Hello

I am trying to use Windows XP Repair as I can't see any System Information
when I type in msconfig32.exe in Run.

When I install the CD it asks me to boot from the CD and I say yes. Then it
asks if I want to repair Windows using Recovery Console so I say yes (though
I am not sure I have ever been able to retrieve System Information).

Anyway, then it asks me for an administrator password. As I am the computer
administrator (this is a stand-alone PC using Win XP Home), I type in my
normal password - which it does not like.

Can I ask what is the problem here?

Thanks.

Steve

You as a User have given yourself admin privileges which is not the same as
the default admin account.
If you have not placed a password on that default admin acct....then just
"tab" thru it and it should work.

Fix For Correct Password Not Accepted Bug

There is a bug in WinXP which prevents you from using Recovery Console
even though the right password is typed when prompted....
So, here's the trick.
2. Enable Administrator to Log On Automatically in Recovery Console
3. Reboot into WinXP.
4. Select Start | Run, then type regedit Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup
\RecoveryConsole Change the SecurityLevel DWORD value data to 1.
5. Reboot the PC

Good Luck

Hello

Many thanks for both replies.

I'll try both ideas and post back.

Thanks again.
