This question is totally off-topic for this Microsoft Word newsgroup
-- it belongs in a Windows newsgroup.
To get you started, though, it sounds like the MSC extension's file
association has been changed. To put it back:
- Open "My Computer".
- Click Tools > Folder Options > File Types.
- Select MSC in the list.
- In the Details box, if the "Opens with" item doesn't say "Microsoft
Management Console", then continue...
- Click the Change button.
- If you see Microsoft Management Console in the list, select it,
check the box for "Always use this program to open this kind of file",
and click OK.
- If you don't see Microsoft Management Console in the list, click the
Browse button, navigate to the folder C:\Windows\System32, and
double-click the icon for mmc.exe. Then check the box for "Always use
this program to open this kind of file", and click OK.
It's possible that there's some other problem, but this is the most
likely one.
