    - Word 2000 Freeze Up After attempting to cut and paste from the Web my Word 2000 is now not accessable and freezes my system if I try to open it. No Word Documents can be opened.     - Saving Envelope Settings When I wish to print envelopes, I select the "Envelopes & Labels" window and then, "Options", which brings up the "Envelope Options" window. At this point, there are settings for "Delivery and Return Address" marked "From left" and "From top". Is there a way to select certain distances for these settings and then Save them, so the envelope printing comes up with them set to my choices, everytime?     - Serious Word 2003 Problem Here's one for you- I'm completely stumped. I don't know how to fix it. I've got a laptop that is running XP, Office 2003 for students and teachers, Norton Internet Security, and I recently downloaded a free trial of Inspiration software. When I ran Inspiration and tried to import to a word file, an option it claims to be able to do, my problems began. Whenever I click on a Word document, word boots up and gets hung up and says "scanning for virus." It doesn't freeze (the background is blinking). I cannot quit word once this happens and ultimately end up having to manually shut down (hit the power button). I can open word, then open a document. I simply cannot open a word document directly. What have I done to solve it? I originally uninstalled Norton. Then it worked. I tried to reinstall Norton- it didn't work. I uninstalled Word 2003. I reinstalled it. It still didn't work. I uninstalled Inspiration. It still didn't work. Finally, I reinstalled Windows. It worked until I reloaded the updates. Now it doesn't work again.     - Documet name or path is not valid Hi! Hopefully one of you experts can shed som light on this strange problem: I'm editing a word doc in Word 2002. It was originally created by someone else a year ago or so. Everything is saved fine. I can close Word, restart and load the doc allright. However, after a few hours it can't be loaded in Word!! "The document name or path is not valid" I found a kb describing this error in combination with encryption, however I'm not using any encryption.     - Auto insert current date in Leap Year Using Office 98 on iMac OS 9.2.1. Noticed this morning that when typing in today's date if I allow Word to auto insert (as it always tries to do when I start to type a date) it still thinks it's the 1st of March. Excel, in the same Office 98, calculates NOW correctly as March 2nd so it has already adjusted for leap year but Word has not. OS date is correctly set.     - Error Reporting When ever an office product such as Word locks up or there is an error, A message always pops up asking to send the incident to Microsoft. Well every time it does it never completes and just hangs. I'm on line, it stops when the connecting to server check mark comes up. Microsoft will not listen to me, they say it's an OEM problem since it came with my computer but it's really a Microsoft issue. If they want these reports to help the product development and repair they must work, and answer questions about why they do not. C;\WINDOWS\...\Templates\Normal.dot)" Click OK and "Save as" window appears. Click Save, get message "This File is Read Only" Click OK goes back to "Save as" window Click Cancel goes back to Word. Click Close, get message "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save those changes?" Click yes, back to "This file is Read Only" as above. Click No, Word closes. There are no other users, no other app that uses Normal.dot as far as I'm aware, and no changes have been made to the template.     - Front Page Trying to Load Every Time Hi. I hope someone here can help me with the problem I seem to be having. This problem just started a few days ago and Im not sure how to stop it from happening. Im not really getting an error, but everytime I try to open ANY word document, Front Page tries to load.     - Word application closes instantly after a document has closed When I work with Word, I work with several documents that I keep open. I am noticing since I have switched from 2000 to XP, if I close a document that I am working on, Word completely shuts down. I always click on the X below the X of the actual Word application.     - Word lost address book Ok heres the deal. For some reason word stopped working properly when sending a fax. Apparently a data file was erased and now it can not open my address book.     - Preparing to install message appears on Word 2000 startup Starting Word 2000 (SR-1) on Windows XP SP1 as a domain user who is not an administrator. On start up I get the following message... "Preparing to install..." followed by "Please wait while windows configures microsoft office 2000 SR-1 Professional". Word eventually starts after pressing the cancel button. Word has been fully installed on this machine using the administrator account and the option to run all from my computer was selected. The domain user information details have been entered on first startup of Word. This error does not occur when starting Word logged in as the local administrator. As well as occurring when opening Word I also get the same problem when running my VB application that opens Word via automation. I have searched the MSKB and found several related links with possible solutions. I have applied the fixes from PSS ID numbers 265194 and 236592, both with no success (note that 265194 did indeed fix a similar problem when running on Windows 2000 a while ago but did not fix the problem under XP).     - Opening Existing Document My problem is as follows: In opening an existing document by clicking the file's icon on the toolbar, the word application,s title bar then begins to blink and the word application on the task bar also begins to blink. The My Documents folder does not open but the application on the title bar and the task bar just blinks. If the Word application on the task bar is clicked once, the word application then closes but the word application on the task remains and continues to blink with a change in the color to brownish. If the blinking brownish word application on the task bar is again clicked, the word application reopens with the My Documents folder open. In the case of Excel, the opening of an existing document occurs properly. Thus, the problem is limited to Word. Operating System is Windows XP.     - slow word word takes like 20 seconds to start and close. It seems to freeze halfway during the opening of the program. I have tried re-instaling it and left all the extras like the clip art and the help paperclip ext. to be instaled upon use of the aplication. I can't get the word 2002 suport template to work. word works fine on all other users just the one with administrator privliges. is this a driver or another problem i can't pinpoint.     - Word won't Save As Hello I use the Normal.dot template for most simple articles, customised with one heading and body text - all very ordinary and unchanged for months. When I want to rename and SAVE AS and go to drop-down menu FILE >SAVE AS, the only option now (apart from fast save) is SAVE AS WEB PAGE. Previously it was SAVE AS and the default setting in Options was (and remains) save as .doc file. Now the menu box with the 'where do you want to put the file and what type of file do you want to save as' has default 'Web Page (*.htm; *.html) and while it is no big deal to select .doc instead, it is a bit irritating and needs a couple more steps. No recent changes to settings. I have gone to XP Restore point from much earlier than date when the problem came up. Have done defrag, VET, reloaded Word, downloaded latest Office 2000 updates, cleared temp files and cookies. Should I (don't really want to, but. . .) reload Windows XP? any ideas?     - Word 2002 Fault? When importing a database to word using the import database button, the remove fields function does not work in the query dialog with Word 2002.     - File Permission error when saving to a floppy. I am trying to save a mail merged document to a floppy disk drive and it gives me the error message "Word cannot complete save due to a file permission error. This is Word 2000 on a Windows 2000 machine. I can save to the hard drive just fine. I have even switched floppies and it still won't work.     - Macros work in 2000 but not in XP I'm creating a template for use by Word 2000 and XP users. We're using Windows 2000. The problem is that when I open the template with Word 2000, the macros work as expected. However, when I open the very same template with Word XP, the macros do not work. I have the macro Security setting to "medium". When I opened the file, I saw the macros/security alert, and I clicked "Enable Macros". The macros still didn't work.     - reconfigure Word to use a different browser? We're using Word 2000 on Windows 2000. I'm creating a toolbar item that jumps the user to a Web page on our intranet. Netscape appears to be the browser that Word wants to use. I want to test this file with Internet Explorer, but I can't figure out how to configure Word to use it. (I actually didn't even realize that I still had Netscape on my PC, so I uninstalled it. Now when I use that link on my toolbar, I get an error message telling me that I should reinstall Netscape.)     - Cannot start WORD 2000 SR-1 I am running a 1.3 GHz Gateway computer with about 25GB of hard disc available and 256MB of RAM. The operating system is WindowsXP Home Edition. I have been using Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1 with Microsoft Works 6.0 just about daily for many months. Last week, Word refused to load and gave me the following message: "Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. for more information, click here." When I "click here", I get the following message: "ERROR SIGNATURE AppName: winword.EXE AppVer: 9.0.0.3822 ModName: vbe6.dll ModVer: 6.0.87.14 Offset: 000d6d0b To view technical information about error report: click here." When I "click here" this time, I get pages and pages of System information, Exception information and Module information. I have run System Restore several times at several dates. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word and Works from the disc that came with the computer, several times. And I have run the installation repair routine that was also on the installation disc. I have started Word using RUN: winword.exe /a, which runs without templates. I located two normal.dot files and deleted them. I am still getting the same error message and got it at every one of the steps I have described. The same thing happens if I try to open a file that requires Word. When Word tries to open, I get the same message. I cannot think of anything that I did out of the ordinary that might have caused this problem. Any ideas??     - Issues with normal.dot on multiple machines Howdy all, One of our client machines was having a problem where it couldn't open the normal.dot. I renamed the file, opened Word, and at close it said the normal.dot couldn't be created due to a permission error (saving to c drive). Did some more troubleshooting, saw that OSA was consuming a lot of CPU cycles. Did a virus scan and came up clean. Reloaded the OS and the problem is fixed.     - Mouse won't work in XP after creating a document from a template Since our organisation rolled out new machines running Windows XP and Office XP we have had several instances of users opening a new document from a template (which had a user form for some input) and then the mouse will not work. Can still use tab keys, arrow keys. Cannot use mouse in any other document that was open before the creation of this document.     - Office (Word) Standard Edition '03 crash Have A Dell Dimension 4600, CPU = 2.4, Memory = 512 WinxXP Home Edition. All elements of Office work fine, except for Word '03. Every time I attempt to open it, I get a Blue Screen crash with "Page in Non-Paged Area"--no driver conflict is described on the screen. I have faithfully followed the MSFT knowledge articles concerning different ways to attempt to fix this startup problem-- including: Deleting the Word data key in the registry, renaming Normal.dot, looking in all the office start-up folders (nothing in them), deleting the files in the temporary internet folder, starting Word with the /a switch (worked, in that I could at least open Word in Windows). Attempted to start Word in windows safe mode & still got the blue screen crash. The big problem now is that when I attempt to either repair or remove office via the control panel ("add & remove"), I repeatedly get a blue screen crash about two thirds the way through the installation set-up screen in windows. In other words, I cannot repair or remove office via the control panel. Question: 1) Any suggestions on steps I might have missed?
