Hi,
My tools and help menus entries completely disappeared. What happens ? I
read that a repair with a start switch should be possible but don't find
this on the web.
I use Word 2002 with Win XP SP2.
Need rapid help. Thanks
Frank

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/RestoreMenuCmd.htm (I
would try Method 2 first).

Thank you for your rapid answer.

I can't use method 1 and 2 as the tools menu has no entries!
Trying method 3 (renaming normal.dot so that Word creates a virgin
normal.dot) I found 2 normal.dots on my PC:
- \documents & settings\ <user>\application data\microsoft/template
- \documents & settings\LocalService\application data\microsoft/template

I renamed them to normal_corrupt.dot, Word closed, but no effect! A new
normal.dot was created nut the Tools and the Help entries remained empty.

I remember that someone wrote about a start-up switch. Could that be a
way ? But which one ?

Unfortunately, the tip with the start-up switch winword.exe /a did not work.
Creating a virgin normal.dot had no effect, either.

What do you recommand now ?

Have you tried to delete the registry entries also mentioned in the
article?

I'll try that when I have more quiet time. I never opened the registry,
so I am somewhat cautious and have to well read the manual in advance
