Is there any limit to the number of files that can be accumulated in
the Recent folder?

What are the files in the Recent folder used for?

Start -> My Recent Documents

And through setup of task bar by one method or another (meaning tweakui
/ registry edits or other utilities), this top 10 list can be adjusted
in size.

Yes, and it can be changed/adjusted.

If you have to ask, you probably don't need it.

It is used in those programs where the option to "open most recent" is
used.

Thanks for your replies. But, I'm not talking about the 15 Recent
Files displayed in the Start Menu (which I don't use). I'm talking
about the 150 or so files that have accumulated in the Recent
Folder.

Is there a default limit on the quantity of files that can accumulate
in the Recent Folder and if so, what is the default limit?

If you mean Mt recent documents folder in XP, thet are just shortcuts to
files you accessed recently. Their only purpose is to allow you to retrieve
those filesquickly, if not needed you can clear that folder.

I don't particularly want to clear the Recent folder and have to keep
clearing it periodically. I merely want to know if there's a default
limit to its growth and what that limit is.

I believe that folder contains ONLY shortcuts... right? 1K files.

What's the problem?

You're right, and I don't think the 150 or so files in the Recent
folder is going to be a problem. But I just wondered whether there
was any limit to its potential number of files.

Anyway, thanks for asking about it.

You could use this registry tweak to disable it altogether:

That doesn't really answer the question. Is there a limit and if so where is
it? I followed a couple of links through the pc tools link. One page shows
a registry location to change the number of recent documents, but I don't
find the corresponding registry key in my xp pro.

Not in the "recent folder", only the "displayed listing"
