 - Word hangs on "Save" to network Drive Hello, I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have several differen clients (on different networks) who, when trying to save a wor document to a network drive, word will hang (displaying "no responding") for up to 3 minutes. All three machines are runnin Windows XP, with all of the latest service packs/critical updates) Also loaded, is Office 2000, also with all of the updates/servic packs. After paying $350 to microsoft tech support (along with 15 Hr into this issue), I am still at a stalemate. Just for adde information: 1)I have stopped the "webclient service", as per instructed b Microsoft, on the client machine. 2)The server is running MS Server 2000, with sp4, Norton Corporat Antivirus, and Veritas Backup Exec. 3)This does not happen with all Win XP machines on the network, onl one on each network Any Help would be GREATLY appreciated..  - Disabling error reporting? When Word2002+ crashes, it asks to send something somewhere ... The prospect of sending off whatever data that might be in the document is not something a large law firm wants to do. How can this be disabled? And if MSFT wants bug reports, thye can set up an instance of BugZilla and collect them ... I personally have given up on reporting the bugs because they never seem to get fixed.  - AUTOTEXT FILENAME AND PATH When I try and insert the filename and path under the header/footer tool bar it does not exist. Filename exists, but not Filename and Path. It did at one time, but I did something to screw up the definition of this and now it is not there under "Autotext." After an unistall and reinstall, "Filename and path" are still not an option on the Header/Footer toolbar. However, when I go to "Autotext" and choose Filename and path, it will insert the following: "{Filename\p]. How do I get the actual path and filename back like it was before.  - Selecting text to copy in long document Whenever I try to highlight and copy more than the current page of a document, the highlighter runs to the last page, for example, page 56, when I only want to highlight for copying the first four pages.  - this action is only valid for products already installed When I click on a Word or Powerpoint document icon I get a message that "this action is only valid for products already installed". I can "send" the document to WINWORD and it opens, but not for the doubleclick. I've done the winword /r. Uninstalled and re-installed Office and Word separately. I started with an OEM installed Windows ME with Works 2000. Overlayed Office 2000 Pro (no problems). Overlayed XP Professional Operating System (no problems). Overlayed Office XP Pro (this is when the problem manifested). Uninstalled/Reinstalled XP Pro/Word. Uninstalled XP Pro, installed Office 2000. Problem still existed.  - Copying text from Word to OE mail give IE error??? Hi, I'm using Word 2002, OE6, IE6. When copying text from Word doc and pasting into an OE mail message I get an Internet Explorer alert with the following error message: "Your current security setting prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly." The resulting text in OE looks ok to begin with, but when I save it or send it the text in the outgoing message changes from single spaced to double spaced.  - Adding Autoshapes into a photo document Since August, 2003, I have not been able to insert an Autoshaoe into my photo documents in Office XP for Small business, (2002).  - When doing an Open wierd characters and blank file names Hi, Running Word 97 sr2b. When in Word and doing an "Open as" the filenames are either ????? or sometimes blank even though there is a Word icon by the object. Ran update virus scan, Rebooted, powered down, Emptied out the temps, deleted normal.dot, even re-registered Word. It will only do so in Word and only in Open. If doing a Save as in Word the file names are listed normally. Using Windows explorer is fine. Any ideas on what a fix could be would be appreciated. Thanks.  - Word draws window in wrong location I have a machine that on seemingly random occasions draws maximized Word windows about an inch and a half from the top of the monitor. The real problem is that the bottom of the window is "drawn" off the monitor and so you can sometimes not access the scroll bar as it is off screen. Or if your cursor is to low in the window, you can not see what you are typing / trying to edit. Inevitabley once Word is closed and reopened a few times, it figures out where the top of the monitor really is. This is on a XP machine with Office 2003.  - Repagination problem I had a very long document with a large contents table. I removed all the contents except the 1st heading, then went to the contents and did an update field. This caused a hang. It says 'word is repaginating document' but nothing happens. Escape doesn't work. If I remove the 1st heading then it's ok (it says Error! No table of contents found, which I guess is ok). I also noticed that in another document, if the 1st heading doesn't have a page break before it, then updating the contents also causes a hang.  - Word hangs repeatedly I have MS Office Small Business and on one of my computers, Word hangs every time I try to open, close, or save a shared document on my server. One thing I heard that would help is to add a DWORD value named "cachesize" in the registry under ...Word>Options that is 1024 bytes, and that seemed to help for a while, but after a few days it is still hanging for up to several minutes at a time. A couple other seemingly indentical computers were having the same problem a couple months ago, and once I added the DWORD value, they have worked perfectly. Any suggestions? Thanks.  - Print Dialog Opens Behind Microsoft Word Hi Everyone, I am running into an issue when I select Print from the File menu. The print dialog box opens, but it is behind Microsoft Word. If I minimize Microsoft Word and then restore/maximize it, then the print dialog appears in front of Word like it should. The same problem occurs when I select Save As from the File menu.  - Read -Only word documents I have several users that cannot seem to get any of their word documents to open with out being read only. The files are not used by anyother users. They can only save changes made to the document by using save as. When they open the document they chose to save as they get the same read only error message.  - Fatal Exception All of a sudden I can't open my Word documents. I keep getting the following message: "A fatal exception OE has occurred at 016:BFF9DFFF. The current application will be terminated."  - Formatting When applying any type of format (e.g., bold, underline, bullet, alignment, etc.) to a highlighted item, the formatting which I select is applied to the whole document. When I click on the UNDO option the formatting is removed from all but the highlighted item (i.e., what I want).  - Word hangs - can't re-install Ok, have a bizzare problem I can't figure out. Something seems to have corrupted my word. When I launch it just hangs at the Word Splash screen and never continues. Ok, I figured I could just uninstall and re-install. I have done this a number of times and it all seems to go well, but then when I come back it still launches and hangs.  - Equation editor, Mac OS 10.3.1. and Office X Hi, I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.3.1 and subsequently tried to edit a=20 document created in Word 2001 (Office 2001) in OS 9.2.2 containing=20 equations created in Equation editor (v3.1a8). However, Word X (SR1)=20 comes back and indicates that <Word cannot edit the Microsoft=20 equation>. I checked my Office X folder (in the proper folder in the=20 Applications folder of OS 10) and it contained Equation editor=20 (v.10.0.0). This and other elements of the Value pack were installed by = the Value pack installer included with the CD (upgrade). I checked the=20 crash log, as the application (Equation editor) attempts to launch when = I=20 double click on it, and there is a crash report.  - Word 2000 Closes When Trying to Display Open File Dialog Greetings! Here's an odd one for you. When a few of my users try to open a file in Word 2000 (SP3), the Open File dialog box pops up, but then Word closes with no error message. When they go back in to Word and try to open a file again, it works fine for the rest of the day. The next day, when they boot up again, the same thing happens once, then all is well. For the record, the users don't even get a chance to pick a file from the Open File dialog box, it just flashes and then kicks them to the desktop. Word itself opens fine, it's not until you try to open a file in the network folder that there's a problem. Also, the default folder contains many subfolders (about 200-250), which also include one of more (but not more than 3-4) levels of subfolders and probably a lot of files. Originally, the problem would only happen when they browsed from their old defualt file location (let's call that d:\, a mapped network drive) to the new default file location (i.e., w:\, a different mapped network drive), but I got it to stop on one PC by switching the default file location (from d:\ to w:\). Not so on the other workstations. From this I suspect the problem lies in the folder (w:\), but I'm not having much luck figuring out what's wrong. This doesn't happen on the server when I browse the folder locally and it only happens on some of the network PCs (just about everyone on the network uses these folders). type something in the page, the whole line just turns
black on me. It does this on a new doc also.
Obviously I can see what is being type since the letters
are black also. I tried deleting Word and reinstalling it
and the new version gives me the same problem...Black line
where I try to type.....

Any suggestions?

Hi Charles,

Typically this problem is due to your graphic settings. The most
common cause is that your color depth is set to 16 colors.
