Insertion Point misbehaves
I am using Word 2007 with Vista as OS.
When I come to the end of a paragraph and I press Enter, the insertion point
does not jump to the next line until I press a key. I noticed the same
behaviour when I used Word 2003 on my previous computer.
Is there some setting I should alter?

No Mouse Control
I am having the same problem (Word Professional 2007). No mouse
control. Cannot select Resourses using the keyboard either
(WordOptions.Resources). I am pure vanilla, no addins. I opened a
trouble ticket on this with Microsoft today. Don't understand the
statement "starting in admin mode". My user account is specified as
admin in Vista. I've even turned user control off. I tried running a
Repair using the Office CD. Still no luck. Last resort is to
uninstall and reinstall but that's drastic action. Any more
suggestions? Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111655
Office 2007 wont open files
I just installed Office 2007. For some reason I can only open files if I go
to the file menu and navigate to the file through the directory. If I try to
open the file from a folder or shortcut, office starts but the file does not.
I have created new files in 2007, and even the new files act this way. I
have been reading other posts, and found some information about Nortons on
the beta version of Office 2007, but is that still an issue? Any guidance
would be greatly helpfull.

Word 2007: Stops functioning after auto updates of 4-10
Last night, Word 2007 worked great. This morning when I awoke, I found that
the auto update had downloaded and installed updates and restarted my
machine. Now the slide bar does not work on the right side of Word 2007 nor
can I access headers/footers by clicking on them. Plus everytime I try to
close Word 2007, it "stops working" and the OS attempts to check for a
solution, finding none. I have run the Office Diagnostics twice, but no
luck. I
attempted to access the Trust Center in Word 2007, but the option is no
longer available ("greyed out"). Did access Truct Center in Excel, however,
but Excel 2007 does not have this problem.
Any ideas on how to get Word 2007 functioning again?" Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111652
Problem saving a reviewed word doc.
Preface: I constantly email documents to and from another agent in my
office, and we use the "Review" function of word to make changes so they are
visible to our clients. I am running Office 2007, and do back-compat save my
files to Word 97-2003 so that everyone in the office can view them correctly.
The problem: When I accept all the changes in the reviewed document, I
cannot save the file with the current file name, it throws a "Current File In
Use" error. I end up having to save it to another file name, then deleting
the original file I was working on.
Is this a problem with the version of .doc that I'm saving it as? Or is it
an issue with using the review function? Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111651

Spontaneous Changes to the Normal Style
I'm working in Word 2002 and lately have experienced the normal style and/or
the table normal style spontaneously acquiring three attributes:
Line spacing of at least 18 points
Full justification
Font alignment: Baseline
This usually occurs after the undo of a modification of a style based on the
normal but has also occured upon the application of such a paragraph style to
text. It has also occured upon a full paste (i.e. not a "paste unformatted
text").
The phenomenon is inconsistent in its occurrence in that it is not reliably
repeatable. It has occurred in documents based upon my normal template as
well as documents based on other templates. Compatability options do not
appear to be a factor.
The only realiable way I have found to fix the problem once it occurs is to
copy in a new normal style or table normal from my normal.dot via Organizer.
Has anyone experienced this or have any insight as to why it might be
occuring?

Office: This application must be installed to run. Please run Set
I am running Windows XP (SP2) and have Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business
Edition installed. Yesterday, I began receiving the following error: OFFICE
- This application must be installed to run. Please run Setup from the
location where you originally installed the application.
This message pops up when I try to open Word, Excel or Outlook. It also
pops up immediately upon restarting the computer.
I tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling but I still get the same message.
I tried renaming the Normal.dot file and that didn't work.
I've checked all the articles on Microsoft.com KB, I believe there are 3,
and none of them apply. They are all for earlier versions of Windows.
I've read the previous posts on here regarding this same problem and none of
them seemed resolved.
I even went to the Microsoft Office MVP Faq's site that was referenced in
one of the previous posts but most of the suggestions didn't apply - or
didn't seem to.
I do have Norton Antivirus installed but it has been on here a long time and
hasn't caused problems before.
Any other suggestions on what is causing this?
Thank you so much! Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111626
Unresolved bugs
Although I appreciate the help I've gotten here, I just want to make sure
Microsoft knows that none of the help I've received has solved the problems
I've reported:
1. A single hyphen and the previous letter occasionally converts to an m-dash.
2. The auto correct function periodically stops working, so smart quotes and
items I've inserted in the auto correct are unavailable.
3. The left margin jumps to the right when the right margin is moved to the
left for some objects.
4. One more bug is the search and replace. It is not possible to replace a
ã?»(Japanese middle dot) with â?¢ (an English one). Although the size of it
changes, it is not the same character.
These are all bugs from Word 2003 that continue in Word 2007.

word2003 "insert address" not working
I am using Office 2003 (word, outlook, ...) with an exchange 2003 server.
I try to use the "insert address" button in word to insert a contact from
outlook, I can choose the contact in "Contacts" in the "insert address" form
but when I click OK, nothing happens. If I choose a name from "Global Contact
List", this is working.
I also tried with the letter wizard: same issue.
Then I open a merge wizard, begin the procedure and once the list of
contact is populated from oultook, I go back to my first blank document and
tried again "insert address" then this is working and still working till the
"merge wizard" is open. When I closed the merge wizard, "insert address" is
not working again.
I have reinstall (after removing Program Files/Office and Regsitry 11.0) all
office (complete install) with word's address book. I still have the problem.
I guess this is a problem of how word is connection to outlook, I think that
the list of name is populated from a simpler address book and when word try
to get the full contact it fail the connection. I have no error message.
I also checked that Outlook is the contact manager in Internet Options.
For information, I do not use word as the default mail editor.
Does anyone have any idea.

Try this Fix for Word/Excel Crashes With Networked Printers
After a lot of different fix tries, I finally got this one to work. First,
delete all drivers relating to XP (or older) for the printer you're having
issues with. Then, go to the printer website and download the Vista drivers
to the PC you are working on - write down the location. Next, add a LOCAL
printer (NOT NETWORK), "create a new port", add a "TCP/IP" port, add the LAN
IP for both the host name/IP and the port name. Add the Vista drivers and you
should be good to go. This may give you a bandaid until this is fixed.

Word has encountered a problem...
I use Word 2003 as my e-mail editor in Outlook 2003. When I have Outlook
open and/or Word open, periodically I receive the following error message:
"Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close...." The
error report contains the following information: AppName: winword.exe
AppVer: 11.0.8125.0 AppStamp: 45b6910c ModName: winword.exe
ModVer: 11.0.8125.0 ModStamp: 45b6910c
I have searched both the web and Microsoft's Knowledge base for this exact
message and can't find it. It is very frustrating because it happens
sporadically and often, and if it happens while I am typing an e-mail or
working in Word (which is the majority of the time), I lose what I am working
on and have to start from scratch.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Document Recovery Error Loop - Word just won't start
Hi,
I'm using MS Office 2002. I have no intention of upgrading anytime soon.
I noticed this problem shortly after a message popped on my screen stating
there was a problem loading the Stamps.com addin for MS Word.
When Word is initiated, it goes into this "encountered problem and needs to
close" box. Recover my work and restart Word is checked. When you click the
next button, Word attempts to recover documents, but states it can't and asks
if you would like to start in Safe Mode. If you answer "no," Word again
tries to restart, but ends up showing the initial "encountered a problem and
needs to close" box. The loop goes on and on.
I've run a repair install, I've reinstalled Office, and I've deleted every
Word recovery file on my system. I have also removed Stamps.com (which has
caused other software problems) from the system. Please help! Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111594

Enter key doesn't work
Hello All,
I am unsure if this is the correct newsgroup for this question so I have
cross-posted to vba.general and to application.errors. My apologies if that
is inappropriate.
I created a template in Word 2003 and when I type in the document, the Enter
key doesn't do anything. At all.
* I am using Word 2003 on a WinXP Pro SP2 system w/ 2 GB RAM.
* I have not assigned any macros, AutoText, styles, or anything to the
Enter key and I am not using KeyBinding in my VBA code.
* I am intercepting some Word commands but I can't believe they have
anything to do with it. I am intercepting:
- FileSave
- FileSaveAs
- DecreaseIndent
- IncreaseIndent
- NextCell
- PrevCell
* I did use KeyBinding in a previous incarnation of the template before I
remembered I could trap the ...Indent and ...Cell commands. That keybinding
did play with the Enter key. But after I removed the Keybinding code, I took
another precaution and started a new document and imported the "Word Command"
code module, which was wholly separate from the "KeyBinding" module.
* The Enter key works as expected in other documents.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be wrong? This is really perplexing
me and I am frustrated beyond measure. Any insight is most appreciated.
Thanks,
- Jeff Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111576

Bibliography and Citations
I am pos-graduate student and I use the Brazilian norms of the ABNT: NBR6023
to format my bibliography of my master´s work. I have noticed that Word 2007
does not supply customization options for this format. That option should be
there to be used in Brazil. We can adopt and adapt the Turabian style,
however for my surprise, bibliographical database of word does not possess a
field for subtitle for books, that this feature must be formatted in a
different form (Tiltle in Italics or Bold; subtitle with no font formating).
The new bibliography tools are a great one innovation, but in these
conditions does not serve the brazilian university students for nothing, in
the case it is necessary to detail and to personalize my references

there was over 30 GB free on the hard drive. I closed all other files, but

Grammar Check Stopped Working for Entire Program
I have two of three computers (one is a work computer and updates are
controlled by them) where MS Word 2003 SP2 has stopped performing the
Grammar Check. I checked all of the settings and everything is
correct per MS Knowledge Base articles and Help Files. One 'broken'
app is running on WinXP Pro SP2, one 'broken' app is running on WinXP
Home, and the working app is also running on WinXP Pro SP2.
The test sentence I typed is:
"There is a squirrel it is fat." This should have flagged a grammar
error after squirrel (because it is missing the conjunction 'and').
Is there possibly a WinXP patch causing this issue? (I only say this
because that may be the only difference between the working PC and the
broken PC as the working one is from work and all patches are tested
in-house before being pushed through the network). Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111542

Dash auto correct still malfunctions in Word 2007
The hyphen to dash auto correct function sometimes malfunctions, converting a
letter plus a hyphen (rather than two hyphens) to a dash. I see this
sometimes when I type "above-mentioned" (because I use that word a lot) as
well as with other hyphenated words. I double-checked, and there is no auto
correct entry for anything beginning with "above".
While I'm on the topic, I should mention that the smart quotes auto correct
function also malfunctions frequently enough that I'm in the habit of doing a
global search and replace to ensure single and double quotes are the smart
type. This also seems to be unfixed in Word 2007. Tag: No Fonts Tag: 111492
