Multiple Windows Installer (msiexec.exe)

I always seem to have two copies of msiexec.exe in memory and because of this
cannot install ANYTHING onto my computer.

Is there a way to determine exactly what the copies of msiexec.exe in memory
are trying to install, that way maybe I can un/re install that product

I've tried the "Windows Install Clean Up" utility but don not see how this
can help as I do not know which product to clean?

I think this problem is the reason why my page file is always at arung 90%
full even when I am not running anything.

What is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean,
what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Do you have two copies of it when you are trying to install something, or always
(even when you reboot and don?t try to install something)? If you have it when
you try to install something, then that is normal. I?ve seen plenty of
installations run two or more copies. If you have it even right after a reboot,
then a previous installation which has not completed is trying to finish
installing. Do you ever get a Windows Installer dialog asking you for a source
disk?

It's a bit too must work to try right now, but I'll have a crack at it this
weekend if none of the other solutions work.

There are always two copies of misexec.exe in memory and sometimes (but not
always) when I try tio install something a will get a Microsoft Office (2000
I think) installation/cd request dialog box.

I?m guessing that you occasionally get that dialog even when you?re not
installing something. You said that you don?t know which item to use in the
clean-up tool, well that Office is the one complaining is a clue. ;) Of course
it is best if you could just find it the files it needs. That way, it can finish
whatever it is trying to do and stop interrupting your installations.

Next time you see the Office installer dialog, click Browse and take a look at
what file it is looking for (probably an MSI or CAB file). See if you can find
it on your hard drive or the Office disc.
