When I go to windows explorer and left click on any drive letter "so that it
becomes hilighted" and then left click on "File" or "Edit" from the context
menu the computer freeze's. I then Ctrl-Alt-Del to end windows explorer and
I'm back at the desktop. The computer is no longer froze and works fine. If I

a new folder. This does not happen if I left click or right click on a
folder, Only drives, such as c:, d: I reloaded windows XP Pro using the
repair option and It did not do ithis until I installed SP2 and all the
microsoft updates, at least it apears that way. I have Autocad 2007 installed
on this computer and need to install the 2008 upgrade but would like to

Often times it has to do with what else is added to the context menu -
meaning third party.

Having Spysweeper installed can cause this. Either way, see:

Also: can be due to updates 817287 and/or 821557

Check your settings here: Most users who face this issue can still right
click the Start button, even though they can't right click on the Start
Menu. Here is the workaround:

Right click the Start button, select Properties, Customize. Scroll through
the options on the Advanced tab and put the check mark back in Enable
dragging and dropping.

If your right clicking abilities are more complexed, run this edit.

Enable or Disable the Right Click Context Menu (Line 56)
