    - Startup problem after installing KB943729 on XP Pro I ran MS Upgrade search & installed upgrade KB943729. Afterwards when I tried to restart the PC it gave me the option to go to SETUP or run setup through the network. It would not allow me to pick either <F2/del> or F8. Even when I tried to run XP in SAFE mode, it would get to select the operating system screen and wouldnâ??t allow me to hit enter. After a few time of restarting the PC, I was able to get XP up and running. The first time I did a restore back a few days from install & that didnâ??t help. The second time I backed out the upgrade through the control panel as the upgrade document recommended. Do you think that I might be able to restart my PC, after this weekend, without a problem.     - what is cnpacnp.dll??? I am working on a machine (XP home SP2) that has two references to cnpacnp.dll. One is a BHO and the orher is a Winlogon entry. The properties on this dll say that it comes from Microsoft, but not what it is like most ms stuff does. This machine had many viruses and spyware that I am trying to get rid of.     - Page Not Found on a closed private network In our facility, we have two networks. One is the general network that all of the office systems are on as is the connection to the internet. The other network is a 192.xx closed network that can not see the main network and visa-versa. One machine (IBM i5) is on both networks and is running a full webserver. We have three PCs that are on the private network that have home pages pointing to the i5's webserver. All three machines are configured to startup IE when they start and load their specific webpages from the i5. All three display "PAGE NOT FOUND" even though the i5 webservers are online. Pressing F5, the screens do load. To say the least, this is causing problems. The three PCs are physically located in the computer room and use AVOCENT media streamers attached to their video cards to display information through out the facility. Any idea how to force these machines to load the web pages at the start up? On the old COMPAQs that used to run these services, we never had an issue.     - User screen on booting I've just installed MCE 2005. I am sole user and therefore (it would seem) the Administrator. When boot I get a welcome screen with a square colored graphic with my name beside it. It states: "to begin click your user name" I want rid of this screen so that I can boot straight into Windows.     - Outlook Express I have Windows XP and Exporer 7. Two days ago when I tried to open Outlook Express,I get a message box saying Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close. I do not know what kind of problem has happened. I had a live chat with a HP tech,and he told me to uninstall Explorer 7 and reinstall 6. I do not know if this is my correct and best solution.     - Sound very low...but volume at max I have a Windows XP SP2 system, fully patched. One day I noticed that the sound is very low. I can hear music in Itunes and Windows media player, but it is muted. The Windows Narrator is too faint to hear. None of the volume settings are muted in Windows, and all of the volume sliders are at their highest settings. A motherboard replacement did not resolve the issue. Also, I have tried different speakers and none of them make a difference. I have tried the speakers on other systems and they work fine. Any ideas? It is clearly a software issue, but I can't locate the source of the problem.     - cannot enter hard drive from new hard drive installation? I have windows xp pro. Three days ago my sons friend was on my pc with his moblie phone and disconected the phone just by pulling it out and not by the windows way. anyway to cut a long story short my computer would not work . I tried everything but nothing. in the end I bought a new motherboard? and installed eveything back as normal. This is where the problem is.     - Error message: Windows cannot find file <name of file> I keep getting this message when I open an Access file using a shortcut on the desktop. The file is actually there - I just get the message, and then click ok but eh fiule is actually found and it opens. I do not get the message if I use Windows Explorer, navigate to the file and then open it.     - Backup help needed Help! I have created a backup schedule for my PC to back up the documents and settings folder to a network drive. The problem is that each night it adds a new folder to the ever increasing backup. Now, after a week, the backup when opened has 6 copies of C\docs\data and its blown out to over 2 gb I set it up using the wizard and append option and scheduled it to backup each day.     - Fonts disappear from Office apps after reboot but remain in OS?? So - I'm at my wits end - any suggestions would be appreciated!! On an XP SP2 machine with Office 2003 SP2 we install a true-type font and it works just fine. We can see it in Fonts folder as well as use it in Office products. We logoff/login - same thing - works fine. We restart system - this font is no longer available in Office products but are still visible in Fonts folder. This happens with many fonts that we install - so it's not font specific. We've rebuilt the device twice and the problem reoccurs for this pocket of users. We've had them login to test machines and it works fine (ruling out ID related issue). I've logged into his machine and had the issue (generating a new local profile). So - we think we've narrowed it down to their physical devices with a physical reboot. From reading another thread re: fonts, I did confirm the registry of the device does have the Fonts key and does contain all the fonts. This problem is specific to the applications (Adobe and Office) not being able to see/use the fonts after a reboot. Has anyone come across something like this?     - Boot to BIOS This may be the wrong group to address this issue, but I have a family member who has requested help--his computer is in a semi-paralyzed state. He has a Dell Dimension E521 with Phoenix Award BIOS. The problem is that he cannot enter anything from the keyboard. I suggested a first attempt at a repair reinstall from his Windows XP installation disk. He needs to set the boot sequence to boot from his CD/DVD drive so he can boot from the installation disk. He says he cannot get the computer to enter the BIOS System Setup from boot. He has tried pressing F2 before the Dell splash screen, which should be the correct key to press to interrupt the normal Windows boot process. Any other suggestions as to how to get the computer into the System Setup or a more relevant group to address this issue?     - can't set .jpg MetaData over network I have two WinXP-pro SR/2 machines connected by hardwired Ethernet. A scanner is connected to one; a hard drive to hold files is connected to the other. Directory on hard drive is marked for simple file sharing and authorizing other network users to change files. Files created by the scanner can be saved to hard drive without problem. Once saved, they can be renamed without problem. However... MetaData on .jpg files cannot be edited / added from first machine with the scanner, although once metadata is added to the .jpg files via the second machine containing the hard drive, the metadata can be displayed on the first machine with the scanner.     - searching old Microsoft word files for text string Every once in a while I need to retrieve information that I know exists somewhere on the hard drive of my machine in an old Microsoft Word2.0 file.     - Can't Install Installer Cleanup I've got an application that isn't starting up. The help forums for that App say to uninstall using MS Installer Cleanup utility. I downloaded the MS Installer Cleanup utility, and I now have a file named, "msicuu2.exe" on my PC. When I double-click the file, it starts to install the utility, I'm asked to accept the license agreement, which I do, then I get a dialog box stating, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". It is looking for a file named, "msicuu.msi". When I click "cancel" (because I don't know where that file might be), I get an error dialog stating, "Error 1714. The older version of Windows Installer Clean Up cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group". This is my home PC, and I am the technical support group for it. ;( Hoping that someone can tell me how to get to the point where I can install and run the Cleanup utility.     - Windows System Restore, Am I missing something? It was my impression that Windows sets a checkpoint for the System Restore daily. I'm trying to write a script to automate Outlook 2003 configuration,
and I'm getting tripped up in one spot. "Always check spelling before
sending" needs to be turned on, but for the life of me, I can't find
the registry key that controls that. Any ideas? Thanks.
