I just noticed I have about 1000 .IDX file in my Word files.
When I open one it is one line of odd characters.
Any ideas how I got them and from who? If I just delete all the files is
that the end? I don't seem to be haveing any problems with the computer.

I'm not sure what you mean you find the .idx files in your Word files?

But I can tell you that IDX files are AOL temporary mail files. Nowt to do
with Office.

I don't know why I would have 1000 of these files, I don't have AOL, never
have.

>I'm not sure what you mean you find the .idx files in your >Word files?

When I open the Word program then click file/open the
list of files has about 1000 files ending with .IDX.
An example, file name--CA1B.IDX and when I open the file it has the
following inside --TIDX [[[è]]]]]]]]]]]]].
Change the brackets to boxes, I copied and pasted but
the boxes don't paste.
Any thoughts?
Mike

It has something to do with AOL mail. I suggest that you check this with an
AOL support forum.

Terry, .IDX isn't necessarily from AOL. It's a commonly used extension
for "index" files for programs that use primitive databases.

Like Mike, I've never had anything to do with AOL. My system has about
70 files with .IDX extensions, in folders associated with Forte Agent,
Quicken, and Java. However, there aren't any in my document folders.

Mike, make a new folder somewhere and move the .IDX files to it. Use
the computer for a week or so to see if any programs complain. If so,
you can move the files back again; otherwise, delete the whole folder.
Also watch the folders to see whether more .IDX files appear, and if
so, what program you're using at the time.
