Lately, Word 2003 (on XP) has started to behave strangely. When I try to
start Word by double-clicking on a document, I get this error message
(translated from Swedish):

"The command could not be executed because a dialog window is open. Click OK
and close open dialog windows to continue."

No dialog windows are open, and when I click OK, Word starts normally and
the document opens. But when Word is already started, it is possible to open
documents by double-clicking without any error messages.

What has happened? And how can I get rid of this error message?

Hans

Maybe you just need to reregister Word: but try running Help, Detect and
Repair (which will reregister Word and check that nothing is wrong with the
installation at the same time).

The other possibility is Norton Ante Virus which seem to like hiding dialogs
out of sight. Disable the Office Plug-in option in NAV.

Thanks for the advice!

But it did not help to reregister Word; the same error message still pops
up.

I do have Norton AntiVirus, but I can't find the Office Plug-in - where is
it?

1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Systray icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."

5. OK out and close NAV.
