx), and today I find that the file is gone, and is replaced by an older version of the document (from 3 days ago) which means that all the work I've done is gone, without the tables I spent a full day creating! Its no longer 4300 words but back down to 2800 - with no tables. I always save to the hard drive, and at 4000 words I even saved it as a PDF so I could get my husband to print it off from work before he came home so I could edit it on a hard copy. This PDF at least has some of the tables (about 1/4th) and for the amount of work I've apparently lost - the PDF is in between my latest (lost) version, and the draft that I am now stuck with. Whats strange is that I opened this file last night to read over my tables, just to read - no changes made. It looked as it should have been. When I finished reading it, I simply closed it. And this afternoon its back to the draft. I've run through the file locator tricks from the MSN site on recovering lost files, but the file I need is gone. I've run through the System Restore and brought the computer back to the state it was in yesterday, and even the day before, but the file still shows up as the draft. How can it be that I work on this document, consistantly save my changes, even save it as a PDF mid way, can read through it last night - what it should still be today, did not save it under a different file name - and not be able to find it at all today? I read through Ed's post earlier on his lost docx and feel the same thing sorta happened. The last time I worked on the document was December 12th around 10pm Pacific time, and read through it on December 13th in the late afternoon. Today it is gone. Tag: Links not updating Tag: 116430

    - printer has not yet responded, but the microsoft office I have several users that are receiving this error when opening WORD. "The printer has not yet responded, but the MS office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?" when opening Word. If you click No, you can get Word open, but when you click File, Print, the printer name field is blank, but if you click the drop down, all the installed printers are listed.     - Cursor jumps all over the place Hello, I am having problems typing in MS Word, in MS OE, or just about anywhere I type. The cursor will jump all around the document. While typing this message it will jump from the message area to the subject area, or it will jump around within a document, from one section of the document to another.     - Word 2007 Redraw Problems Hello. I currently have the 2007 version of Word, and I am encountering frequent redraw problems on my documents, particularly with a layout that I am using. Whenever I manipulate text on the 2nd page onwards, the distorted fragments of text will appear, then I would have to scroll away and back again to 'refresh' and see the changes made. This problem only occurs in Word 2007. Please offer solutions to this issue.     - Error sending document as PDF attachment from Sharepoint I'm using Office Word 2007 Enterprise with the PDF/XPS plugin installed. I'm opening a document from Sharepoint and after editing it I try to send is as a PDF (using Office Outlook 2007)to an e-mail recipient. Before the Outlok dialog appears I receive an error message: Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure: "Attachment open failure" As far as I can see this only happens when opening a document from Sharepoint.     - Outline Level Changed to Level 1 Windows XP Office 2003 I have a document in which certain paragraphs keep getting reset to Outline level: Level 1 in the Paragraph window. Something seems to be encoded in the paragraph marks, but I can't remove it nohow. Only certain paragraphs show this behavior; they are of various styles and other paragraphs of the same style don't show the behavior. I can reset the paragraphs to Outline level: Body text by reapplying the paragraph style and selecting Reapply the formatting ... in the Modify Style window. I can also use the Clear Formatting command. I can even replace a paragraph by starting it in the line above, which is a "good" paragraph. I can even delete the "bad" paragraph as well as the good ones above and below it. I can delete the style from the doc then copy the style from the template back in. All to no avail. As soon as I close the doc and reopen it, the bad paragraph's outline level has been reset to Level 1. The only remedy that I'm aware of is saving the entire doc as ASCII text then reapplying all the styles. Anyone have a notion of how I can avoid that? = Mike Tag: Links not updating Tag: 116395

    - why is my word docx being deleted? I'm using Word 2007 and as of 2 days ago it is behaving strangely. I have a large .docx which I save as normal. After typing for some time I find that its name havs changed to ~~fgy.tmp or similar, and more to the point THE ORIGINAL SAVED DOC HAS DISSAPEARED!!!!     - Word Freezes Trying to Open Documents & Says "Running virus scan.. All of a sudden, my company is having a very strange problem with Microsoft Word that prevents us from accessing most of our Word documents. As we have many important documents in Word, this is a critical issue for us. The problem is that when users try to open certain files, Word freezes with the message "Running virus scan..." in the status bar. The user must use Task Manager or click the "X" to close the window and choose "End Now" to eventually exit Word. The problem began with one user on 12/11/07, but since then several other users have noticed the problem. (We have about 15 users total, and I don't know about the other ones yet.) The problem doesn't happen on all files, but it happens on a large majority of them. Some files are old (from 2006 and earlier) and others were created in the last few days. We've had the problem with files on the file server and with e-mail attachments. Although most local files open without issue, if we move a problem file to a local drive, we still can't open it. It seems to be related to particular files so the problem occurs on different workstations when trying to open a particular file. However, I am able to open the "problem" files on one of my own two workstations without trouble. We are on a domain with a Windows Small Business Server 2003 domain controller and a separate Windows Server 2003 file server. All workstations are Windows XP SP2, and all are using Office 2003 SP3. All machines have most of the latest updates, etc. Some other facts: - We do not use and have never used Norton Antivirus. - We do not use EndNote. - We've tried restarting our servers and workstations. - We use NOD32 Antivirus. I completely disabled this on one of the computers, but it still has the problem, and in fact, still says "Running virus scan...". - I've tried running a repair on Office on one of the comptuers, but this did not resolve the issue. - I've examined the various Windows and Office updates applied to my machine that works versus the ones that are having problems. I haven't found anything to this point that is unique to one or the other. - The problem persists even when starting Word with "/safe" or "/a" switches. - I've tried using Word "/unregserver" and "/regserver" switches to re-register. This has had no effect. - There is nothing in either of these directories: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\STARTUP C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP - We've recreated Normal.dot for a couple of users, but the problem persists. - We can open the documents using WordPad without any problems. If the document is then saved from WordPad (in RTF format), we can then open the document from Word. The strangest part is how it just suddenly began to happen. We hadn't done any kind of upgrades or made changes, and some of the workstations (notebooks) had not been connected to the network in a while and did not get the latest Windows updates from our server.     - Word 2007 not opening after SP1 Having an issue with word after installing the SP1 bits. WHen i double click a document in one of my folders the doc will not open but a word.exe process shows up in my Task List. Event ID's 7001, 7002 and 7003 indicating Winword.exe fault are in my event logs but there is now indicator to the issue via the message. Other symptoms: I can open a fresh word docuemt and from there i can click open and select any of my existing word documents and they open fine.... Scroll bar does not work and clicking the Orb and going to Word options only allow me to look at the "popular" settings.. all other settings will not function or are not responsive to mouse over. This was all working fine until SP1. I uninstalled Office Ultimate and did a shut down and reinstall and the symptoms are still present without SP1. I tried to rename normal.dotm then reopen word to create a new instance but this also did not work. I also changed the file association to open with notepad.... then switched it back to Word and again no success. Im stumped.. anyone have any idea or see this before?     - EmailMerge - more than one address in the email field creates erro In my email merge my data source has a field I create from three different email fields - if the record has a value in email1, add it to [email] field, if the record has a value in email2, add it to [email] field, etc. The emails are separated w/ semicolons. In my mailmerge, I enter the [email] field in the Merge to Email Dialog box. If there is more than one address in the [email] field I get the following message: Microsoft Office Outlook does not recognize 'jane@foobar.com; jane@barfoo.com' Select the address to use (box w/ no selections) We're running Exchange server and Microsoft Office 2003, SP2.     - embedded objects gets displayed as {EMBED Package} When I switch from Reading Layout to Normal/Print Layout all the links (Hyperlinks, embedded objects etc) are changing to texts like {HYPERLINK "http://devas01:8877/view/main_UX/find_changes.php"} {EMBED Package} I tried repairing MS Word and as a final solution, even reinstalled the entire MS Office 2003 package.     - How do I unlock Word administrative website link restrictions? I am a Vista Ultimate user. I have been unable to follow website links in Word 2007, that are inserted in documents. I have checked all of my seatings including administrative, and have found no errors. My firewall programs do not show any errors. I have turned off all programs that may restrict Word. including firewalls, these are Norton Internet Security, Windows Firewall, and Webroot SpySweeper, with no success. My computer shows that there are no errors , or spyware currently with my operating system, control panel, or it's software. I have updated to the New Service Pack 1 version Today with no success of resolving this problem. I have even tried to totally uninstall Office 2007 Professional, and then reinstall it with no success. If anybody has a resolution to this problem, please let me know, thanks.     - Stop Error when printing Word docs w/ embedded Visio Hi there, I have come across a very peculiar problem, and haven't been able to find anything on google nor MSFT resources on it. Users are getting a 0x0000007F stop error (Kernel Mismatch) when they try to print Word documents that have Visio diagrams embedded on Windows XP Pro SP2. The stop error happens on machines with Office 2007 SMB Edition as well as on machines with Office 2003 Professional. It may be important to note that the diagrams are out of Visio 2007. We don't have Visio 2003, so I haven't been able to test if embeded Visio 2003 diagrams cause the stop error as well. I have ruled out print drivers as this happens with the following print drivers installed: HP Laserjet 1320, Xerox Phaser 8560, and Brother MFC 7820N. I have successfully replicated this problem on VMs running in Virtual Server 2005 R2 with any one of those drivers installed. The current workaround is to export to PDF and then print the PDF.     - Text deleted by file converter Ok, I went to open a document I worked very hard on last night, in Microsoft Word 2003, and it said it needed to convert the file, so I just clicked ok like I usually do when something pops up like that. I admit I didn't really read it because I was eager to start work on it again and thought no matter what I clicked I would have a problem. Now I open the document and there is no text.     - MS Office 97 Pro Edition - Word & Uninstall Problem l have had MS Office 97 Professional Edition installed on my current pc (which has a Vista OS) for the last 9 months. However, I can no longer print Word documents. I have tested my printer and that still prints ok on any other type of document. I can also still print Word docs from Office 97 on my old pc (ME OS), so I'm sure the original install disk is not damaged. I have therefore tried to uninstall and reinstall MS Office 97, but when trying to do this using my original disk and CD code; it does not let me get into the menu that normally allows you select which Office programs you want to deinstall/reinstall. Instead it prompts you to install the whole office suite again. So I tried to installing the whole suite to see if this would work, but at the end of the installation it comes up with the following message. Setup parse error in initialize pass object ID 11005 RegoleAu CAH: oledlregisterserver call failed. The only thing I have done recently that may/may not have caused this was to delete all files in the termporary folder within Windows. I'm really stuck with this and would very much appreciate any help that someone out there could give me. I'm not that technically minded though so I need all the help I can get.     - THe Office Open XML file...cannot be opened Word 2007 WinXP Pro I've got a really scary problem. An important file that I've worked all day on can't open all of a sudden. When I try to open here's the message: THe Office Open XML file XXX.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents. When I take the option to display details it says: Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column 91482. I've tried all the suggestions in Dawn Crosier's response to a similar problem dated 10/2/2007, but I get the same result--either nothing or just gibberish. Have I just lost all my data? Windows is trying to recover your information" - the window changes to...""Microsoft Office Word has stopped working. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution - it freezes there so that the "Close Program button must be clicked. Then a window appears with the full path and says the file cannot be found. Try typing it in again correctly - although nothing was ever typed in. ** I do have 2 addins - ScanSoft PDF Create and ACT! 7.0. I renamed the scansoftpdf.dot file and it created a new one. ** This is a new machine with Windows Ultimate and Office 2007 - it was not an upgraded system. ** I did install the compatibility pack or whatever it is as we do access several Word 97-03 documents/files. SOLUTIONS TRIED PER OTHER MSGS ON THIS BOARD TO NO AVAIL: 1. Corrupted Normal.dotm and/or Normal.dot. Rename them as oldnormal.dotm/oldnormal.dot. (When upgrading to Word 2007, it reads and uses an exsiting normal.dot, and creates normal.dotm.) You might need to display hidden files/folders. In Vista on my machine, normal.dot? is located here: C:\Users\Herb\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates **** Renamed both 2. Corrupted Word Data registry key. Rename or delete: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options *** Deleted both 3. Corrupted Windows user profile (gulp). Try creating a new Windows user and see if the new user experiences the same problems. *** Created another user/admin and still have problem. 4. Tried winword.exe /a and it loaded but did not fix the problem. 5. There are no files in the Word Startup directory. 6. The network printer drivers are installed on the hard drive. 7.     - Problem opening Word 2003 file - depending on network environment? Hi, A local file that I use on my laptop at work (which is connected to our office LAN) won't open (Word just hangs) when I bring my laptop home and connect to my wireless network. The same file opens with no problem on my home PC. I have Office 2003 installed on both. Thinking that there may be some problems with linked files I tried an experiment: I selected all data (Ctrl+A) in the file, deleted everything, and saved the file under a different name. I was still not able to open the file on my work laptop when at home. I then saved the file as Word "1997-03 &6.0/95 - RTF". I was then able to open the file on my work laptop at home. Then things got even wierder - I then saved the open file on my laptop as .doc again - but when I closed it, I was again unable to open it again!!     - Uninstalling Works '07 also removed Word '03 I used a trial version of Microsoft Works '07 and eventually decided I didn't want to spend the money just yet. Following the expiration of the trial period, I uninstalled the '07 product so that it wouldn't take up space on my hard drive. Unfortunately, it appears to have also removed Word '03, which I use constantly. My hands have been tied for 3 days, and I've tried everything -- including resetting my computer to a previous date.     - Word 2003 Displays 'Lozenges' for characters on opening Word 2000 On new computer used Word 2003 Trial version. It expired. Word documents opened from my old system (Word 2000) displayed lozenges or squares for each character. Ordered and installed new Office 2003 Student & Teacher by loading key. Word still displays the small squares for documents coming from Word 2000 in either a document saved as .doc or .rtf. Documents created on new system with 2003 are fine.     - Error when closing Word 2007 and HP drivers Hi, I know how to prevent error message when closing Word 2007 with HP drivers. I only have to dont set printer HP as default printer. Hp does't have others solutions for the photosmart Hp printer. Now I have to select manualy the right printer when I want to print something with my computer.     - MS Office 97 Professional Edition-Word Print & Uninstall/Install P I have MS office 97 professional, which has been running fine on my Vista PC, until recently. It now won't let me print any word files. It appears to send the file to the printer and then shows the file being deleated on the print monitor. I have tested the printer (Brother MFC-620 CN) with a test print page and it works ok and also prints other documents such as works. I have tried to deinstall and reinstall using my original disk with the CD code which is recognised properly, but it doesn't find currently installed Office programmes and then prompts me to install the whole office suite again instead of allowing me to uninstall first. At then end of the reinstallation it comes up with the following error message. Setup parse error in initialize pass object ID 11005 regoleAu CAH: oledlregisterserver call failed The only thing I have done recently that may or may not have anything to do with this problem, is to delete all files from my Temp folder in Windows.     - broken display of hyperlinks and page numbers A few weeks ago, my Word application began misbehaving and I have not been able to figure out how to fix the problem. In the past, when I typed in a web address, such as www.google.com in a Word document, Word would display the link in a blue color and underlined (I believe), and then if I clicked on the link, it would launch a browser. Now, when I type in an address such as www.google.com and hit return, the display reads {HYPERLINK "http://www.google.com"} and the browser autolaunch no longer works. This also effects other references, such as page numbers. This is driving me crazy because it messes up many of my documents. WHat is the fix for this? Hello all,

I'm using Word and Excel 2007 on Windows XP. I've created links to the
Excel document from Word. When I open the document and it prompts me if I
want to update links, I choose Yes, but the links do not update. If I go
into the Links... screen (the one that shows the Source File, item, etc), and
click Update Now, the link also doesn't update. However, if I click inside
the field and press F9, the link does update. The fields aren't locked and
they are set to auto update, so I'm not sure why the only way to make them
update is by pressing F9. Please help!
