Switched on my 2nd PC tonight and got a black dos screen :-
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
C:\windows\system32\config\system

...rather than wade through
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

I've just booted from Norton Ghost cd and am now restoring a Norton Ghost
*.v2i full hd backup taken 13-08-2008, from 2nd hd (in same the machine),
and its' now 58% into "Copying volume data over existing volume"

This PC has been as solid as a rock for many weeks, ...nay ...several months
!

Any ideas as to what could have knocked it for six ?
I replaced the D-sub monitor lead with a DVI-D lead before I switched it on,
...can't believe that this blew up the registry !!!!

...have been trying to think what I could have done to it, the last time I
used it but, I'm sure I didn't do anything nasty or stupid.

I think a Windows update went in during my last session with it but, that
seemed fine.

regards, richard
