Can't start Word 2000 or any Office products

Hi,

I've been using them for a few years, but now I can't start any Office
programs. OE's email dictionary only offers the French dictionary. Win
2K Pro, sp 4, lots of free disk space, other programs run fine.
Is there a repair option, maybe using the original Office install disk?
I don't see it.
All shortcuts and program folders are in place.
The file and folder and drive permissions are ok. Paths are valid.

The error messages are (and the normal Win splash screen appears):

First Opening doc err window:
"The doc name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions. *Check the
file permissions for the doc or drive. *Use the File Open dialog box to
locate the doc docname.doc. OK"

When I select OK, get:

Second Opening doc err window:
"The doc name or path is not valid. Try one or more of the following:
*Check the path to make sure it was type correctly. *On the File menu,
click Open. Search for the file using this dialog box: (...\docname.doc)
Ok"

Word then shuts down.

When I select New or open:
"Problems with shortcut. This action is only valid for products that are
currently installed."
then...
"Windows Explorer (Yellow !) Unable to run this command. Ok."

I don't know if this is any help but when I was using Office 2000, I
applied SP1 and found very similar problems to those being experienced
by you. Apparently there is a problem with some versions whose
registration number begins with certain letters. If you hjave applied
Offioce 2000 SP1, let me know and IO will look up the exact data. If
not, I hope you can find a solution.

Thanks. I think I did apply SP-1 quite a while ago, since one registry
entry is: "Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional"

A help file I found in an Office sub-folder states there is a repair
option:

"Reinstalling/Repairing Microsoft Office 2000
Choose one of the options below.
Reinstall Office 2000
Installs Office with your original settings.
Repair errors in my Office 2000 installation
Finds and repairs any errors in the Office installation. Click Restore
my shortcuts to replace any shortcuts that were removed."

But no instruction on how. I've tried the original disk, and didn't find
any repair option.

I think I got around it by uninstalling and re-installing. Microsoft
have a fix for the problem but you need to contact their helpline in
order to get a new installation key. I got one and it sorted the problem
but I have now upgraded to Office 2003.
