Hello...

How can I set up a program (in this case, Microsoft Outlook) to open
automatically at startup; & have it minimized to the System Tray only? (as
opposed to minimized on the Start Bar).

Thanks,

mark4man

If you really must, add a shortcut to the startup folder

The application would have to include such functionality. MS Outlook does
not.

In Outlook 2003, R-click the Notification area (correct name for
"systray") Outlook Icon, Select "Hide when minimized". Now Create a
desktop shortcut to "Outlook.exe" file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11. Set the Shortcut properties to Run Minimized. Enjoy.

Right click the "Start" button on the task bar.

Click "Explore" on the resulting context menu if you want your
application to start only on your log in account. Click "Explore All" to
start the application with all accounts.

Click "+" box next to the highlighted "Start Menu" folder in left pane
of the Windows Explorer window to expand it. Do the same with the
"Programs" folder revealed when you expanded "Start Menu".

Drag your application's shortcut to the "Startup" folder (right drag if
you want to copy the shortcut).

OK...

I added an Outlook shortcut copy to my Startup folder...per Robert...so far,
so good. Then I followed Bob's two steps & successfully minimized the
program when running.

Then I rebooted; & the program starts up at reboot OK...but it starts in
'full' mode (i.e., the programs opens up completely, to a full interface).
Shouldn't it actually start up & minimize instantaneously?

Thanks,

mark4man

You're welcome. If the shortcut's still on the desktop. You can drag and
drop to Startup by drag and hold over the Start button, "wait", drag to
Programs, "wait" drag to Startup, and drop inside it.

No, you have to create the Shortcut the way that I described. Copying
the one the Office installs is a special one, and won't start minimized.

Yes...that's the one that works...thanks.

[It is also the same Startup folder found under 'owner name' in Documents &
Settings...which is the same Startup folder accessed by right-clicking the
start button & selecting 'Explore'.]

Thanks again,

mark4man
