installing a sound blaster audigy card to pci slot (I tried more than one
slot) when loading the drivers windows tells me they are not digitally
signed...dxdiag says they are and so do the properties pages..however in
device manager exclamation mark and code 39 error...ie "cannot load the
device driver for this hardware the driver may be corrupted..missing etc." I
also noted that all restore points up to this install are no longer
there....I suspect a registry fix but what? I saw a fix for a similar code
39 problem on some microsoft pages but it was dealing with a cd/dvd player
and involved a registry fix.... any help gratefully received

James, try this Driver. Install it in Safe Mode.

Thanks R B I tried that ...however the problem is not the drivers.....the
drivers I loaded are ok and are digitaly signed but windows says they are
not..I told windows to install anyway...no ...its that the card is ok and the
drivers are ok but I am still getting a code 39.....so it is something to do
with windows not seeing the drivers...because I installed a different card (
{an envy24} which is working on a similar pc) with the same results.....

James, does your Motherboard have a onboard sound chip? If yes, did you
disable it in the Bios?

Thanks again R B for your interest...no it doesn't have an onboard sound
card...(this is not my pc I am repairing it)....I think I may well have to
check that its a legal copy of xp etc and do a reinstall/repair...it bugs me
though that an error code 39 problem is so difficult to track down....because
I want to know what the problem is and fix it...adding to my knowledge and
everyone else on here....I notice the guy who seems to be the resident
microsoft MVP aint' on it but seems to want to castigate people...sorrry for
the moan ....
