Hi,

I have a word file with size 5.4MB and it contains MathType equations. Now
after saving this file last time it doesn't open. And application gives me an
error that "no sufficient memory". I have free 20GB space on HDD and I have
512MB RAM out of which 250 MB was free.

I have tried some 3rd party tool but it didn't work.

what should I do???

Data is very much important.

if anybody knows the rootcause tell me.

I cannot open a word file either (after opening hundreds over the years).
Suddenly I get a message at the bottom left of the screen "Requesting virus
check" and the whole program hangs. Can anyone explain and tell me what to do
to solve it?

If you are running Norton Anti Virus, disable the Office Plug-in option in
NAV.

How can I disable the Office Plug-In option? I can't find any reference to
this in my version of Norton. I've opened Norton and selected AV,
Miscellaneous but can't locate the Plug-In disabling option.

Presently I cannot open any Word or Excel files becasue I'm getting meesages
that I don't have enough memory or disk space when neither of these
statements is correct.

Help will be appreciated.

Thanks Terry. This puts me on the right lines. I do not run Norton but I do
have AVG anti virus software. It seems odd if this has suddenly taken an
interest in Word files if that is what is doing it. I did run a complete AVG
scan and I saw it go through all the My document files and find no virus in
any of them. Can you help me further?

Try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with AVG by clicking
on Start | Run, and in the Open box, type:

regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll

You may need to specify the full path to the avgoff2k.dll file
(e.g., c:\pathname\avgoff2k.dll) in the Run command. If this
fixes the problem, great. If this doesn't fix the problem, then
you can reenable the AVG Office Plugin by clicking on Start |
Run, and in the Open box, type:

regsvr32.exe avgoff2k.dll

Sorry, Naman. My reply was intended for "Joebint", who I didn't
realize had hijacked your thread for his unrelated question. As
for your problem:

Is Mathtype installed on the computer that experiences this error
when your file is opened on it? When you say "getting error
specified file not found", does the error message say which file
it is looking for? Are you opening the file from your hard
drive, or from some kind of removable media?

Terry,

Will you please tell me how to disable the plug-in. I've tried opening the
Norton Security Centre and working through the options but cannot find any
reference to the plug-in.

Terry,

Forget it - I've at last found out how to disable the plug-in and everything
is working again. Many thanks for the good suggestion. Wouldn't you think
that Microsoft would flag up this problem with Norton in GREAT BIG FLASHING
LIGHTS?

Thanks garfield (etc) for this advice. I am sure I am on the right track now.
I do need the full paths for both regsvr... and avgoff.... in the run
command. But although I have traced both with the find command and checked in
Windows Explorer it is still telling me in Run that some component is missing.

AVG must know all about this so I will ask them for help now.

(Apologies to Naman Patel for hijacking his thread. As a new use I could not
get up the new question screen. Anyway it looks as if between us we have put
Naman on the righ track also. So I feel I have done some good by trespassing)

My guess is that the file is definitely damaged. If you have
Word 2002 or 2003, then make a copy of the file, and try opening
the copy (not the original) with these two methods:
1. Use the "Open and Repair" option in Word (click on File |
Open, click on the little black downward-pointing triangle at the
right end of the Open button, and click on Open and Repair).
2. Use the "Recover text from any file" option in Word (click
on File | Open | Files of type: Recover text from any file). If
this option works, then you will get back some/most/all of the
text, but you will lose all of the formatting. NOTE: The
"Recover Text from Any File" setting is "sticky". You must
immediately select File + Open again, change the "Files of type"
setting back to "Word document" or "All documents" and open
another document, while you remember. If you forget, every file
you open will have no formatting, and if you save a document in
this condition, the formatting is gone forever.
