There was an MS auto update on my computer yesterday, and now whenever I try
to save a document using "Save as..." Word crashes. I can save a document
directly into My Documents using "Save" but using "Save as..." and trying to
select a different directory has crashed Word (application not responding)
four times now. This function used to work just fine.

I am using Windows XP Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 and Office
Pro 2003 SP2. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi Kittyo
Check out my reply underneath your posting. It says 'Word shuts down when I
select file'. I replied to this with the same problem you have.

Thanks Lloyd,
I do have that "Share-to-Web" app still on my machine. I'll give it a try.

Thanks Garfield. I appreciate the help. It's just...to have to edit the
registry after an auto update - when my computer was working just fine before
- is maddening. And, IE doesn't work anymore either. And, my default email
setting was changed...AGAIN. Why does every update change my email default?
Very frustrating afternoon. Sorry, I had to vent. I'll dig into the registry
once I settle down. :<

But thank YOU for your help.

FWIW, a New and Improved version of the update will be available Tuesday,
April 25. It will create the need Registry entries to deal with the HP
Scan-to-Web and nVidia driver problems.

Thank you Suzanne. I appreciate the help. But I see it differently. The
Share-to-Web application was working just fine along with my Office
applications until the update. This is an update problem, not an HP or nVidia
problem. This is not a "third party" problem. And that is why MS has to come
up with a fix - almost a week later.

I also found it interesting that I could not get direct MS help on this
problem unless I was willing to fork over some cash. I had to rely upon
helpful volunteers - I am assuming you are a volunteer. Anyway, not a good
day. But you helped make it better.

My understanding, too, is that the HP and nVidia software affected is not
the latest available. I have heard that an updated version of the HP
software is available for download at the HP site.

My guess is the problem is that the share-to-web software was not written to
specifications. MS is not responsible for third-party software and if they
wait to roll out security fixes until they cross check with every
combination of third-party software out there, the security holes will
remain unpatched.
