The OS is XP Pro. There are two user accounts: me and she.

The problem: when she tries to access a picture that was just sent to "my
pictures" or one on her desk top the following message pops up.

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the
system hangs. Process explorer shows that "my pictures is not responding.

Looking at the details has:
AppName explorer.exe
ModVer 5.1.2600.3119
AppVer 6.0.2900.3156
Offset 0012a5b
ModName kernel32.dll

But if I log on to my account and go to "my computer" and approach the same
file via "docs & settings" and onward to her "my pictures folder", then the
jpg picture file opens with no difficulty at all.

What is going on here?

Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr.msc in the Open box, and then
press Enter.
Click the Application category.
