copy user settings to default profile

I was wondering if there is a way to modify the default profile so you can
include mapped network drives, wall paper and desktop toolbars etc.

I know how to copy a complete user account, so would I just copy the user I
want over the default user? Obviously I'd make a backup of the Default User
folder first but just wondering if there's another approach.

On a similar note, when I copied a user profile to another the new profile
didn't automatically connect to the network drives. I had to manually type
the password in every time the pc booted up. The main account that I copied
will automatically connect to mapped network.

I'd really like it to remember the username and password I provided as I've
had mix results setting up the network drives from the start on various
users and pcs. I've only been able to setup 2 out of 6 workstations to
automatically login despite me checking the box that says remember and
automatically login as this user etc.

You can do it like so:
- Reboot the machine.
- Log on as Administrator.
- Control Panel / System / Advanced / User Profiles
- Single-click the source profile you wish to copy and click OK.
- Specify this folder as the target folder:
c:\Documents and Settings\Default User
By the way, I don't think you "copied a complete user account".
You probably copied the user's complete profile folder.

You can avoid the retyping of account names / passwords if you
make sure that the machine that hosts the share has an account /
password that matches your current account / password.

These are the same steps I took and it wouldn't connect to the network
drives without me entering the password each reboot.

Regarding your other tip about the same username/password, the mapped drives
on on a samba share.
