printer problem after sp3

I have 3 machines on a network, 2 XP and 1 Vista.

XP sp3 was installed on the 2 machines both machines printed no problem
before sp3, now only one will print to my Brother HL 2040 connected to the
Vista machine (Vista machine still prints). Nothing else has been changed
except the addition of sp3. I've checked the usual firewall settings and
printer
settings. All of my other shared files are still accessible.

If I try to add a printer I receive the message "print spooler is not
running".

Any ideas?

Start > Run, type "services.msc"

Find the Print Spooler service and make sure it's running. If not, right
click and say "start."

Give that a try...

Thanks,

I figured out that somehow my print spooler has disappeared, nothing to do
with the sp3 upgrade I'm sure. I guess I'll have to run the xp repair
console.

I only print from this machine on rare occasions anyway.
