    - Open File error - Word 2002 and other office 2000 apps. Hi, I operate Windows XP, Word 2002, and other office 2000 component, Power Point Excel. I have just updated it all, using the update wizard in Microsoft web site. Since this update, I can not open any file using the above applications. In Word I get an error message, "The file xxx.doc is not available.". In Power Point the error is "The path or file name for xxx.ppt is invalid. Please check that the path and file name are correct". In Excel, I get "Unable to read file". These error are the same whether I attempt to open the file by double clicking from the explorer window or from within the application.     - Word 2000 using Windows 98 Only lately, when I open Word it only has the white typing area and a blue line at the top with the word w"Word Document 1, There are no tool bars including the Tools with the View.     - Edit/Find - Screen Blanks Running W2K SP3 and Office Standard 2000 SP3 on several Dell Optiplex GX260. The probelm is in MS Wodd 2000: Using Edit/Find or CTRL F. The Find & Replace box pops up but the entire text in the document disappears; it re-appears if you push Esc and get rid of the Find & Replace box. Tried to load Graphics card drivers from ATI - then changes screen resolution - seemed to fix the problem. Tried the same fix on another PC (exact same spec) and the problem remained.     - Insert date works but format is changed when printed out! Hi, If I insert the date into a word 2000 document (01/03/03 format) what I see on the screen is just what I need, but when I print out a hard copy the date is corrupt this can be random letters or numbers or both. I am also told the mail merge will not work on this PC. I have been on the office update site and done the updates but still no luck I don't want to have to format the computer so I am looking for any advise please.     - word2k and dual boot problem Hi, I noticed this problem on at least three machines (all laptop various brands running on win2k pro) with dual boot. When there are two or more word documents open, its not possible to save a document or copy matter from one session to another, word shows an error message. The machines are with dual boot, active partitions are FAT32 and having the minimum possible drive space. The office 2000 is installed on logical parition running on win2k pro. Any help?     - Word and Excel errors The first of two things: 1. I get an error on Excel that tells me that the files is being open by another user. This happens on all Excel files that I open. The directory that the excel files are stored in is on a network shared. I've checked the permissions to make sure that it is not set to read only. The permission on the folder itself has no restrictive permissions. 2. The word problem is similar. I get a read only when I open any word files. Once again the files and folders do not have any restrictive permissions. I've tried reinstalling Office once before. If anyone has cany recommendations on how to fix this, that would be great. .     - Embedded Object Errors I was trying to find out why I get an error when I embed a linked Word doc in a Word doc in Word 2002. It also happens on linked Excel files in Word doc. I get the following error dialog box when I send it to other people and they try to open the embedded linked object: Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occurred and thsi feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now? Click Yes or No After clicking No (because I know the app is ok), this is followed by the dialog box: The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.     - Word 2003 template problem/error 1605 I have Mathtype and Adobe PDF plugins, and I just upgraded to Office 2003 from the betas. The beta versions were working just fine with the plugins, but now, upon startup, I will get the error "Microsoft Office Word can't display the template used in this document. Microsoft Office Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605. This action is only valid for products taht are currently installed." So I just hold down the ENTER key until the the dialog box disapears, and afterwards, everything works as normal. Any ideas how to fix this?     - Can Keep Only One Word Document Opened At A Time I have Microsoft XP Professional Office 2002. Until a few days ago in Word I could keep as many documents opened at the same time as I wanted. Suddenly I can only keep one document open at a time. After opening an initial document and I want to keep it open while I open a second document, either a new one or previously saved one, whatever I am trying to open takes the place of the existing opened document and I can only have one document open at a time.     - Printing page ranges I have loaded on the XP service pack 1a and my office service pack is on 2. The issue I am having is that some (not all)documents are having issues printing. I can print the entire document, or the current page, but not the page range (ie 66-69). What is really wierd is that the documents that don't work are ones that were created prior to loading on the service packs (which I loaded to solve searching issues).     - Help please? ok, this has confused all of us. We have decomissioned an old server which used to be our file store. We moved all the files to a new server (which has a different name of course). This was fine and everything worked well until we powered down the old server. When this was done about 20 minutes later we started getting calls from users who were unable to open certain word documents. Word would launch but hang, the file never opened and the application would eventually stop responding. We cant identify why it is only some Word doc's and not all. Whenever we restart the server the problem goes away. The documents could be really old or very new, and most are likely to have been created from shared templates. All problem clients are windows XP/office XP with all the latest service packs and patches relavent to each. But, this is where it gets strange. We installed Windows XP fresh on a new PC and tried to open the problem files using Wordpad, they opened fine. Then we install a fresh copy of Office XP and the problem occoured. It appears Wordpad will open the document fine on any machine. Once opened on Wordpad we can save the document as the same name (overwriting the old) and then Word WILL open it successfully. What is going on? It's obviously got something to do with our old server being on but we don't know what. There are no references or links in these documents to other documents. The only connection to this old server is that they were created from templates stored on it.     - VB application only fuction with Word97? We have an online databaseon our serverwith the VB application only function with Word97. There few other databases develop in a common folder that uses ofice2000 with all mail merge in Word200. It seems to me that the big database withWod97 functionality can survive with Word2000.     - Black Writing Spaces in Word I can pull up a doc and I can view it fine. When I go to type something in the page, the whole line just turns black on me. It does this on a new doc also.     - Word hangs on "Save" to network Drive Hello, I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have several differen clients (on different networks) who, when trying to save a wor document to a network drive, word will hang (displaying "no responding") for up to 3 minutes. All three machines are runnin Windows XP, with all of the latest service packs/critical updates) Also loaded, is Office 2000, also with all of the updates/servic packs. After paying $350 to microsoft tech support (along with 15 Hr into this issue), I am still at a stalemate.     - Disabling error reporting? When Word2002+ crashes, it asks to send something somewhere ... The prospect of sending off whatever data that might be in the document is not something a large law firm wants to do. How can this be disabled? And if MSFT wants bug reports, thye can set up an instance of BugZilla and collect them ... I personally have given up on reporting the bugs because they never seem to get fixed.     - Copying text from Word to OE mail give IE error??? Hi, I'm using Word 2002, OE6, IE6. When copying text from Word doc and pasting into an OE mail message I get an Internet Explorer alert with the following error message: "Your current security setting prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly." The resulting text in OE looks ok to begin with, but when I save it or send it the text in the outgoing message changes from single spaced to double spaced.     - When doing an Open wierd characters and blank file names Hi, Running Word 97 sr2b. When in Word and doing an "Open as" the filenames are either ????? or sometimes blank even though there is a Word icon by the object. Ran update virus scan, Rebooted, powered down, Emptied out the temps, deleted normal.dot, even re-registered Word. It will only do so in Word and only in Open.     - Word draws window in wrong location I have a machine that on seemingly random occasions draws maximized Word windows about an inch and a half from the top of the monitor. The real problem is that the bottom of the window is "drawn" off the monitor and so you can sometimes not access the scroll bar as it is off screen. Or if your cursor is to low in the window, you can not see what you are typing / trying to edit. Inevitabley once Word is closed and reopened a few times, it figures out where the top of the monitor really is. This is on a XP machine with Office 2003.     - Repagination problem I had a very long document with a large contents table. I removed all the contents except the 1st heading, then went to the contents and did an update field. This caused a hang. It says 'word is repaginating document' but nothing happens. Escape doesn't work. If I remove the 1st heading then it's ok (it says Error! No table of contents found, which I guess is ok). I also noticed that in another document, if the 1st heading doesn't have a page break before it, then updating the contents also causes a hang.     - Word hangs repeatedly I have MS Office Small Business and on one of my computers, Word hangs every time I try to open, close, or save a shared document on my server. One thing I heard that would help is to add a DWORD value named "cachesize" in the registry under ...Word>Options that is 1024 bytes, and that seemed to help for a while, but after a few days it is still hanging for up to several minutes at a time. A couple other seemingly indentical computers were having the same problem a couple months ago, and once I added the DWORD value, they have worked perfectly. Any suggestions? Thanks. I cannot read hyperlinks. The appear coded in some sort of
parenthesis. I tried the files in other Word program and
the hyperlinks appear just fine. Anything I can do about
it?
