    - Word features seem to be locked I have Office Professional Plus installed on my laptop and on my desktop. On my laptop I can not use the right mouse button to bring up the menu. (No, it is not a mouse issue all other applications work fine even word on my desktop). I can not highlight any text. I also can not access the tools (word option) from the office button. It comes up but I can not access other tabs, Display, Proofing, save ect.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, used the repair, even used a different version (Student) nothing seems to correct it.     - Autoformat paragraph line end removal no longer working Hi. Word 2000 XP SP2. I download text files ( books from Gutenberg) that always contain paragraph signs at the end of each line. In the past I have just run autoformat and these have been removed - as in para 3 of "cleaning up text pasted from the Web" - and this is enough to clean up the text for subsequent line justification and reading. For some reason this no longer works. I have re-installed Word 2000 on a Vista Premium laptop but same result. I know I could use find/replace but this is obviously much more time consuming.     - Can't close Word 2007 Whenever I try to exit Word 2007 I get a message that Wor has stopped working and is searching for a solution. The the message "A problem caused the progeam to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" The 'solution' states that "The problem was caused by Microsoft office system software" and refers me to an update that I have already installed and a diagnosis tool I have already tried.     - Microsoft Word Template Corruption? I do not know how to go about fixing template corruption in microsoft word. I have had problems starting up Microsoft word and when I started it up with the command prompt Run > winword.exe /a it worked fine. If I try opening word files by just clicking on them they still dont open, they only open with the Run > winword.exe /a method. I assume that I need to address my Word template corruption problem. I read the article by Graham Mayor that is on the Word MVP site and I have done everything it suggested yet I does not give me a good idea of how to go about fixing template corruption and how to "rename" my normal template. If anyone can refer me to a site that explains how to do this with a little more clarity or if you can explain it better yourself I would greatly appreciate it. Below is what I was reading in the article by Graham Mayor on the Word MVP site. ____________________________________________________________________ If Word crashes as soon as it opens ... It is most likely to be due to template corruption. To verify whether this is the case, start Word without templates and add-ins loaded, to see whether it still crashes: to do this, click the Start button in the bottom left of your screen, select Run, and type winword.exe /a. (You may need to specify the full path although you probably won't.) Note the space before the forward slash! If you miss out that space, you'll get an error message such as: â??Cannot find the file â??winword.exe/aâ?? or one of its componentsâ??. The /a switch is intended as a troubleshooting tool only, and you shouldn't continue to use it to start Word. Any customisations you make while in this mode will be discarded. If that fixes it, either your Normal template or one of the files in Word's Startup path are probably corrupt, so the next steps to try are: Try renaming your Normal template (with Word and Outlook closed â?? and if you have opened a Word document within Internet Explorer, close IE too). Note that the normal template for Word 2007 is normal.dotx or normal.dotm For instance, try renaming Normal.dot to Normal.old â?? and make sure you only have one Normal.dot file.     - Here's a strange one: Document causes WORD to run 100% of CPU! Hello, This problem developed 2-3 days ago. I use this document every day to save Chinese and English translations from a web site. This document is about 14 pages, 100KB, with no special format, stylesheet, graphics, macro whatsoever, just plain text in English and Chinese characters (SimSun font). Two days ago I noticed WORD was running at 97% of CPU. EVERY TIME I open this document it happens. It ONLY DOES IT WITH THIS PARTICULAR DOCUMENT. When the document is open WORD runs at 9-10MB. I checked and removed a few hyperlinks that it had, same problem. I moved/saved the text into another file, same problem. I checked it for viruses, nothing. There is something corrupted in this document and I can't see what it is! Please help with any suggestions, as I use this document every day! Thank you!     - Detect and Repair I have Office 2003 and loaded the trial version of 2007 onto my computer, I have since uninstalled the trial version and now can not get office 2003 to work correctly. From the Word help menu I did a Detect and Repair with and without choosing the Discard my customized settings and restore default settings option.     - Hyperlink to wprd or excel documents dont work I have a simple aspx page with 2 links, one to a word 2007 document and another to an excel 2007 worksheet. Both dont work, I get a page not found error. when I right click and try to save the target, from the link, I get another error saying that the requested file doesnt exist.     - keyboard shortcut to toggle windows inexplicably stopped working I have Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac. I frequently have multiple documents/windows open at once. I use the Command+` feature to toggle through the open windows. That feature is now no longer working in Microsoft Word, though it still works for me in Excel. I know it's not a problem with the system more broadly, but something gone haywire in Word itself. Any suggestions about what got inexplicably turned off?     - Starnge formatting anomaly when saving a doc I have a customer with a strange occurance when she saves a doc. The system is running XP Pro SP2, lots of RAM and HD space. There is no AV software installed on this system, as it has no contact with the outside world at all. Her Word 2000 is the original release, I believe, with a version number 9.0.2720. Her docs are used in legal realms so she has full justification on. We tried changing that, but it did not change the problem. We cannot make the issue happen all the time, but at least 2 of her current docs have this issue. Here it is, as best I can format for newgroups. Basically she has several indented paragraphs with the usual kind of layout; 9. Blah Blah Blah... 1. Blah Blah Blah... (a) Blah Blah Blah... (b) Blah Blah Blah... (c) Blah Blah Blah... (d) Blah Blah Blah... And so on... Now when she saves the doc and reopens it, it has been changed and looks like so; 9. Blah Blah Blah... 1. Blah Blah Blah... (a) Blah Blah Blah... (b) Blah Blah Blah... (q) Blah Blah Blah... (d) Blah Blah Blah... The (q) is not a typo, nor are the extra spaces after it. Word actually changes the doc on save or loading to look like it does. There are about 25 items that get changed and reformatted, so it makes it hard for her to keep and reuse the docs later on. If she prints before she saves, the output is ok. There is no way to see the doc as it was after it is saved. It is permanently altered, which is why I think it happens on the save routine. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, - Tim - p.s. As I send an error report, EVERY TIME, I get a message that says a DIFFERENT tmp. file can not be found and that I should try to find and copy it and save it somewhere else.     - Word gives hour glass too much Hi, I've recently installed Office 2007. I've found when a document is open it will show the hour glass on the screen every 5 to 15 seconds, which pauses the entire application for 3 to 5 seconds I've tried shutting down my antivirus and starting up Word safe mode, which I saw in a previous thread. I checked the auto save option and it is set to every 10 minutes. This is basically make the application useless as it is so painful to type anything. Does anyone have any ideas?     - Macro Error in Office 2007 Word I have a machine that has been running Office 07 Pro for a year and then yesterday it started giving an alert message box about macros. The files I am trying to open have no macros in them (if they do I didn't create them). They are simple text documents. I have searched every know website for a solution but can't find one. I have changed every setting in the "Trust Settings" and I still get the same dialogue box. I can click several times and the message finally goes away and the document opens just fine. The problem is within word itself and not the files. I created a new document from Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Word 2007. I still get the same error message. I printed one of the error messages and it has a number at the top of the page which is "Office_201099_Q0", whatever that means. I used the builtin repair application and it found no errors. This is really annoying getting this macro error mesage when there are no macros running.     - Word 2007 Clipboard--only able to capture 2 screen prints When I am in Word 2007, I am only able to capture 2 screen prints. Then the system will tell me that the next print will not be captured, delete items to increase available space. I use to be able to capture up to 24 screen prints in Word 2003.     - can't open Word 2007 files based on a networked template Word 2007 on Windows XP or Windows 2000 We have corporate Word templates that users access on a local network; users base new files on those corporate templates. However when users work remotely without being connected to the internal network, they cannot open those files--the attempt to open the file causes Word to freeze and then crash. Presumably this is because the file is trying to find the template on the network and that fails when the network connection isn't established. We had a similar problem with Word 2003 and fixed that a few years ago but our IT people haven't been able to fix the problem in this version of Word. In the individual files, we tried clearing the template path but that didn't work. (We did that through Word Options button > Add-Ins > Manage > Templates > Clear but that didn't work.) In the template itself, the above approach (Word Options button > Add- Ins ...) doesn't yield a path that is actually editable. The path, in the template itself, shows up but is not able to be selected or edited. If you have information or suggestions that might help, please let me know. Thank you very much for your time.     - Disapearing text in a word doc within a form I am using text fields and drop down menu's. I add data to both the text fields & the drop down menu's. I then save and exit the template document. Upon re opening all data added to the drop down menu is saved but the data added to the text fields is lost & ??? (Also when I re open word for a split second I can see the data that was added to the text field when I saved it, then it bizarrely disappears) I have also tested the template document on a different pc with the same version of office.     - Index update Changes Page Number -- Word 2007 Word 2007 and previous version 2003/2000 have this problem. When the index is updated, and multiple sections exist, such as a first section numbered i, ii, iii, . . . and a main content section numbered 1, 2, 3, . . . . an index update continues the numbering from section one to the next section. I have read the work around for this in 200/2003 was to use the F9 key to update instead of using the "update index" in the index menu. In 2007 F9 key is not a work around.     - Word - Across Page Breaks The last paragraph on one page seems to be tied to the First paragraph on the next page. I have a Paragraph Stype Heading1 to begin a new page. When I look at the table of contents, I show not only an entry for the Heading1 paragraph on the the page where I want it, but the same entry on the preceeding page. I checked, and the last paragraph is also a Heading1 Paragraph. (The paragraph is a blank carriage return). When I change that empty paragraph style to Normal, it also changes the first paragraph on the following page to Normal too. The only way I've been able to start the new page with my Heading1 style is to begin the page with a Normal style paragraph (empty) followed by my Heading1 paragraph. This also makes the Table of Contents look correct. But why can't I just do it the way that makes sense? I insert a page break and begin with a Heading1 (or Heading2 or Heading3) paragraph style without affecting the previous page? Stumpped here.     - can't remove Section Break --Continous from document I'm reformatting a document created and edited by two other people. I am inserting section breaks (next page) so I can have different headers in each section. There are existing section breaks (continuous). When I delete one, it changes the previous break from next page to continuous and removes the header. It repeats each time I move up to delete the previous break that was just changed until I finally get back to page one with all breaks removed. Any suggestions?     - Word document content duplicated each time document is opened Each time I open a Word document, the content of the document is duplicated. For example, if I create a new document containing the text "Foo" and Save & Close, the next time I open the document it will contain the text "Foo" twice. It's interesting to note that the scrollbar will jump to the bottom of the document after opening. Content does not duplicate when opening with trusty old 2003.     - Dash conversion on letter plus hyphen Every once in a while, Word 2007 will convert a letter-hyphen sequence into a dash. I took a snapshot (upload not available on this forum), clearly showing that this is the sequence that is being changed. There is no matching entry for this in the auto-correct entries. It's possible that this is caused by my Trados addon, but I doubt it because the snapshot shows it to be a dash conversion auto correct item.     - Word Help Error Whenever I click on a "Play Demo" button in Word 2007 Help, Notepad pops up along with a Notepad error message: "The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."     - Word hangs when unloading or removing Word Add-inn I installed PDF-Converter and after discovering I have the same feature pre-installed from Adobe, I de-installed PDF-Converter. However, in Word 2007, the ribbon tab kept showing the PDF-Converter-buttons, as well as the related "ScanSoftPDF.dot" add-ins (both "COM add-in" and "Word add-in"). When I remove these add-ins from the list (> Word options > Add-ins > Manage:COM add-ins > remove/unload), Word crashes once I quit the Word-options dialog screen. Anyhow (even if I do not try to unload or remove), Word hangs each time I try to exit the program. (And then, as you know, Word gives an error message and restarts. Truly exiting Word means: cancel restart after the error message.) I reinstalled PDF-Converter to remove/unload the same items manually from within Word first and then to de-install PDF-Converter again, but I never come this far. I also re-created the (system)folder structure with a fake ScanSoftPDF.dot, but also this does not work. Help!! Tag: Inseting a signature into a word document Tag: 120940

    - spell check not working in parts of document the spell check is not working in parts of my document - it appears turned on in the quick access toolbar and the proofing part of Word options. I have made a Jpeg of a signature and inserted into computer and I can insert
the signature into a blank document but when trying to insert into a document
with text it shows as an outline but the signature is not visible.

In the Tools > Options dialog, on the View tab, make sure Picture Placeholders
is not checked, and that Drawing Objects is checked. On the Print tab of the
dialog, again make sure that Drawing Objects is checked.
