Only happens when I receive word documents from other sources. If I open and
close a word document from my computer all is well. However, here is the
error that occurs when closing word:

Word cannot open the file
~WRS{853716B4-63AE-4EE7-9489-54198A9C3039}
If the file is stored on your computer, there may be a problem with your
hardware. If the file is stored on the network, there may be a poblem with
the network connection. If you can copy the file, try saving the file in
another location and opening it there.

Again, this happens only when I receive files from other sources. I can open
and review, make changes, and close but this error comes up. Thanks for the
help.

Are you opening them directly from Outlook (or your email client)? It sounds
as though you are not saving the documents to your local HDD before opening
them.

No, I am saving the documents to my HD and then opening them.

Please tell us your version of Word (Office) and Windows. Are they both
patched up to date? Do you have an HP printer?

Sorry to butt in, but I have the exact same problem. I often have it when
opening a Word document attached to an email. After looking at other forums,
I was able to see a procedure where the problem always occurs. Open two word
documents, copy data from doc1 to doc2, then save doc2. Next close both, and
the error always happens. I have seen remedies such as replacing
Normal.dotm, which did not work. I have also seen a recommendation to edit
the registry file and delete the data folder under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word. That did not work for
me either. I have also tried running Word by calling in Winword /A to
eliminate add-ins, and this did not make a difference.

I do have an HP printer, a C7280 all in one, which I'm using in a wireless
mode. I have the latest drivers and software, which I downloaded from the
web, and did not use the install disk (which I read was full of problems). I
have not tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers, nor have I tried
reinstalling Office. My version of Word is 12.0.6311.5000 SP1 MSO
12.0.6213.1000.

Thanks for any help you can provide me and Big DL

Install a different printer. For this test, the Windows Generic Text driver
will suffice. Make it the Windows default. Test Word for the error again.

Thanks Terry. I did as you said and installed a generic Text driver, made it
the default printer. Problem went bye-bye. So it definitely is an HP
related problem.

Now what do I do? (other than buy a different printer)

Press HP Support for a solution.

In the meanwhile, use a different printer driver as the system default and
only switch to the HP printer when you want to print (remembering to switch
back again when finished).

Re: Error when Closing Word by KoalaKM

KoalaKM

I am experiencing the same problem. Word cannot open the file WRS{***}. If
the file is stored on your computer, there may be a problem with your
hardware. If the file is stored on the network, there may be a problem with
the network connection. If you can copy the file, try saving the file in
another location and opening it there.

My problem occurs when I attempt to close a Word document (new or existing).
The Word document closes, displays the error message, and then reopens Word.

Any possible solutions?
