I am currently running Windows XP MCE. I created a backup and put it onto an
external HDD. From there I copied the .bkf file to another drive and luckily
I did because the other drive crashed. However now when I go to restore the
.bkf it says "Unexpected end of backup set in filename.bkf created on
5/6/2008 at 10:36AM." What can be causing this error?

Bad backup.
Its not unusual that a backup program creates a file but the file is
corrupt. It used to happen with tapes a heck of a lot.
And if the external crashed, it might have been on the way out while you
were doing the backup.

Most backup programs have a compare or validate backup option to test
the backup files. Also most procedures for backup suggest several
copies of backups and of course an occasional test of your backup
software.
