    - Word quitting Whenever I try to open a Word document for the first time after starting or restarting the computer (Mini Mac, OS 10.4.10), Word unexpectedly quits. It happens whether I double click on the document, drag the document to the Word icon in the dock or use command-open from within the application. Once I reboot Word, things are fine. This is, of course, not fatal, but it sure is annoying and time consuiming. Any ideas of what's causing it? Or, more impoirtantly, how to prevent it?     - Corrupt fonts?? MAC All of a sudden Word (Mac version 11.3.6) will not completely open. First I had a bunch of "corrupt font" windows open, I mean like a lot.     - Custom toolbars not saved; Adobe-related fix doesn't work Word 2003 (Pro) has stopped saving custom toolbars and toolbar locations. Every time I start it, I have to turn off the same toolbars and move them around to where I want them. The fixes that I have found, related to the Adobe 7.0 toolbar, don't work. For one thing, I have only ever had the free Reader and not full-blown Acrobat, so I've never had the toolbar installed in the first place. I had not made any changes to the software that I'm aware of, other than MS updates, before the problem started. Updating Adobe Reader itself did not resolve the problem. Holding down shift then going to "save all" doesn't seem to have any effect, either--although it saves normal.dot, the toolbars are still all over the place when I open Word again. Am I looking in the wrong place for the solution? All the answers I have found in searching the internet seem to be related to the Adobe Acrobat toolbar.     - I cannot type single line format in a document. Word has taken o While typing a legal document I was using a three line separation between the end of a paragraph and the succeeding "header". After a while, word began to insert a three-line break between each paragraph irrespective of insertion of a header. At this point I cannot reset the line spacing to single line. I enter single line in the format/paragraph area, but the space between lines in the document continues to be double at the least. Also, a tiny black square now appears at the left margin of each line. I don't know what I did to bring up this black square, but I cannot delete it and I think it has something to do with my inability to control the line spacing. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced similar problems and can help me regain control of my document. I am using Word 2003.     - formatting in document is too complex I am having a similar issue. The document I am opening is a .docx and when using Word 2000 I get the message that the doc is too complex. I have the 2007 compatibility fix loaded on the station. The numbering in the doc appears to get out of wack too. I don't seem to have a problem with this on my 2003 station.     - e-mail signature I added a new e-mail account to my Microsoft Office Outlook, and changed word to the default editor, but now the e-mail signatures won't work. In the e-mail options box it says "select the signatures associated with" and has the new account's mail server in the drop down box. I think that's why it's not working. How can I change the info in the drop down box to the old mail server. Also I looked in control panel under mail and it shows the old mail server as the only account, but when I go to tools, e-mail accounts in Outlook it only shows the new account's mail server.     - Save problems Everytime I try to use "Save As" on new documents it closes Word and loses most of the document (back to last auto save). When I reopen Word I can try to use the restore , but often there is a large part of the doc missing.     - How can I stop Word reverting to another font when I am typing When I am typing in Word I sometimes delete a word or space only to find that a whole paragraph leaps back into Times New Roman 10 italic, when I was happily typing in Arial 12. I've been there several times and done EVERYTHING suggested to fix the problem. Still won't open. I've repaired about 3 times, I've uninstalled and reinstalled; and I've run my virus program.     - Excel 2007 crashes when opening a file I recently installed the trial version (hopefully, because paying that much money for a non-working software would have killed me) of MS Office Home & Student on my brand new laptop (Acer Aspire 5684, Vista Home Premium).     - Compute Statistics function fails to work I have a VBA macro that uses the ComputeStatistics method to calculate the page that a paragraph is on like so: Set myRng = myPara.Range myRng.Start = 0 intPage = myRng.ComputeStatistics(wdStatisticPages) and it works great for almost all the Word documents that I use it on, however I have one file that simply will not calculate the statistics on a Range (even the currently selected Range). In this file, the ComputeStatistics method always returns 0 for every statistic type in every range that I create. I tried adding the Word Count toolbar to the file and I noticed that the Word Count toolbar always shows the page or word count for the entire file - never for the current selection; wheras in other files the Word Count toolbar shows the statistics for the currently selected range. Does anyone know why the ComputeStatistics method would fail in a particular Word file? The files I'm working with have essentially got the same layout, they're based on the same template and use the same styles. I'm working in Word 2003 on Windows XP.     - Word only prints part of page On one document, Word only prints part of the page - the "Heading 1" heading and the bullets, but none of the other text whatever. It prints a couple of other documents just fine. I cut and pasted the text via Notepad into a new document. This printed OK until I format ed the heading as "Heading 1". Then this document too printed in the same messed-up way. I assumed the problem was a corrupt normal.dot. I'd had an error message about this a week or so ago, but no sign of any problem until now. So I deleted normal.dot and allowed Word to build a new one, which is all I thought I had to do to un-corrupt it. No joy, still prints only the heading and the bullets.     - Word Crashes daily (and then some) For years, I have had to deal with MS word crashing on me daily. I have spent hundreds of dollars on upgrades to no avail, and technical support people have never been able to help, even when I can understand their English. Now, the upgrade to Office 2007 trial version does not even offer support! What kind of company is this that will gladly take my money for a product that does not work and then not give me decent technical support?     - Conflict with Word & Outlook I use Office Pro 2003 - If I open Word before I open Outlook, then the Word window opens fully in the screen. Sometimes though, when I close a file (not exit), Word closes entirely. Also, if I open Word after I open Outlook, then Word will not fill the screen and you cannot move it up to the top of the screen or use the maximize button to make it bigger.     - Word baseline shifts after inserting a Windows Meta File into Word Operating environment: Windows XP and Windows Vista Using Microsoft Word 2007 This describes a situation where the inclusion of a windows Meta file (WMF) causes any following text baseline to shift downward. (In this case, to create the WMF Iâ??m using Design Scienceâ??s MathType 6.0a) The problem manifests itself after the document has been saved and reopened. Clearly the cursor is using the bottom edge of the WMF bounding box as a reference point for the baseline following it. Since itâ??s entirely possible for a WMF to occupy more vertical space than the typical line height, this is not acceptable. To reproduce the problem: 1. Launch Word 2007 and type some text. 2. Insert any WMF (MathType or other) at the end of the text line. 3. Save and close the document. Then reopen it. 4. Place the cursor to the right of the WMF and begin typing. Note the baseline is now aligned with the WMF bottom boarder of the bounding box and more importantly, is now out of line with the text that precedes the WMF Additional information to consider: - This problem does not occur with versions of Word earlier than 2007 - This problem does not occur if the document was saved from 2007 to a pre-2007 format - This problem occurs with the inclusion of WMFs regardless of origin (Not just MathType) Iâ??m not looking for a quick fix per se; rather Iâ??d like to know what changed in 2007 to cause this?     - Adding items to QAT while viewing .doc files causes QAT item to di Operating environment: Windows XP Windows Vista Microsoft Word 2007 This describes a problem where additions made to the Word 2007 Quick Access Toolbar while viewing .doc files do not persist after closing and re-launching Word. Note that this problem only manifests itself when adding third-party items to the QAT, not when adding Microsoft Wordâ??s ribbon elements to the QAT. Steps to reproduce the problem: It will be necessary to have any of the many third party add-ins installed. In this particular case, we are using our MathType 6.0a 1. Launch Word 2007 and open a pre-2007 file (.doc). 2. While viewing the .doc file, choose any of the buttons located under the MathType tab in the Word ribbon. Right-click it and choose, Add to Quick Access Toolbar. 3. Close Word. 4. Launch Word either from the Start menu or by double-clicking the original .doc file. 5. Note the item that was added to the Quick Access Toolbar doesnâ??t persist. It has been suggested that Word 2007 has the ability to save Quick Access Toolbar items either in the context of a specific document, or such that it is available in every session of Word.     - Opening Word 2007 Just upgraded to Vista and Office 2007 (1 of 15 in our office) and find it impossible to open Word 60-70% of of the time. I navigate from the Windows logo bottom left to Programs to Microsoft Office to Word 2007. A dime Word background appears then immediately a window: "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working. Windows is trying to recover your information" - the window changes to...""Microsoft Office Word has stopped working. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution - it freezes there so that the "Close Program button must be clicked. Then a window appears with the full path and says the file cannot be found. Try typing it in again correctly - although nothing was ever typed in. I have uninstalled and installed the entire Office application several times. My only solution is to keep trying until eventually it opens and then never close Word.     - Copy hyperlink error in Word 2007 Hyperlinks are not copied and/or pasted correctly in Word 2007. Here's my process: 1. I right click on a hyperlink in Word 2007 and select "copy hyperlink". 2. I click on text where I need to paste the hyperlink to. 3. I click hyperlink, which opens a dialogue. 4. I press Control V to paste in the hyperlink. 5. The hyperlink is wrong. This is for hyperlinks that are extremely long.     - Word for Mac - missing Tab command Starting several weeks ago, I no longer have a "Tab" command within the "Format" menu of Word. Thinking that perhaps I had forgotten something simple, I went to the Word help menu, and was instructed that the Tab command is in the Format menu. But it is absolutely not there. The list in the Format menu includes character, paragraph, section document, and numberous other items, but Tab is nowhere to be found. Where could it possibly have gone? I used to use it all the time. I am using an iMac G-5, running Mac OS 10.4.10, with Office 2004 for Mac. I had upgraded to Word 11.3.5 and just this morning to 11.3.7. But still no Tab command.     - Word 2007 - Unable to use mouse to select text Running Vista - Home Premium and downloaded the latest updates for Vista and Office that came out this morning 8/15/07.     - Document map does not navigate when clicked I have a large MSWord document previously created in Word2003. When I convert this file to the 2007 format and open it the document map will display, but I cannot use it to navigate the doc. I also cannot use outline view (it says there is not enough memory, and since I have 4GB that seems unlikely). Both still work fine in compatibility mode with the 2003 file. Any suggestions?     - Multi laguage add-in technical problem I installed the Multi Language Pack from Microsoft (2007 edition) on Windows XP professional and Office 2007, and I have the following technical difficulties: 1) when spellchecking or typing in a language that has diacritics or hyphens, such as Romanian, instead of the correct symbol or letter I get a little square inserted within the word. This problem persists in all the fonts except Cambria, where everything works fine. 2) HOWEVER, if I print that document using the Cambria font, which seems to display the diacritics correctly, it'll print pages of gibberish digits.     - Trouble converting to PDF from MS Word 1. One of the images that looks good on MS-Word direct print out, gets messed up (background greyed) when converted to PDF. 2. I have a symbol for centerline in my MS-Word by typing 2104 in a document and press Alt+X. It looks good when directly printed to a printer, but shows up as question mark when converted to PDF. 3. Is there a way I can see my pdf file, in a way as if I am reading the book.,, with the first page starting from right. I know I had this feature in Acrobat 5.0 and not in the newer versions. 4. Would appreciate if any of you can direct me to a good acrobat tech form which is free. I couldnt located a free one in Adobe's website. Thanks, for your always great support. When I use a clients Office Word system and add via header / footer a page x
of y when document is printed it shows as page 1 of 1, page 2 of 2, page 3 of
3 etc. When I view document in print preview is shows it as correct i.e. page
1 of 3, page 2 of 3, page 3 of 3.
I have had same problem some time ago (Office 2000?) but cannot remember the
bug fix.
