Unable to uninstall Office after SP3

On a brand new Toshiba laptop, I installed SP3. I tried uninstalling the
trial Office copy and it refused. I reimaged the drive and successfully
uninstalled Office. I didn't install SP3 again.

Its probably the same reason that Microsoft tells you to uninstall IE7
before installing Sp3, then reinstall it after its loaded. If you don't
you'll never be able to uninstall IE7.
Once you load SP3 then that kinda becomes the furthest point back in
time you can delete files. Same then goes for your office maybe.
Once Sp3 was loaded office can't be removed.

What you mean is that the only way to remove IE7 would be to remove SP3
first and then remove IE7.

If that goes for MSO 2007, I think some users are going to be pretty
upset having to uninstall SP3 before removing 2007 and going back to 2003.

I'll rephrase. If you have IE7 installed, and load SP3, you can't
uninstall IE7. Its a documented item in the writeup.
So, if you load SP3 and wanted to uninstall IE7, you have to uninstall
SP3, then uninstall IE7, then reapply SP3 back. I don't write these
procedures, I just relay them.

You'll still have to rephrase to not be confusing, because your
statements contradict each other (even though my clarification above of
your statement said basically the same).

Because first you say "...you */can't/* uninstall IE7." Then you say,
"...and wanted to uninstall IE7, you have to..."

No biggie, just making it clear for 2nd language users.

It's clear to me, Terry. Big Al is saying that if you want to uninstall
IE7, you must first uninstall SP3. Otherwise, uninstalling IE7 can't be
done.

What it comes down to is that IE7 must installed after SP3 if you expect to
be able to uninstall IE7 later.

What's probably ?not? clear to most readers here is ?why? one would want to
uninstall IE7.
For instance, if IE7 (files) became corrupt, and IE7 *had* to be reinstalled
in order to run properly. [Then it would have to be /uninstalled/ , first.]

Not so. That's the confusion for some. That's the easiest method of
course. You CAN uninstall IE7 AFTER SP3, by uninstalling SP3 and THEN
uninstalling IE7. A pain for sure. But it can be done. Why one would
do that I don't know, but the option is there.

My point is, if you install IE7 or IE8 AFTER SP3 you can uninstall IE
anytime you want without having to uninstall SP3 at all.

In the context of the discussion I intended it to mean that if the user
expects to uninstall IEx at some future point, IEx should not be installed
when the service pack is installed, but afterwards, so that the IEx
uninstallation data is sufficient to permit a rollback.

And again I understand. But in this "context", we also need to make
sure that anyone reading this understands that regardless if SP3 is
installed, it isn't impossible to remove IE7 after installing SP3. Sure
it isn't easy, nor ideal, but it is still possible.
